Impatience/incomplete info on coaching search
I think everyone ought to step back and refrain from deciding that the AD is stupid, terrible, a liar and the worst guy ever given that we know nothing except twittered scraps of rumors from anonymous sources about what went on.
It's not apologism, it's just not making conclusions you don't have the information to make. We're not having a casual conversation in a bar here; we're on a public forum that's actually become fairly prominent. Let's be responsible about it.

The blame for the fanbase reaction falls squarely on Brandon's shoulders. If people are upset at the reactions, then they should realize that it could have been mitigated by information. Without any word from the top, the fans were left with no option but to follow flights paths, gobble up all misinformation, etc. Instead of pointing the finger at the victims, people need to point the finger at the person who failed to prevent it.

I just don't think he has an obligation to discuss sensitive conversations as he's having them.

I never said Brandon had an obligation to inform the public. I simply stated that people cannot be surprised at negative reactions or media frenzy over the search. The easiest way to control reactions is to feed the public bits of information to make them feel like they at least have an idea of what is going on. I'm okay with having been "fooled" but people should also be okay with the frustration of those of us at being left in the dark.
All that said, I was impressed with Brandon today, especially his closing statement. He earned a lot of "brownie points" with me today, if only because I'm ready to stop caring about the search process and move on to focusing on recruiting results.

for earning your brownie points. I can just see him saying to his wife at dinner tonight, "profitgoblue likes me! He REALLY likes me!"

I don't kid myself into thinking that he cares what I think, but it would definitely behoove him to care what the fanbase in general thinks, including minority opinions. Coaches may not need to care, but AD's definitely should. Especially when minority members like myself have money just waiting to be donated.

Has it ever occurred to you that Dave Brandon doesn't give a shit about "the fanbase reaction" or mitigating it when it comes to a coaching search? And, wait did you actually use the word "victim" in reference to a few hundred half-cocked jackasses flinging bullshit around the interwebs over these last few weeks?

So we aren't allowed to have any opinions on our athletic director's performance? Guess I need to adjust my signature....

I'm so pissed off right now I cant even put it into words. I truly think that if we had handed the decision making process to a committee of Dantonio, Tressel and Charlie Wiess we couldnt have gotten a worse coach and one more ill-equiped to lead us back to national relevance.

But you asked for it. How about Gene fucking Chizik at Auburn 2 years ago. 5-19 at Iowa state. That seems to have worked out.

Didn't DB say that Hoke was always his first choice and that no one else was offered?
I happen to believe that that's one of those polite lies you tell people in order to avoid embarrassment and hurt feelings, but that might be why people suggest that DB didn't "consider other national candidates."
