Championship Saturday - Night Games

Submitted by aiglick on March 16th, 2019 at 9:27 PM

This is for anybody that wants to discuss these late games. Duke and FSU are tied at the half. FSU may have the advantage because they go 11 deep and Duke’s starting players have logged a large amount of minutes. Out west, Oregon could steal a bid later tonight.

Happy hoops Saturday.

ESPN coverage of Michigan State-Michigan.

Wait.

There was no coverage of Michigan.  They are handing a number one seed to msu with nothing to say about Michigan.

Time to say Fuck This and  WIN THE GAME!!!!

I have to say it’s amazing how overlooked Michigan is.

I’ve been watching way too much basketball all day and all the accolades are for Tennessee, Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Gonzaga, and of course MSU.

If we end up making a run it will be that much sweeter I guess. I firmly believe our core lineup can match up against the best of the best. We even have developed a little depth now in a pinch.

Locked into Duke / Florida State here. The Seminoles may start bringing in random fans at the Spectrum Center just to REALLY distribute the minutes fairly here....

Depth is good to a point. It is counter-intuitive but show me a college team that is proud of being able to go 11 deep and I will show you a team that may be good but cannot finish down the stretch-compete with the best. Here, you win with your starting five and two or three very good role players who can give that starting five a blow. Can Michigan win with a seven player rotation-yes they can!!!

It was like 10 degrees with the wind chill in the Upper Peninsula today. I have been watching basketball on the couch since 11 am. NMU hockey is on the radio, going into double OT against Bowling Green in a must-win game 2 (edit: judging from comments below guess i'm glad im not listening to bilas)

Jay Bilas is now my least favorite announcer. Listening to him call a Duke game removes all objectivity - and fun from the broadcast.

I'm sick of Bilas spouting off about the ACC deserving 3 number 1 seeds. UNC didn't beat Duke with Zion, and UM thrashed them but I guess that doesn't matter. Also, the ACC only plays 18 conference games. I know that it really doesn't matter, but it still pisses me off that UM/MSU aren't playing for a 1 seed tomorrow.

I feel like despite being a lock for a 2 seed Michigan is flying a bit under the radar. It’s kind of unbelievable especially since at the team’s best they can play with anybody. We absolutely evisercated Villanova, UNC, and Purdue and may be returning to that form. We’ll have to see what happens tomorrow but I wouldn’t want to face Michigan.

Yes, we should all remember that Xavier was the number one seed in the west region last year. That is a lol if I have ever seen one.  I agree with your assessment, I don’t care what seed they give us, we are very dangerous team.  The team that has played these last two games is very much like the murder team that we saw back in November. Sparty is due for a rude awakening tomorrow.

I feel that so many people get it wrong by saying Team X won the (for example) ACC title when that team won the TOURNAMENT championship. That isn’t the ACC title. Virginia won the ACC title.

They’re both championships.

If you think about it the regular season sets up entirely for the league tournament just as the league tournament as well as regular season sets up for the NCAA Tournament.

Both are impressive feats. Separate entities it’s just whatever is your preference.

One of my co-workers is a UVA alum --- per him (and other research verifies this), the ACC ONLY recognizes the tournament champion as a Conference Champion.

The ACC is different from other conferences in that nature.  Virginia isn't an ACC Champion in 2018-19.  Only Duke.

I agree with this.  The regular season is for seeding in the tournament, which decides the champion.  I’ve seen a lot of “regular season” champs not win a tournament or playoffs.  Do you think those teams would give up that shiny record for a tournament championship?  In a heartbeat.  In my mind, there is no such thing as a regular season title.

Ok, I really hate Bilas, but maybe Bill Walton is my least favorite announcer.

Nah, I'll take batshit crazy over condescending and arrogant.

I would like to give credence to humans from the south, or lesser universities, whose 101 books were lesser, perhaps not even great!?; and engender their efforts in sports journalism, and their silly teams and lives.
