Bundchen Says Tom Brady Had Concussion(s)

Submitted by MaizeMN on

I was listening to the KQRS morning show on the way to the office this morning when I heard that, "Gisele Bündchen told “CBS This Morning” on Wednesday that Brady “has concussions pretty much” and added that he had one last season,"

I don't know who the guest was that was talking with Tom Bernard, but his hot take was that playing with a concussion is "cheating" because league protocol dictates missing time once a concussion is diagnosed.

I've heard a lot of stupid shit postulated about the lengths Belichick, Brady and company will go to win, but this one takes the cake. Apparently playing an injured Tom Brady is considered an unfair advantage.

Then again, maybe it is.

If I target your QB and then I get a penalty for it, it's only fair that he should have to leave the game. Otherwise, why would I target him?

I wonder if we'll ever know the truth. Bundchen, as a wife, is concerned about the health of her husband. And she should be. That's her job. But to some degree, it is the job of every mom and every wife and every girlfriend to be protective. That's sexist, but it's also reality.

It seems, imhe, that in some circles, (some doctors, Bundchen, etc.,) people are too quick to say "concussion!" And in other circles, (some coaches? players) people are too slow to admit a concussion.

I'd like to know if there is a clear protocol for defining a "concussion." I'm sure there are a ton of players who went on the field with a concussion. Sometimes, this is just stupid. They shouldn't be playing. Sometimes, however, there is an excess of caution. I have seen with my son and daughter and other kids in high school where trainers or coaches or others will pull people, sometimes with very little reason, but just to "be safe."

As far as the rest of your post, shouldn't we err on the side of caution?

I mean, we're not talking about adding an extra tweak to a hamstring, we're talking about brains, the most important part of "us".

More research is definitely needed, and revealing the methods for diagnosing/pulling concussed players would be nice transparency, but personally I have no problems erring on the side of caution over what ultimately amounts to just a game

Didn't Troy Polamalu once say he had over 100 concussions playing football? I'm sure Brady's had a few.

I would imagine that anyone who has been around as long as Brady, particulary a career which intersects the time before there was the emphasis on concussions that you see now, I can totally believe he's had a few. Even with all the formalities, safeguards and procedures now, I can totally believe players have still played with concussions here and there.

Heck, I've had concussions just from living awhile, and not even playing football. Wish there was protocol in real life....sorry honey, hit my head reaching in the car, you're going to have to finish bringing in the groceries, I have to take a week off.

...this wouldn't surprise me. Great players have the will to compete despite injury.

The thing that rankled me about the report is the lengths Brady haters will go to try and besmirch the GOAT. DeflateGate, ConcussionGate, what's next?

Then again, water is wet...

that is an extremely stupid comment. But, beside that I hope Tom is being careful. He doesn't have anything else to prove and you don't want to mess with concussions. Stay off the field Tom if you have one, get the brain healed before you go back out there.

but she should learn when to keep her mouth shut.  If Brady wants to hide his concussions from the league, having her blabbing about them does nothing but hurt him.

My wife is a Pats fan so I see him play a lot.  He has taken some shots that I've been shocked haven't caused concussions.  So maybe they HAVE caused minor ones and he just decides to play through them.  Players used to play through minor bell-rings quite a bit, even though it puts you at risk for a much bigger concussion on a later hit.  It would obviously not be a brilliant idea on the part of Brady, but it wouldn't shock me to have him do this.
