Film Analysis Ep 2.2 - Army - Defense

Submitted by FanNamedOzzy on September 20th, 2019 at 2:21 PM

Let's look at the defense! Covered 8 plays here, 1 of them being Don Brown's "MOVE" call with Army on the 1 yard line. I cover some of the chunk plays that Army pulled off and then some of the bigger plays from the Wolverine defense.

As always, let me know any changes / improvements / criticisms you guys have. Thanks for the support thus far!

2.2.1 - Q1 8:05 - M49 - 1st & 10 - Big gain, 31 yards

  • Well-blocked play from Army. Hudson tries to undercut the OL, but that leaves room inside for the RB with Metellus blocked on outside.

2.2.2 - Q1 6:21 - M10 - 3rd & 2 - 8 yard gain QB

  • Hill gets taken for a ride on the edge. Hutchinson close to making a big play, can’t quite get there. Glasgow with nice effort, here.

2.2.3 - Q3 12:47 - A37 - 2nd & 8 - Pass for 30 yards

  • Hudson is beat here, flat-out. Guy runs past his face and gets past him. Well-executed from Army

2.2.4 - Q3 8:54 - M1 - 2nd & G - False Start

  • Probably a game-saving play. Don Brown calls for a “MOVE”, having Anthony shout “MOVE” to elicit a false start. Otherwise, probably a TD.

2.2.5 - Q3 7:53 - M5 - 3rd & G - Hill INT

  • Deciding to throw was probably the second biggest play of the game. Great pressure from Hudson forces a bad throw, but coverage was there even if on-target. Game-changing play.

2.2.6 - 2OT - M25 - 1st & 10 - Uche / Hudson for 2 yard

  • Huge play from Uche to break through his block to make contact at the LOS. Hudson fights through a double to clean-up. Hill in good position as well.

2.2.7 - 2OT - M23 - 2nd & 8 - Hutchinson TFL 3 yards

  • Hutchinson slashes through a gap left by a pulling OG. Flashes excellent burst, getting a huge TFL on the QB. One of the biggest plays of the game.

2.2.8 - 2OT - M26 - 3rd & 11 - Fumble recovery, Paye

  • Paye flashes around the edge, forcing QB up in the pocket. Both Kemp & Hutchinson both break through late. Hutchinson gets his hand on the ball, forcing a fumble. Ball-game.
