Game Day Weather

Are you fired up for our first away game this season?! It'll feel like you're standing next to a fire! We're headed to Nebraska where the heat. is. ON. Heat as in they could set record highs Friday and won't be much cooler Saturday. Blazing sunshine heat. Heat like we live in a state shaped like a mitten and it's almost October what's happening heat. A low pressure system developing to the west will give us a good southerly breeze, helping to bring in the warmth. We'll stay dry with sunshine with basically a repeat Sunday. If you're going to this game make sure you're staying plenty hydrated and grab the sunglasses/hat! We got this, go blue!

If you're traveling to Lincoln...

Tailgating

Just like a couple of years ago this is going to be a warm one! Grab the iced coffee and hit up the gas station for some extra ice! Grab some water, too - nobody wants a dehydration headache on game day. Lincoln should be starting off the day in the upper 40s this time of year and instead, we're looking at low 70s. Skies will be clear with a sunrise time of 7:23. You'll notice the leaves are already in almost constant motion with a steady S wind around 10mph and gusts into the teens. This will be a great morning for the overnight oats, a yogurt parfait bar set up, or making smoothies! Heck even cold pizza. You won't want the heavy carb stuff and as we approach lunchtime, no one wants to be the person standing next to a hot grill. Temps will rise quickly, surpassing 85 as we head through the midday hours, with lots of sun. Winds will also increase, out of the S at 15mph with gusts to the low 20s (small tree branches will begin to sway). Between the heat, dryness, and winds, the fire danger will have a High or Very High rating Saturday, giving you one more reason not to light a grill. Grab a hot dog or a brisket sandwich (find one on any side of the stadium) when you go in for the game.

Kickoff

Kickoff is at 2:30pm Central! So make sure you're checking your phone/smart watch for the time vs an analog watch. It's going to be a toasty start to the game in Memorial Stadium! Normal high is 75 - nope. We're not even close. Low 90s for the kickoff with a S wind at 20mph, gusting to the mid 20s (you'll see larger branches moving from time to time now). We'll have just a few clouds with a heat index in the mid 90s.

Halftime

This. Game. Is on. Figh-yaaahhh! Because we're winning, but also because it's hot as hayul out there lol. Low 90s for the halftime break may have you taking a water/shade break while you grab a snack. Winds will remain up near 20mph with gusts a tad higher. Hopefully the person next to you remembered to wear deodorant!

Post-Game

Still hanging on near 92 for the end of the game! We'll still be under mostly sunny skies as well. If you're going out to dinner we're spending the evening in the mid 80s. This is when you shower before heading out and then wonder if it was even worth it. Winds do start to lighten a bit, falling to around 15mph, gusting to near 20mph - it's just an all-around good dinner to skip the patio and go inside in the AC. Winds will stay near that 15mph mark into the overnight. We don't look to drop below 80 until the late-night, and like Saturday morning, Sunday morning will feature low 70s. Skies will stay mostly clear through the nighttime hours. Sunday is pretty much a copy and paste of Saturday, just slightly cooler.

If you're staying in Ann Arbor...

Not nearly as warm here! It actually will be a pretty fantastic day in Michigan. Expect some patchy morning fog, so give yourself a little extra time if you'll be out running errands in the early hours. This gives way to lots of sun with highs in the mid 70s! If you're going out to watch the game/after, we'll drop to the mid 60s for dinner and to around 60 for the late-night. Winds will be light, near 5mph out of the SE, throughout the day before turning calm at night. Let's go blue!

CHRISTINA BURKHART IS THE MORNING METEOROLOGIST FOR ABC IN FLINT, MI. SHE GREW UP IN ANN ARBOR AND ASSOCIATES SATURDAYS WITH MICHIGAN FOOTBALL. GO BLUE!!

Thanks again for the forecast - I always look forward to the read even when the game is on the road and I'm watching in the living room.  I was at the game a couple of years ago - it was not only a hot day but the weather was just weird.  I did not get in the way of a good time during the day and the game was at night so we were not sitting in hot sun.

I wish to the M fans making the trip to Lincoln to have fun and bring back the W and some of the warm weather.

If you're staying in Ann Arbor...This gives way to lots of sun with highs in the mid 70s!

If I had to choose one thing I miss most about living in the North, it would have to be the fall weather. Absolutely the best time of the year. Enjoy it all you Michiganders.
