Baseball Demolishes Northwestern

Submitted by Sac Fly on

In their Big Ten opener the Wolverines faced Northwestern in a Friday doubleheader.

In game 1 the top of the order dominated at the plate getting 3 RBI from Wenson, 2 from Benedetti and a 3-for-4 game from Bivens. Pitching was solid; Jaskie earned four runs on four hits and Vancena threw 2 2/3 perfect innings. Final score 10-4

Game 2 Matt Ramsay may have played the game of his career. Ramsay homered in 2 in the 2nd, homered in 2 in the third, homered in two in the fifth and singled in his 7th RBI of the day later in the 7th.

The pitching in this game was fantastic. Adcock threw 6 innings, struckout 8 and allowed 1 hit. Miller and Karcher threw an inning each without allowing a hit. Final 12-3.

The team has now won their last 8 games and holds a record of 19-5. Up next the series final Sunday then a single game against Notre Dame, Bowling Green and Minnesota.

As an alumnus of Vanderbilt (undergrad) and Michigan (master's) I was really happy for Erik to get the job there. What's the perception of the job he's done so far there? (I'm guessing fairly positive, but I haven't really been following U-M baseball closely.)

Big Ten currently has four teams in the top 30 of the RPI, I believe. Gotta think that's pretty good for our conference and better than normal.
