Baseball takes series from Indiana

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

After Friday's game was pushed to a Saturday DH in which Michigan split, beating 2013 & 2014 B1G Champion Indiana Hoosiers 7-3 in game 1 and came up short in a 13-11 shootout, Michigan was looking to take the series against Indiana for the first time since 2010.

They proved they were for real this weekend when they took a 3-0 lead in the top of the 3rd. They built that lead because of a Drew Lugbauer RBI in the 2nd inning and a Carmen Benedetti 2-run homer in the third.

Indiana eventually cut the lead to 3-2 in the 7th inning, but Michigan tacked on an insurance run in the 8th with a Cody Bruder RBI.

Indiana hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth to inch closer making the score 4-3 Michigan, but Bryan Pall struck two Hoosiers out in a row to give Michigan the 4-3 upset victory in front of a packed Kaufman Field.

Michigan is now 18-13 and 4-5 in the B1G. All of their B1G games have come against teams that were ranked or ranked at some point this season. Definitely the meat of their schedule.

Now that that's out of the way and Michigan managed to go 4-2 in their last 6 after getting swept to open B1G play, Michigan should start racking up the wins.

Michigan will face EMU on Tuesday at 4pm before packing up and heading on the road again. This time to Penn State who is pretty mediocre at 8-17, 1-3 B1G. PSU plays OSU tomorrow again concluding their strange Sat-Sun-Mon weekend series.

Michigan Hocke…

I love watching baseball but not so much Michigan. I have a question about the team. Are we a good enough team to make it to the tournament? Plus on a scale from 1 to 10 how good is our defense.

Indiana is still probably the best team in the conference, with Nebraska and Maryland playing well.  Nicking 2 of 3 from them is a pretty strong statement.  Didn't M baseball also sweep Maryland, or at least take the series?
