Game Day Weather

Happy Homecoming! After a pretty great Friday, Saturday not as nice. We have a low pressure system moving through the region and this will keep things a little on the chilly side, along with bring in more clouds and rain chances. Luckily if you're headed to the alumni tailgate it's indoors! We've won the last ten homecoming games in a row so hopefully we can keep that streak going as we take on Big Ten rival Maryland. This is one of those games you'll want a couple of layers since we'll warm up a little into the afternoon under mainly gray skies, and put the poncho in your pocket just in case. Let's go blue!

Tailgating

It's great. To be. A Michigan Wolverine! Welcome home to the Big House, alumni! This is always a fun weekend with the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses coming together for so many activities! We're starting off Saturday seasonable with temperatures near 50 and a light and variable wind. The sun rises at 7:25am - get up and get out there! This is perfect tailgate weather for the crockpot eggs or the warm cinnamon rolls. And why not switch it up a little and swap out the coffee for some spiked hot cider?! It IS officially Fall now :) We'll be mostly cloudy but a S wind picking up to around 5mph (just enough to rustle some leaves) will help us to hit the mid 50s into the later morning hours. We'll have a chance for rain in the morning so make sure to have your pocket poncho, and take it with you to the game.

Kickoff

Near 60 degrees for the noon kickoff! Plenty of clouds wanted to come to the game, too, so don't expect to see much sun. Winds will be out of the S, going up to about 10mph through the first half. Spotty showers are possible but we'll have the better chance at staying dry. The Michigan Alumni Band is performing before the game so it's not a bad Saturday to head through the gates a little early.

Halftime

The alumni band is also performing in the halftime show with the marching band. The halftime performance is celebrating female inclusion and leadership - did you know women weren't in the marching band until 1972?! Happy 50 years marching, girlfriends! Try to catch some of the show as you grab a snack and a drink. Anyone going in for hot chocolate or are you determined to hold out until it gets colder outside? The high temp will be hit toward the end of the game, ending up around 65, continuing to have that S wind near 10mph. We should be closer to 70 for this time of year. We'll still see plenty of clouds and carry the possibility of rain through the second half.

Post-Game

Heading out for an early dinner to celebrate the win over those Terps? Lots of cloud cover out there with temperatures slowly dropping back to the lower 60s. Our chances to run into rain increase into the late night so you might want to just keep your poncho in your bag just in case, especially if you've got a walk back to the car or home. Winds get lighter throughout the evening & late-night as temps fall to the lower 50s by the time the lights come on. Yeah, yeah you're catching up and you haven't seen your peeps in forever. Have brunch with them tomorrow - inside, since we'll be cloudy with scattered rain again on Sunday. It shouldn't slow you down too much if you traveled for this game, but on and off rain is likely all day Sunday. Fun fact: diamondback terrapins are thought to be the only turtle in the world that lives only in brackish water. Our lakes are fresh, so basically you can just go home Maryland! C'mon blue! Let's go!!

CHRISTINA BURKHART IS THE MORNING METEOROLOGIST FOR ABC IN FLINT, MI. SHE GREW UP IN ANN ARBOR AND ASSOCIATES SATURDAYS WITH MICHIGAN FOOTBALL. GO BLUE!!

Wow, that is surprising that Women could not be marching band members until 1972. I thought Women would first become members in the marching band back in he 40s or 50s..
