2 Michigan Players in 1st round of SI Mock Draft (1 is not who you think...)

Submitted by Rickett88 on October 19th, 2021 at 10:40 AM

Interesting look into a mock 1st round.

Kenny Pickett (if you haven't seen this guy play, find a Pitt game, he's got the goods, dude) - 1st to Lions

George Karlaftis (brought back bad memories of a recruiting miss) - 2nd to the Jets

Aiden Hutchinson - 9th to the Falcons

David Ojabo (!?!?!) - 19th to Broncos

I hadn't seen Ojabo projected as an early NFL player, let alone projected in the 1st round. Also, Chris Olave not projected in the first round, but Wilson was.

Ojabo certainly has upside but I think is both getting help from Hutchinson attention also has played some pretty not good tackles over the past few weeks. 1st rnd seems quite the stretch at this moment...

Exactly.

This article was written by the noted football expert Jack Borowski.  Who is Jack Borowski you ask?  Why Jack is a Freshman at the University of Miami and will graduate there in 2025.  He has 4,000 followers on Twitter (allegedly) and knows about as much on draft projections as my cat Murphy.

Some of them have actually been part of a scouting org before or have access to GMs/scouting reports and hence know where teams have guys on their boards though.  And hence many are pretty accurate.

This is an 18 year old kid intentionally throwing some random dudes in here that are related to big fan bases to get the kind of shock reaction that the OP obliged him with.

Yeah, my first thought was this has to be some click bait user generated article.  So I look up Jack Borowski and his Twitter Bio starts out semi-legit, I guess: Assistant Scouting Director for SI. Ok.

Then I see UMiami '25? Huh?  Is he a grad student?

Nope!  He's literally an 18 (maybe 19 but looks 12) year-old freshman: https://www.instagram.com/jack_borowsky/?hl=en

Lol.  I'll believe it when I see it.  Sure we've seen some great growth out of him over the last couple of games but 19th?  The kid has shown that he has some major upside but he's still super raw.

Karlaftis was always going to be a tough pull, given his connection and his mother's connection to West Lafayette and Purdue.  Would have been great, and had Brohm taken the L'Ville opening, it may have happened.  But I wouldn't categorize that as a miss. A lot of top programs wanted him. He chose to stay home.

Although SI sucks, Profootballnetwork also has Ojabo (and hill) going in the first round.  So there is a ton of steam now for Ojabo.

It sucks, because that fucking horrible Wisconsin pass blocking Tackle is what is doing this to him.

Your last sentence is terrible and flat out wrong. Ojabo's play along with impressive physical tools is "what is doing this to him".

He didn't rack up all 4.5 sacks (or the multitude of other impressive plays/pass rushing moves he's had this year) on that Wisconsin OT.

He's going to be a 1st Rd player sooner or later so let's just enjoy him while he's at M.

David Ojabo sucks. The only reason he makes any sacks is because Aidan Hutchinson plays opposite him. Maybe Ojabo will be good in three years, but there's no way he should be picked in the first round. I have it on good authority that he only runs a 6.2 forty and can only bench press Mike Sainristil 3 times.

Kenny Pickett is a really good prospect. I'd take Thibodeaux first overall though, so the Lions might have to package picks if they're going to go after Pickett too. He certainly won't still be there at the end of the first round.

Pickett might be good, but he wasn't good enough to beat WMU when I was in Pittsburgh a month ago.

Again, that score:. WMU 44-Pitt 41.

And before 41 points overly impressed anyone, WMU gave up more points than that 2 Saturdays ago at home vs. Ball State.

But...it would be a very "Loins" thing to do to reach for him in the first round.
