We DID sign Gerald Laird (again) so he will be there to prevent Avila's knees from disintegrating. Not much AT the plate but at least he's good BEHIND the plate.
My home streak is at 133. I've not missed a home game in 20 seasons. My first, as a freshman, was the 1991 ND game - Desmond's catch! What a way to start your in-person fandom!
I'm actually amazed it's taken less than four months (at least that we can document) for the Horror to be attributed to RR. I figure this will be something I'll have to correct people about (after getting shit for it, of course) for the rest of my life as a Michigan fan. Sad but true.
When people ask me questions they could find answers to themselves, I always want to send them this link (although I rarely do because I would then feel bad):
You're a bigger man than me because, while this is my argument in the comfort of my own home, I'm too afraid of the "neg" to post it here. This is probably my BIGGEST issue with all of this - what do "expectations of winning" even mean to this fanbase?
As much as I appreciate all of Bill Martin's work as AD, I really think he could have helped RR a lot more. I know he's not the marketing guy David Brandon is but I really wish he would have helped RR navigate some of the bigger issues like traditions, alums, etc. Seeing Brandon's Brady Hoke-PR train full spead ahead makes me wonder how it would have been if RR had benefited from the same thing.
I ask this all the time. As the new person, isn't it nice if people welcome you? Isn't that common courtesy? When we moved into our neighborhood, most of our neighbors stopped by to say hello and made us feel right at home. We have one neigbor that STILL has never even said hello. I can't waste my time on that neighbor.
Thanks for this. I couldn't have typed it better myself - it's like you were reading my mind!
As is often the case with family, it takes time to heal after something like this. And I'm not healed yet, despite everyone telling me that I should be.
This was a sad, but interesting, read. I've always been a HUGE fan of Danny Ainge and it's good to know he's still out there doing good things like helping his nephew through this.
If I recall, there was an interview with David Brandon saying how Brady Hoke hasn't asked him for anything other than the countdown clocks. So, if he asked for them, they have something to do with them.
And, yes, when Dantonio did it, we all mocked him for it. And now ...
... is that if Brady Hoke rocked some Josh Groban, the majority of the fan base would think it was freakin' awesome because it would show his passion, his emotion, his love for Michigan. But, in reality, it's lame. It's kind of like how the majority of the fan base thought the countdown clocks were lame ... until Brady Hoke installed a couple. And now, they are freakin' awesome.
I think Section 1's point is that, before Mattison, Michigan was never known to pay assistant coaches much of anything. Had we opened up the checkbook a little and brought Casteel in, who knows how things may have turned out.

Did I miss something (entirely possible) about the timeframe of Hoke's punishments? If it wasn't clear WHEN this would take place (spring, fall, offseason, etc.), how is this any different than what went on before (and what we got tagged for by the NCAA)? Just curious.
I have four seats and this commitment is our only real family entertainment from September - November. I hope this isn't the start of pricing out the normal everyday fan because I don't know if I can keep up. I'm sure someone will gladly step in, though, if I can't. Damn.
By all means, let's not let the facts get in the way. M basketball was ignored FOR YEARS after the whole scandal. Add to that terrible coaching hires. This whole mess is not the fault of just one person ... not the fault of just Chris Webber.
Technically, it didn't happen, right? The whole thing has been erased. So, really, what's there to apologize for?
I know he's the AD and speaks for the department as a whole but I thought he came off a little on the arrogant side. And, like was posted earlier, if contact can't even be made with Webber until 2013, what good does asking for an apology now do?
Either way, those were amazing times and they would not have happened without Chris Webber!
I do find it funny that a football coach is credited for the success of the basketball program. I thought maybe the basketball coach would get that credit or maybe the basketball TEAM.
Then again, I remember reading a ridiculous story about Harbaugh being credited for the success of Stanford's WOMEN'S basketball team so at least it's not that bad!
I read this earlier - it's a good one and so true!
I am so giddy, like a kid in a candy shop! BUT, I have to keep reminding myself that it's quite possible the impotent NCAA will do close to nothing. Then I get bummed out. Then I need another article like this one. It's a vicious circle!
AND I checked back three or four pages on the board as I didn't want to get hammered by everyone telling me it was already posted. Fear the MGoCommunity!
I doubt we'll ever know but was there another guy? If so, who was it? It is odd that he was pulled to the side of the road and with his engine smoking (also according to the report).
Thanks for this link! I am so excited for spring training - pitchers and catchers report Feb. 14. I'm looking forward to some more dominance from Scherzer this season - he's was pretty awesome after coming back from Toledo last year.
Can't wait, especially after the last few months surrounding Michigan football!

He's wearing scarlet and covering it with grey! What to do?
(good find)

Oh, what fun!
Just frustration that he'll get more than three years, pretty much, no matter what.
I know where you stand and, most of time, I'm there with you.

I was waiting for you, Section 1 :-)
We all know Hoke will get more than 3 years!

OK, what do you mean? Because as a diehard Tigers' fan, I think I might be offended :-)
Co-signed!

Fixed.
Good catch!
EDIT: I lied, NOT fixed. It's not letting me edit THAT post, just this one. Doh!
Just when I think I can't love MGoBlog anymore, Brian drops a "They Live" reference. AWESOME!
Also, someone who is good with Photoshop, quick, Coach Rod as Michael Douglas in Falling Down!
This was a sad, but interesting, read. I've always been a HUGE fan of Danny Ainge and it's good to know he's still out there doing good things like helping his nephew through this.
For the reference to Coach K's back when they totally sucked. I can't look at him and NOT think of that. Do not like!
... now, Section 1, that's just CRAZY TALK!
/sarcasm
... what? Did I miss that on his resume? He was the DC in 1997? Good to know!
I see what you're saying!
He's from OHIO so he automatically gets it. Yep.

... why Meyer would "get it" more than Rodriguez? Does not compute to me.

I think he had emotion, just not the right KIND of emotion. Not MICHIGAN MAN emotion.
Thanks for that. Couldn't have typed it better myself!
Just looked it up, thanks for the link. No TRUE Michigan Man ...
and on more than just this topic ... sigh.

He's split between special teams and tight ends:

... don't give a shit!
Honey badger RULES!
Will do next time! Anything to reduce the snark ...

So painful!

"I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly ..."
It will be interesting to follow. The Josh Hamilton story was spun positively so I hope there's some leftover positivity for Cabrera. It's just sad.

Oh thank the good Lord!
Is this shirt made of thin, very rippable (is this a word?) material? You know, so it can be torn off a la the Hulkster. God, I hope so.
Also, if Hoke would grow a 'stache like that, it might help me get off the fence a bit on his hire!
Whatcha' gonna' do, brother?!?!
