2020 in-state WR Devell Washington to WVU

Bay City (MI) Central wide receiver Devell Washington committed to West Virginia today. He's a 3-star, the #100 wide receiver, and #544 overall. Michigan offered him, along with MSU and OSU.

I don't think he is/was high on Michigan's board, but it's still noteworthy, IMO. He's a pretty good athlete and listed at about 6'4", 215 lbs., although I don't think he's quite that big.

I still think Earnest Sanders is the best WR prospect in the state.

Good luck to him. There's a ton of reasons for a kid to want to leave the state/region that have nothing to do with football.

Saw where Khalil Branham has a crystal ball flip to Kentucky. Our wide receiver recruiting has been interesting lately with our new speed in space mantra. We had a lot of instate interest when Gattis first came and then that all disappeared. We lost ground with Rashawn Williams too.  Is Michigan prioritizing something different in wr's lately?

Not too long ago Washington and Williams seemed like the two most likely in-state WRs to commit. Since then, Williams is favoring Indiana and Purdue and now Washington is going to WVU. It just sounds like Michigan under Gattis has reevaluated them.

Meanwhile Michigan seemed to be on the outside looking in for Malik Carr. Now they appear to be his favorite, largely due to Gattis. Cameron Martinez has clearly been targeted too. I'm not sure that's so much prioritizing something different in WRs as much as Carr and Martinez look like better prospects. Michigan is not the only program that looks at them as such.

If he flips to Kentucky? It certainly looks similar. A little different since Michigan was his only big offer when he committed. I'd imagine Gattis would tell him they're looking for a different type of WR now though. Might as well be diplomatic.

Magnus - Any insight on the in-state OL Josh Priebe?

I don't think M is pushing too hard for him and thought MSU was.  Saw that he just got an "offer" from OSU that surely muddies the water for the Spartans.

I honestly don’t believe he was a take, looks at his stats last year. Meh at best!  I also have a hard time believing he could hack it in the classroom.  I think this is a win for the guys in Maize and Blue.  Nice kid, but I don’t see him as a legit D1 player.  I actually think he should go to a place like Ferris and try to tear it up.

I think he had 2-3 touchdowns or something, didn’t even make the dream team in Bay City at WR.  The kid who did is playing D3 football.  Kid has some  tools but something is missing.  Rumor around is that he is a cancer on his team and may end up at a different high school.  If he can’t be the most productive WR in his city why would we expect him to blow up at the collegiate level.  Maybe he proves everyone wrong, as of now just a generic three star with lots to prove.

All his big plays were in garbage time. Was solid his sophomore year. This last year had a qb who hit him in the hands 7-8 times per game and he caught about half of them. Hate to be negative about a kid but, it is what its is. Against elite competition, Mona Shores, had 4 drops two fumbles and zero impact.

In general, I view the movement of the kids-rated like this and lower ("off the board") as good recruiting news. I believe, in general-again, that a lot of high 4 star kids are viewing Michigan in a good light but are going to slow-walk them this year/season with a "show me" attitude. If Michigan has a very good to great season they will get an avalanche of elite talent-but it may not come until December. This will make us all very anxious...but that is the reality of the recruiting world...and I do not, at all, fault these kids for this approach.
