If speight gets complacent, continues to not play well in fall practices/scrimmages and Peter's takes the next step from spring to fall it's possible that he takes over the spot. Let's also not forget that right after the spring game last year, speight and okorn were basically tied on who would start, speight then took controll with what ever he did to prepare him self for fall and won the gig. He didn't play well versus tough competition, or decent competition on the road ( see Iowa ) injury or not, that game wasn't going to end well. Harbaugh isn't sacred to do these things, just look at the Smith, Kaepernick decision.

It will be interesting to see what year 2 under Brown will look like. We lose a bunch of players that had one year in Brown's system and replace them with a bunch of players with two years of experience. We have a slight drop in talent and depth but can we make up for it by mastering Brown's system? I think the answer we will find is yes.

The only one that stands out to me as a clear improvement is Bush over Gedeon. Gary is great, but is he more athletic than Charlton, a potential first round pick? Kinnel more athletic than Hill? Long over Lewis? We had a historically great defense last year, it's going to be tough to find upgrades in athleticism. You could be right, but the young guys have to show a lot more to definitely say that.

Winovich is not more athletic than Charlton, a guy who likely is going to be a first round pick. Winovich is good, maybe he will get drafted, but he's not a freak athlete like Charlton. I hope you're right, but I'm not seeing it.

Winovich will be good, but surely a downgrade from Charlton. Gary may be an upgrade over Wormley. Hurst will be an upgrade over Godin. My concern is the health of Mone. LBs will be fine, then again concerned about the health of Long and Hill. First string if healthy will be great. The concern is depth. But Charlton was the man last year. He will be missed.

We're talking athleticism, not talent. Taco ran a 4.9 at the combine. I think Winovich is quicker and faster than Taco. I'd imagine Taco is stronger...

I'd be curious to know how Chase tests on things like agility, strength, and power.  Keep in mind that Taco is 6'6" 277 lbs and Chase is 6'3" 245.  Being scouted by the NFL Taco was recognized as having really good reaction time off the snap.  He also has good hands and length.  He also has the ability to cover ground laterally quickly.  Taco has generally been known as a talented, but raw player, that needs to get tougher and more consistent.  He was ranked as the #4 DE at the Combine.  Winovich kind of gives the opposite impression that he's a really high motor guy who's not afraid to get nasty, but probably has a lower cieling. Chase definately lacks the size.  Looking at the two I'd call Taco the more athletic player, but athleticism can be viewed in lots of different ways.

Is a coaching Dude.  Even with a ton of young guys on Defense this year, there's a LOT of talent including some All B1G studs.  Don Brown has done a lot more with a lot less.  The defense should be special again this year.  Gary will be a terror.  D Bush will emerge and the D Backs will be solid, top 2 or 3 units in the conference.

at several spots for Brown if not overall better players. Bush > Gedeon. Hurst > Godin. CBs > Stribling, Metellus > Hill. Gary > Wormley. McCray II > McCray I. Can Mone = Glasgow? Kinnel = Thomas? Hudson = JP? Probably a step back, but the 2nd teamers look fast and aggressive so the D might be just as productive.
