2022 #1 overall Quinn Ewers commits to Texas

Southlake (TX) Carroll quarterback Quinn Ewers committed to Texas. He's the #1 overall prospect in the class of 2022. Michigan offered him and was making some connections, but it was always an uphill battle.

As a sophomore last year, he threw for 4,003 yards, 45 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions while running for 568 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Southlake Carroll plays with the big boys in Texas. Not the biggest division, but close. They were the No. 1 H.S. team in America not too long ago IIRC and have won several state titles.

Chase Daniel went there and put up some similarly ridiculous stats but they weren't quite THAT good. Those numbers are hide yo' kids, hide yo' wife obscene.

EDIT: I stand corrected. Daniel threw for 4617 yds and 49 TDs as a senior at Southlake. Hide yo' dog, hide yo' cat.

EDIT #2: they moved up to the biggest division (6A) sometime in the past few years. So, yeah, biggest of the big boys. They lost the state playoff quarterfinal to Duncanville who also had their QB (JaQuinden Jackson, 247's No.3 dual-threat QB in the class) sign with Texas. Somehow I suspect Texas will find a way to get the least out of both until one transfers to OSU and blows up.

Sure, what with Tom Brady getting a little long in the tooth and Ken Stabler pushing up daisies.

Bottom line is there is no way to know how a QB's game will translate to the next level.  I've come to believe that QB is largely a position of cognitive processing speed.  Some guys with all the tools physically end up pretty ho-hum or worse when they jump a level, and no one can figure out what's going on.  Then some guys whom little is expected of cut it up.  It's clearly a mental  feature, and there's no cognitive domain more important to a QB than processing speed.  When you see an all world dude suddenly stumbling at the next level, it's because they can't change their processing speed, it's a capped, natural dimension.  And while their limit worked in Texas football or the Big 10, it just isn't fast enough for the next level.  A close second, in dimensions of intelligence, IMO is working memory (the ability to hold multiple things in ones active, conscious thought).  That's a huge demand on QB's as well, and as they move along they've got to process more and more in their conscious thoughts.

Southlake is a football mega program. They are stacked with big time talent and resources. Not to mention, its pretty common for Texas HS football to run air raids and throw it around. Usually the best talent ends up on offense down there.

So when you take a five star QB talent and stick him into that environment, he's going to put up HUGE numbers.

Just get William Johnson. 5 star CB from Grosse Pointe so of course Harbaugh and Don Brown will go after a 3 star CB from New Hampshire with offers from Dartmouth and Stony Brook.
