Isaiah Livers appreciation thread
So some people are griping about Livers and his production lately. I couldn't disagree more. While he is not exactly lighting it up right now, He has settled down from earlier this season. He is letting the game come to him, and has not taken a bad shot that I can recall in the last 3 games. He is playing really good defense, and his decision making has been great. He has been playing tremendously unselfish basketball, and the team is benefitting big time!

Not to threadjack, but any update on Williams since he didn't play at all? Couldn't bear to listen to the announcers so I have no info on why he didn't play even though he was dressed

Turry was in uniform, and was jumping around like a mad man on the bench, so appears to be a healthy scratch.
December 31st, 2020 at 11:18 PM ^
Strange, isn't it? I figured he'd at least get garbage time considering it was a homecoming game for him too
Especially strange since it looked like he had passed Johns altogether
December 31st, 2020 at 11:23 PM ^
Yeah, I agree with you. I thought we'd see him in the first half when Maryland made their run. Hard to say, but like I said, from watching him on the bench, he certainly did not appear to be injured!

you guys must not know shit about basketball.
January 1st, 2021 at 8:22 AM ^
Go on... I mean, we don't know shit about basketball, so tell us what's going on that we're missing.

Livers is the unquestioned leader of this team.
Absolutely love the way hes playing and am not mad at all that the shots aren't falling. That will come.
This team is stacked and is going to be a nightmare to prepare for come tournament time
Go Blue

Livers time will come... Loaded with talented guys that will pick each other up. This team is looking pretty good although we haven’t played any of the heavy hitters yet.
January 1st, 2021 at 10:23 AM ^
This team just has so many options that can score in bunches and carry you. Like last night, Livers was off but others stepped up.

Nephew (Navy officer) went to high school with Livers and said he was a super nice kid. Good enough for me.
January 1st, 2021 at 1:46 AM ^
Wow, the Navy was really relevant there.
January 1st, 2021 at 2:05 AM ^
Kid had the govt come to my brothers house and interview the entire family, do background checks on everyone, etc. He’s smart as fuck and has a national security level (as a 22 year old) that would make some long time CIA guys jealous. Graduated with a BS in 3 years, without taking college credits in high school.
so yea ..... super fucking relevant .... cuz I’m super fucking proud. And he balled with Livers.
January 1st, 2021 at 3:20 AM ^
is this a review of Livers or the kid you love by blood/family? you must not know how shit works.
January 1st, 2021 at 8:27 AM ^
Geez--this is your second "you must not know shit" comment in the thread. C'mon--it's New Year's! How about a little civility for your fellow Michigan fans?
January 1st, 2021 at 9:52 AM ^
Are you quite alright? Is there something you want to say to the group?
January 1st, 2021 at 10:38 AM ^
Yeah, check his posting history. He needs either a banning for general assholery or a SSRI prescription and a hug.
January 1st, 2021 at 5:06 AM ^
Ah gotcha, then Livers must be a super nice guy.
December 31st, 2020 at 11:30 PM ^
Livers started in a National Championship game. Then went to the bench when Iggy came and was a great 6th man. Then he under most circumstances would have been “the man” as a junior but happened to be playing with Simpson and Teske. Now, when he’s a expected to be “the man” he’s played team ball throughout the way.
He is what MAAR was to this program. The ultimate teammate, player, and program guy. It’s players like Isaiah Livers that win teams championships and build programs.
December 31st, 2020 at 11:35 PM ^
Well said, and I totally agree. One thing I can't stand are players who have to "get theirs" in every game. I was worried at the beginning of the year that Isaiah was going to play like that this season. He has proven he's not one of those guys! That's leading by example!
December 31st, 2020 at 11:35 PM ^
Agreed, he didn't try to force anything...great team leader
December 31st, 2020 at 11:45 PM ^
Livers is the best kind of captain on the best kind of team - one that only cares about winning. Enjoy it. Go Blue
December 31st, 2020 at 11:47 PM ^
There's no doubt in my mind that Livers will shine offensively sooner rather than later; in the meantime he still is doing a lot of the little things on both ends of the court and giving good leadership.
December 31st, 2020 at 11:52 PM ^
I think the fact that we know Livers is damn good and is able to take somewhat of a backseat this year shows the quality of this team.
January 1st, 2021 at 12:18 AM ^
I still held my breath during the first few min of the game when he drove to the basket and took a hard fall. Too many injuries like that in his career.
January 1st, 2021 at 12:27 AM ^
Tough, kid, total team player. I’m with you. Hopefully our guys can avoid injuries but it seems like they can absorb the hit this year with the depth if the unfortunate does happen. Fingers crossed.
January 1st, 2021 at 12:20 AM ^
Well said - hear, hear! His leadership and willingness to play winning basketball for the sake of the team is commendable! Players like Isaiah make good teams great teams. This team truly has been a highlight of 2020. Perhaps their best play is still yet to come, too!
Thanks Isaiah for your outstanding leadership and teamwork!
January 1st, 2021 at 12:36 AM ^
He does EVERYTHING, for this team.
January 1st, 2021 at 12:44 AM ^
Livers is top notch. Glad Poole and Watson left so he could blossom and be the leader.
January 1st, 2021 at 3:36 AM ^
Watson?
January 1st, 2021 at 5:09 AM ^
Don't even ask. It's elementary.
January 1st, 2021 at 3:36 AM ^
Watson?
January 1st, 2021 at 7:39 AM ^
Ibi turned out to be a pretty good college player.
January 1st, 2021 at 1:18 AM ^
I think we need to treat him like Duncan Robinson and make sure he’s getting up 5+ 3pa attempts a night.
January 1st, 2021 at 8:29 AM ^
Could say the same with several players on this team. But yeah, his shot will give you a toothache if you watch it too much. Sweet like a candy cane...
January 1st, 2021 at 1:59 AM ^
I will add Franz Wagner to this appreciation thread. And Hunter Dickinson...nothing more needs to be said about him. Absolute ballers...all of them.
January 1st, 2021 at 3:16 AM ^
that said, we still need him to hit 12 points per game to be effective. so i like your spirit, but he needs more production. he was ASS tonight. luckily this team hits double digit guys 5 times a night. He has been slow and lazy lately. Don't sugarcoat it. He will find his groove, but he could have played for MD tonight and we still win by 10+
He needs to ghost the team less frequently if we are going to be anything more than "just above average"
January 1st, 2021 at 11:05 AM ^
So you realize that Livers played on a tweaked ankle all evening (see post below)? So shove your "he was ASS tonight" take deeply within your own bowels and try to enjoy a fantastic win on the road against a team that just picked off Wisconsin in Madison.
January 1st, 2021 at 3:17 AM ^
Mrs. Livers, is that you?
January 1st, 2021 at 6:00 AM ^
Livers didn't play much after hitting the floor hard last night. Hope he's ok.
January 1st, 2021 at 9:51 AM ^
January 1st, 2021 at 7:58 AM ^
I appreciate Livers role on the team but think the best thing Livers can do to both help the team and help his slim chances at an NBA career is to follow Duncan’s lead in learning to take and hit that 3 point shot on the move. Right now Livers is strictly a wide open shooter....and tends to disappear on offense against teams with athletic wings.
January 1st, 2021 at 9:04 AM ^
In articles today, Howard explains Livers turned his ankle on a drive in the first half and they didn't think he could go in the second half, but he pushed through.
January 1st, 2021 at 11:02 AM ^
I think this happened fairly early in the game when Coach Howard took an early timeout. Livers was strangely removed from the game at like the 16 minute mark. At the time, it was a strange TO and substitution. It now makes complete sense if Livers needed to be checked out by the medical staff.
January 1st, 2021 at 10:57 AM ^
Livers offensive numbers are normal but he’s improved his rebounds and assists totals. With Hunter, Coach was able to implement his “Inside Out” offense, there will be adjustment periods for everyone. So happy Wagner and Livers are back!!
