Diabetes and High Blood Pressure. I cannot stress it enough. They are killing you slowly if they are uncontrolled. You won't 'feel it' until it's too far gone

Heading up to the family home in Cross Village (sturgeon bay) this afternoon. Looks like the weathers going to hold up for some great hiking and tree peeping

Logged in to reiterate how outstanding these posts are.

Was just joking with a couple of my old med school buddies about how Immunology was one of the most difficult courses in all of med school because of the complexity. Now we have the general public trying to understand it with little to no background.

You have done a wonderful job of putting it in understandable and easy-to-read terms. Thank you

Currently we don’t have…

Currently we don’t have enough testing supplies to test anyone except those that meet hospitalization criteria. In an ideal world, yes we would just test everyone and put those who are positive in quarantine. Just not a reality right now.

Medical Professional here …

Medical Professional here (and entirely my opinion) - the fact that we are unable to test even some people with symptoms at this point is far less than ideal and a true indictment on our collective preparedness. But at this point the assumption - at least in my hospital - is that we have all been exposed. In response we have taken further measures to help prevent spread eg. cancelling all elective surgeries, limiting patient visitors, creating full floors with isolation protocol. IMO it’s not even necessary to test us.

That said, unfortunately I think Vanarbor is right. We’re playing to the least common denominator right now and anything that can further convince that portion of the public that this shit is real is helpful. Kevin Durant testing positive provides shock value and that’s a necessary factor in today’s age of rapid boredom with news.

hope everyone stays safe and healthy

Yes.

Would add to this that…

Yes.

Would add to this that the syndesmosis and Ant Tib-Fib Ligament are essentially the structures that keep the distal (further from the center of the body) ends of the tibia and fibula from spreading apart, meaning that an injury to these structures can result in an unstable ankle (and often the inherent need for surgery). What you mentioned above and the potential ease with which further injury can cause a stable injury to become unstable is a major reason playing on a high ankle sprain too early can cause a much longer term issue.

About 18 months ago I…

About 18 months ago I proposed to my now wife at the top of a dune overlooking Lake Michigan (grape hill on Sturgeon Bay for anyone familiar with the Cross Village area). 2 weeks later there was a cougar sighting at the very same spot. And no, my wife isn’t 50 and on the prowl.

Hard to say, but it doesn't…

Hard to say, but it doesn't really matter at this point. Unless it started in the last 48hrs your treatment will be the same -- "supportive care" -- meaning symptom control while your body fights off the infection. Ibuprofen, tylenol, and antihistamines are my go-to. You can take all three at the same time, but pay attention because many of the antihistamine drugs eg. dayquil/nyquil contain tylenol. Also lots of sleep and plenty of water. If it doesn't start getting better in a couple of days go see someone in person.

If you have a lot of other health issues going on (diabetes, heart disease, etc) you should go see someone sooner, as they can make a common cold much more severe. Best of luck and feel better!

Coppercraft (out of holland,…

Coppercraft (out of holland, mi) has a new (ish) bourbon that’s been winning a bunch of awards right around that price point. Good stuff

Huge fan of 1792 and Elijah Craig personally, especially if you get one of their single barrels

Cincy,

Another medical…

Cincy,

Another medical professional here, although not a neurosurgeon. I will echo that whatever your Doctor recommends is likely the best route, which you seem to know.

That said, the most common type of pituitary mass is called an adenoma, which are more common than you would think and almost always slow growing and benign. The fact that it has been giving you headaches (and the bleeding) leads me to believe that it is likely of the larger variety (a macroadenoma). That doesn't necessarily mean it is worse in terms of outcome. Many of these masses also secrete one of the numerous pituitary hormones which may or may not cause other symptoms. If so there are a few medications that tend to work extremely well and actually cause the tumor to shrink in size. My guess is that they have already started you on one of these medications. If it works, wonderful. If it doesn't, usually surgery to remove it is the best option. No matter what though, outcomes are generally quite good.

I will reiterate that your personal doctor likely knows best, and what I have said is mostly educated guesswork based on my knowledge and the info you have provided. I hope it gives you a little bit more context and comfort. Best wishes and go blue.

Former Münchner Michigan Man…

Former Münchner Michigan Man here,

Champions is a good spot - they will have college football on all day and it’s easy access from U3/U6, two of the main UBahn lines.

Alternatively, Kennedy’s Irish Pub at Sendlinger Tor (near center of town) shows NFL every Sunday. I’ve never watched a Michigan game there but I wouldn’t be surprised if they had the college football package.

if you choose to stay home, I never had problems accessing the reddit streams and I did not have a vpn subscription.

Former Münchner Here:

First of all, enjoy! Munich is an amazing city. Here are some of my favorite spots (some of which will echo other folks):

Pub/Brewery: Head to the Augustiner Bräustuben. This is the actual brewery/restaurant of the Augustiner brand. It is different than the augustiner beer garden (also wonderful). They serve the beer straight out of the barrel, which they bring up from the basement using an old fashioned platform pully system. Freshest beer in the city.

Beer garden: Really all wonderful, but I am partial to Chinesichen Turm. It can be pretty busy but it's right in the middle of the English Garden (their version of central park) which makes for a wonderful stroll after a few brews. I also love Hirschgarten, which is a little off the beaten path, but won't attract nearly as many tourists

English Garden itself is a must. There are many options for bike rentals if you're into that or just to walk around/picnic. Remember, it's always acceptable to bring beer.

Nymphenburg Castle: This castle is on the west side of the city. It was the "summer home" of the bavarian royal family who lived in Munich. It has a couple small museums and a really nice park surrounding it.

Deutsches Museum: This is a museum of science/technology and it is outstanding. One of those muesums where a lot of it is pseudo hands-on. Too much there to see everything in one day

Viktualienmarkt: Big market near the city center (Marienplatz)

Neuschwanstein

Excellent suggestion; one of the best castles in the entire world. Beware though, you are not allowed to enter the castle unless you book a guided tour.

Also be sure to check out Hohenschwanstein, which is the castle down the hill Ludwig II lived in while he watched them build Neuschwanstein

To all of this, especially Tahquamenon and the Shipwreck Museum.

Also give a shoutout to Cross Village and Leggs Inn. Tiny little up north town about 25 min from Mac City with a great Polish restaurant and amazing views.

IMO, there's no point in staying in Mac City or St. Ignace if you're planning on staying on the Island...
