Game Day Weather

Grab the warm yellow sweatshirt or layer up under that shirt - it's a maize out for this match up against Penn State! We've got stacked low pressure over the Great Lakes region and a weak front moving through the state, followed by high pressure to the south. For these reasons, we'll see light rain showers overnight into Saturday morning before drying out, but staying cool into the afternoon. It'll be breezy tomorrow, too. C'mon blue, let's send those lions back to happy valley a little on the sad side!

Tailgating

This is one of those morning tailgates where you'll want that warmer coat! Likely the hat and gloves, too. If you're out there early, it's going to be chilly and we'll still be seeing some light rain showers. Rain looks to move out by 8am with little accumulation, but be prepared for some soggy/muddy spots here and there! Early morning temps will be near 40, which isn't bad, but WSW winds will already be up near 10-12mph (small branches move), gusting to 20mph - you'll see some smaller trees move a bit. This is going to make it feel more like the low to mid 30s! Good thing you remembered the little heater for your tailgate tent! And the fireball. (I mean, when is there NOT fireball?!) As we're finishing up the morning you'll see some brightness through the clouds with temps into the mid 40s (still going to feel more like the upper 30s as winds pick up a tad). This is a good game to get in there early so you can get your pom-poms! There will also be a flyover of Air Force F-16's from the 112th Fighter Squadron of the 180th Fighter Wing!

Kickoff

48 degrees with some clouds for the start! Just keep in mind, it won't feel like 48! Winds will pick up to around 15mph out of the W with gusts into the mid 20s - you'd see a lot of white horses if you were out on a boat. This will keep wind chills in the low 40s. Just keep waving your pom-poms!

Halftime

We're edging into the low 50s by halftime but we just can't shake this breeze! Steady winds will remain around 15mph, gusting into the mid 20s, which will have it feeling more like the mid/upper 40s. Is this the game where you bump up to the L hot chocolate?! Maybe send one person to grab the snacks because you'll want to see at least some of the halftime show - it features Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra - pretty neat! The Michigan wrestling team is also being recognized for their Big Ten Championship title this year. It's the first one since 1973! We'll see some clouds with our sunshine for the rest of the afternoon.

Post-Game

Walking outta those gates with a win! We hit our high temp for the day near the game's end, in the low 50s. Winds will stay out of the WSW, gradually starting to lighten up. If you're heading out to dinner, winds will be down to around 10mph by then, then drop to near 5mph into the late night. Skies are mainly clear to finish out the day, and without those clouds acting like a blanket, it'll get chilly real quick, so make sure if you're going bar hopping you have the warm coat from the tailgate! We're falling to the mid 40s by 7pm and into the upper 30s by 10pm. We'll drop just a little more into the mid 30s overnight, so instead of the last drink maybe save that cash for an Uber or it's going to be a cold walk home! Sunday will be a little warmer and dry for much of the day before rain moves back in. Here's your millionth reminder to wear maize!! Let's go blue, beat those nittany lions!

CHRISTINA BURKHART IS THE MORNING METEOROLOGIST FOR ABC IN FLINT, MI. SHE GREW UP IN ANN ARBOR AND ASSOCIATES SATURDAYS WITH MICHIGAN FOOTBALL. GO BLUE!!
