He's widely considered one of the 10 best DC's in the country. He's probably the best of realistic candidates. If we can't get Teryl Austin...my dream hire. Aranda would be #1 for me and then probably Bob Shoop. Vance Bedford and Lance Anderson would be next tier along with other "names."

This would be great!

More content: currently Wisconsin's DC, formerly Utah State. A bunch of top ten defenses in the last four years.

The OSU offense at that point was bombing everyone though.  Bama gave up 42 in the semis a few weeks later.  I think Saban is still a pretty okay defensive coach.

People whose only priority is "stop the spead" have got to realize that Urban is an outstanding offensive coach, and sometimes that offense is going to be really, really tough to stop.  We need to score, which is how Harbaugh beat Oregon when he was at Stanford.

Harbaugh was 1-3 against Oregon. Even during his Orange Bowl year, his only loss was to Oregon. Shaw has had more success against Oregon than Harbaugh, and not because his offense scored a ton of points. In Shaw's two wins over Oregon, his defenses held them to 14 and 20 points.

WIll need to wait for him to get fired by Vanderbilt conidering he is the HC there now.  And he was a Harbaugh hire at Stanford in 2010 as DB coach while Fangio was DC.  Got promoted to CO-DC the next year and then was sole DC the following 2 years in 2012-213 with defenses #3 and #1 in FEI and #11 and #9 in S&P, before going to Vanderbilt in 2014 where he now has a record of 7-17.

He does have the #13 defense at Vanderbilt by FEI in his second year there so he may be able to turn the ship around, but if he can't and gets fired next year, I don't care who the DC is, I want Harbaugh to replace them with Derek Mason.

I know that stopping the Urban Meyer spread isn't possible (unless the weather conditions are completely in your favor and tOSU's playcalling goes to complete shit), but someone who can slow it down somewhat, maybe force a few punts and give our offense a chance would be nice.  Maybe Aranda will be able to do that with better athletes, and maybe his performance in the CCG was partly due to Andersen's impending departure.  But the fact is tOSU is the standard right now, and they're who we'll have to beat if we want to win conference championships and national championships.  So getting a DC capable of slowing down Urban's offense is important.
