Film Analysis Ep 9.2 - PSU - Defense - Sacks, INTs & more

Submitted by FanNamedOzzy on November 9th, 2018 at 12:33 PM

Hey guys — This episode is a bit rushed, had to get on a flight to NYC for the Rutgers game! Plays 6, 7, and 8 feature me talking quite quietly as I had to record it super early while others were sleeping, so apologies for that. So, excuse any sloppiness and let me know what I missed, I’m sure it’s more than usual this time around.

With that out of the way, enjoy the video and thanks for all the feedback thus far!

9.2.1 - Q1 13:52 - 2nd & 10 - 50 - Sack Winovich for 7 yards

  • Good pass rush from Gary (great to have him back). Winovich shows impressive hand violence to get inside the RT to close in on McSorely, who’s forced up due to Gary around the left edge. Coverage is solid.

9.2.2 - Q1 13:08 - 3rd & 16 - PSU44 - Sack by Uche for 8 yards

  • Pick route from PSU - opens up Hamler on a stick(?) route, but by that time Uche has already flashed inside the LT on a stunt between him & Paye, which is executed to perfection.

9.2.3 - Q2 5:42 - 3rd & 16 - PSU25 - Sack Uche for 7 yards

  • Annnnd ANOTHER Uche sack. Dude is unreal. Winovich beats #71 on the right side. Dwumfour sets up Uche well through the middle on a stunt. PSU Center is looking to the wrong side, misses Uche altogether.

9.2.4 - Q2 1:06 - 3rd & 10 - UM39 - Sack by Glasgow

  • Knock knock. Who’s there? Another sack. PSU reacts well to the edge rush from Glasgow and Hudson. Winovich’s penetration opens up Glasgow to get the sack. Gary gets solid rush, as well, and is held at the end.

9.2.5 - Q3 9:26 - 1st & 10 - PSU20 - Sanders run for no gain

  • PSU running the ball did not go well. Power left run attempted, here. Winovich positions himself in the hole, beating the RG on his block. Sanders is forced outside, where Kinnel does well to keep contain and finish.

9.2.6 - Q3 8:45 - 3rd & 9 - PSU29 - McSorely run of 5 yards

  • Coverage is excellent on this play. Winovich & Dwumfour execute a stunt well, which forces McSorely out of the pocket. Kinnel keeps his eyes on McSorely and appropriately comes down to force him OOB. Nice play.

9.2.7 - Q3 0:25 - 1st & 10 - PSU48 - Watson pick 6

  • INT #1 - Possibly the worst thrown ball all season? Looks like Stevens did have the fade open on the left (Kinnel?), but it’s an inexplicably bad throw. Nice return from Watson to capitalize.

9.2.8 - Q4 9:43 - 1st & 10 - PSU17 - INT Long

  • INT #2 - No real pressure. The throw is telegraphed the whole way by the QB’s eyes. Long looks like he’s in M2M initially, but is responsible for the flat. Throw is a bit behind the target, and Long takes advantage.
