I think Roy is really the perfect assistant: intelligent, passionate, with a bonus of having a strong connection to the University and being young and relatable to the players. It looks like his switch to CBs has worked out well too.

he gets a look at the Coordinator job when GMatt retires...he might have to prove he can hack it somewhere else first, but he will for sure be on the radar in a few years.  Great recruiter, position flexibility, and learning under Mattison will all serve him well

He's been a RB coach, a OLB coach and a CB coach.

Right now Mallory is in line to get it, he has DC experience and almost left us to be a HC this offseason.

Manning will be a DC one day, but he probably needs a touch more seasoning.

Mallory would almost certainly be the internal candidate and then you have a bunch of guys who would fit the bill externally.

The ones with Michigan ties would be Vance Bedford, Teryl Austin and Jon Hoke. But obviously it would be easy to find a ton of qualified guys for the position...Michigan ties or not.

What we need is a Roy Manning on OFFENSE. I think a Manning type personality as the RB coach would certainly fit the bill. And two guys with Michigan ties...Wheatley and Hart certainly fit the bill. However, like the DC position, you'd have a BUNCH of guys with no ties that would definitely be qualified for that position.

for some reason the MGoVideo for me isn't working.  It takes a couple tries for me, but the MGoBlue.com video finally loaded for me.  They made us upgrade to IE11 and I don't like it, not to mention the issues we're having with the programs we monitor are having problems.  Me no likey.

I think Manning and Wellman are the most compelling speakers on the staff. I like how Roy can still seem intense while speaking a calm, laidback tone, quiet intensity.

I can see why a lot of these recruits love Coach Manning. go16blue nailed it. He really does have a good grip on things. He will have the CBs playing at a high level.

Ditto on the recruiting. He's young so high schoolers can relate. But he's also a living example to them on how things can work out even if the NFL doesn't. Getting a degree and sticking with the program can have big benefits.

CB position is in great hands going forward and this is his first year so he has a long way to go. He's also slowly but surely turning into our top recruiter.

Coach Manning just seems like one of those guys you want to play for, you want to give it your best and get better for.  Looking forward to seeing the CB's lock things down this year!

Just reading these comments reaffirms what I've been screaming for years now. You can't fill your entire coaching staff with this younger/passionate personality, but if you have one on offense and one on defense...you're set. It works perfectly with the older coaches like Mattison as well.

Think I'm lying? Look at MBB. You some guys gush over Beilein, other guys gush over Alexander and Jordan.

Players, especially 18-19 year olds aren't going to relate or communication the best with all the same personality. You need that younger/passionate voice in there to generate some excitement for some of the guys...for others, they like the experienced fatherly figure.

It's not a coincidence the guys loved Coach Montgomery and they now love Manning. We need a similar personality for the offensive side of the ball and we'll be set.

You have Heck and Mallory that are similar. You have Funk and Smith that are similar. (By perception, I don't know these men so I can't speak to their personalities...but if I'm looking from afar). IMO, you need an offensive guy that would pair well with Manning on the defensive side. I look at Mike Hart and I see a young, up and coming coach who's going to be around for awhile...someone who's not looking to come and leave...someone who's going to be passionate about his team, his unit and his University. Seems like a perfect fit to what Manning brings on the defensive side of the ball.

It's not surprising that we have recruits that don't even play the position that Manning coaches and he's the first name out of their mouths.

I agree that Coach Manning seems like the perfect fit for the team and the staff. He adds some much needed youth to help relate to the younger generation, enthusiasm that always goes a long way, and credibility from having started on teams with Big Ten Championships. I really think he's working his butt off to get these kids ready, and this secondary has the talent to be something special for years to come. I hope we see some big splash plays this weekend! I can't wait to go to the Big House soon!!

These have been a great thing to look forward too everyday. I have never really watched them until this year.  It has however only worked to get me so pumped for the season that I have lost all self control

I made my homeroom students watch a Michigan Hype Video during homeroom today.  I am about 1500 miles from Ann Arbor so they didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I did but it might become a permanent staple in my curriculum.

Unfortunately "the Victors" is not one of our state's core curriculum standards..I have the union looking into this.

I am requiring that they watch the game this weekend and have full UFRs ready to go by Tuesday the boys will do the defense, I gave the girls the offense they tend to be a little more analytical at this age...

Prepared to fail any student who plans on testing my commitment to this project.
