Dior Mathis says two new schools has emerged as his leader.
It seems that Mr. Mathis likes Oregon a bunch and is developing a crush on our little brother. At least, that is what I've heard. Maybe Other Brian or TomVH can correct me if I am wrong.
Here is my thing, I think that we should recruit instate. I really do. I love seeing the home grown playing in the big house. But I must admit, I am growing a little weary of this kid. It is like he thinks he is the Otter version 2.
best players period, regardless of which state they are from. Period.
We should always go for the best players but we should definitely try to rack up all the best in-state talent possible. It's one thing to lose out to State on a top prospect and a whole 'nother to lose out to a Tennessee or Florida State, or even, ugh, tOSU.
But doesn't it seem like there should be some type of allegience to the in state schools? It seems that they should have the inside track. This kid, I think, was a Miami fan. Something has to be taken into account that some of these kids playing within the borders of Michigan are not fans of the in state programs. So how can we really consider that a loss when there was no love in the first place?
If they live far away, football players at a program like Michigan's get to go home for maybe month a year. In that way they are not like regular college students and the strain of leaving everything they know is hard for many of those who do.
The relative ease of recruiting in state is far more a consequence of these factors than who kids are fans of.
isn't that the point.
I'd define a national power as being able to beat anyone, any day. Granted, with that comes a larger recruiting base but first comes results on the field. I believe that little things like being dominant locally does do good things for our program, like building a solid foundation, gain support from the local HS coaches, and attract more fair weather fans who would grow back and forth between us and State.
Anyway, it just seems as if us fans (Mich) say that in-state recruiting doesn't matter and really it's just a bad excuse for why we aren't doing better. And this isn't a 'bashing RR' post like akin to why Barking Sphinkter might write. I've always supported him and always will.
Would have some to think that. I don't think Michigan has completely fell off the national stage. But compared to sparty...Michigan a national power.
it must be true, right?
well if we're talking recruiting like Dane is, than yeah, when was the last time State was able to recruit from the West Coast, East Coast, South, and the Midwest... all in one class?
from all over country, except the west coast though. http://michiganstate.rivals.com/croster.asp
I wouldn't say they are a local program, but if that is how you feel.
7 players from outside the midwest and easily 70% of players are from state of Michigan. I would easily say is a much bigger national power than little brother.
recognized by recruits/people nationally, more so than MSU. I am just stating that MSU is not only known "locally."
gets its share of out of state recruits too...jus' saying
MSU is in the same conference as Michigan and plays on a national television, quite often. I believe they played on New Year's Day this year.
So Michigan 33 straight bowl game streak was broken. I'm sure sparty has done the same...right?
I agreed with you tUniversity of Michigan has more of national presence than MSU. My point is that MSU has a pretty good national presence though. Most of the credit goes to the basketball program.
The football presence is very small nationwide. You have to differentiate between the two.
I will listen to this argument the day MSU pulls a highly regarded out of state recruit that Michigan and other powerhouses were pursuing. I can't stand his posts and until I see that I won't even begin to try.
My uncle is from LA (has never been to Mich) and is not a huge college football fanatic. Talking to him earlier I asked him to name the mascots for the Michigan colleges. he go the wolverines, got the chippewas and guessed the broncos. I asked him What was Michigan States and he finally got on the third quess.(first guess Warriors, second guess was the titans) how is that for lack of national recognition MSU.
300 post just saw it fitting to reply to your post
Edit: reasons why he got CMU and WMU: I went to CMU and my sister currently goes to WMU.
That's it. We are undone. mblood7's uncle doesn't recognize Michigan State football. Goodbye Big Ten Championship aspirations.
When was the last time State won the Big 10 Championship? Everyone has aspirations. Even Indiana.
Better question would be when was the last time MSU won the Big Ten without performance enhancers?
I know th MSU name expands into Ohio, Penn, and Ill. I would like to see a chart on the 50 states and how many have Michigan pulled recruits from? and what states we haven't been able to/had no interest in recruiting? My guess Is we have pulled recruits from 35 different states.
Question did you spell spartan wrong on purpose?
again. I was trying to alter my screen name, because the name I wanted was previously taken. When doing so, the "y" was deleted.
Don't get defensive all I was asking if it was on purpose! so you tried spartyn19962001? OK
I am not being defensive, actually I wanted it to read Spartyon19962001.
Seriously, If I was you I would keep the Flak vest strapped on real tight being a fan of Sparty. Especially here in this TOOL NEST.
i will, I am just here for some interesting talk about college football, but I expect harassment.
Ok, fair enough. How about the Will Gholston commit? Do you think he is solid?
you never know with 17 year-old. He could live up to the hype. I am not sure if he is as good as Campbell, though.
Thats how I feel about our recruits this year. IMO, none of them are solid until they sign that LOI. Watch and see. Last year we lost a few supposed "TRUE BLUES." SEE BEAVER!
Read the question. Answer the question.
Of course he is. Now please go harass another board.
You should just make this a part of your tagline.
We do recruit instate. Link? Did he say this or are you just spewing bullshit?

"Mathis currently lists Oregon and Michigan State - which has also made a strong recent push for the nation's No. 8 cornerback prospect - atop his list at this stage of the process.
"Those are the top two right now," Mathis said. "Michigan State is making a real big impression. Even though they just had a cornerback commit, which is Mylan Hicks, they are still making a big impression on me.""
Then dammit. We better get Christian and Knight.
Mylan Hicks by the way has also supposedly been outplaying Dior at various camps.
The link is behind a paywall, but this kid is about as confusing as it gets. I hope there is something in the water at CT that is forcing him to act like Big Will. Ultimate bluffer or truly a scatterbrain? I'll go with the latter.
Yes, let's insult a 17 year old kid some more.
Relax, its not an insult buddy. He can go wherever the hell he wants. Scatterbrain means he can't make up his mind, considering he mentions a new leader every week now.
Yes, yes it is. Call your wife one, and then explain it's not an insult.
"A giddy or thoughtless person; one incapable of concentration or attention."
If you mean indecisive, say indecisive. Which, of course, is borderline redundant when referring to any 17 year old making a college decision.
because that describes just about every 17 year old I know to a T.
Does this mean that anybody seventeen or under is exempt from criticism or responsibility for his actions because of his age?
Somebody pass the Ritalin, please....
It means that accusing a 17 year old kid of being "scatterbrained" just because he doesn't have your favorite school in his top two when we're still OVER SEVEN MONTHS AWAY FROM SIGNING DAY is pretty fucking scumbaggish and says alot more about you than anything.
He wasn't saying that because the kid didn't pick M as his favorite makes him a scattered brained. It is that the kid has a new favorite everytime you ask him who's his favorite.
In June of my junior-senior year summer, I was considering 8 schools. I vascillated back and forth for awhile, and I didn't have the complication of having to evaluate the football programs, either. I made my decision in April of my SENIOR year after narrowing it to 3. Was I a scatterbrain? I thought I was being thorough, and I had the benefit of a kick-ass high school college admissions department to help me along.
But we hold any HS junior with a football scholarship to a wholly different standard of decision-making? Unreal.
Alright ass-wipe...i'm out... you officially got me good!
Gonna go enjoy my 4th outdoors with some real human interaction....the co-ed kind. Have fun with your d*ck in your hand.
over recruiting over here. Has it always been like this or did this start when RR became coach? Just asking don't attack me, I am just curious.
