Thanks for the response, Ace…

Thanks for the response, Ace - good to hear a word from you on your exit from the staff; and best wishes going forward!

hopefully in this scenario…

hopefully in this scenario less players decide  to sit out the post season.

Good point; and one of the key benefits (hopefully) in my mind... though they may need to somehow incentivize players a bit further, eventually, hopefully this will help!

Thanks for pulling this…

Thanks for pulling this together; cool to see the schools that would have been there... (and crazy that the B1G tied with the SEC!)

Hurt, covered by Johnny Cash…

Hurt, covered by Johnny Cash is probably #1 on my list

Agreed - this is probably the best improvement by any covered song I've ever heard!

As commented below, "Sound of Silence" by Disturbed (Simon & Garfunkel original) is probably #2 for improvements.

"Landslide", covered by the Smashing Pumpkins, is very close in quality to Fleetwood Mac's original - they're both amazing, it's hard to decide.

And speaking of the Pumpkins, while I do think their original of 1979 is better, I also really like Freedom Fry's stripped-down acoustic version a lot....

Agreed on this - love Simon …

Agreed on this - love Simon & Garfunkel and their whole body of work; but Disturbed really gave the song the right sound

I hate up-voting this, but it's just a good take, unfortunately...

Yeah, good call... you can…

Yeah, good call... you can always watch the recording of your family thing after the game... plus you'll have it for posterity to pull out to re-watch during future family events... Win-Win-Win

(The 3rd Win is for UM Hoops, obvs!)

We ourselves have control as…

We ourselves have control as to how we decide to use them.  No one is forcing you to follow those hyper-partisan pages and no one is making you re-post things that are easily proven to not be true.

I agree on this point (as well it being a good documentary, even if just a reminder for some.)

I think that the somewhat hokey dramatizations, which I could have personally done without, may be an attempt to make it more "accessible" to "Gen Z", etc. -- if that's the case I get it.

One way to help mitigate the impact of the echo chamber is to vary your sources: For news sites, I look at CNN & Fox News, primarily, but also MSNBC & OANN.

On Twitter I follow politicians of all stripes; and everything from antifa movement & "abolish the police" accounts to [actual, blatant] white supremacists, and everyone in between... I think this probably helps as I don't seem to get articles slanted all one way.

Heck, I'm a conservative, evangelical Christian; and I actually like to come here :) to read people's "OT" takes as much as the UM football & basketball news. Obviously some here lean right; seemingly more lean left - to varying degrees... but the dialogue is (generally) worthwhile.

I think that, as long as you have basis for truth informing what you believe, being aware of different perspectives can really help you from being as easily manipulated.

Mods... Honestly, this doesn…

Mods... Honestly, this doesn't look like egregious "Covid disinformation" at all... Rickett88 just reiterated what the Yahoo Sports article stated:

California University of Pennsylvania defensive lineman Jamain Stephens Jr. died from a blood clot in his heart after he contracted COVID-19.

Stephens’ high school initially announced that he had died of COVID-19 complications but later retracted that statement and said it hadn’t gotten official confirmation of the cause of his death.

He did link the article, and didn't draw any outlandish conclusions, as far as I can see.

Obviously you all are the mod(s), not me - but I'd think there's a difference between drawing a different conclusion with the available facts vs. intentionally spreading "disinformation"

Really well thought-out analysis; thanks for the great contribution! FWIW, I think I'm in complete agreement.

Barring major impacts from COVID/injuries, I think your 6-2 outcome is most likely, followed by 5-3.

I'd be mildly disappointed with 5-3, happy with 6-2. (I guess also just "happy" with 7-1; since it's hard to be "ecstatic" while losing another one to you-know-who.... trade loss to them for loss to literally anyone else, then I'm "ecstatic", for sure!)

That's so messed up, how do you go from B2B MNCs to 1-7???

MGoBlog must have burnt down that season...

I doubt there are more than a dozen people that read this site, that actually care to read a word you type anymore.

FWIW, I appreciate NittanyFan's contributions and (typically) his (I think-?) demeanor... Yeah, he's seemingly typically a minority opinion on a board full of frenemies at best; but I think he adds to the discussion and is rarely if ever prone to incendiary rhetoric.

I know, that means 11 to go, right...? :)  maybe more if we're weighted by points... oh well... just wanted to speak out in favor of reasoned dialouge

Thanks, OP!
In the midst of…

Thanks, OP!

In the midst of continued polarization and discord around race and a host of other issues, it is encouraging to have a day to be reminded of how far we've come, and that hope is not lost for progress.

I'm not advocating that we "rest on our laurels"; but optimism fuels momentum!

Yes, 100% agree with this…

Yes, 100% agree with this... In general, put the players in the best spots to maximize their individual talent, and adjust scheme around that, as long as you're not talking about wholesale changes to the defense.

Does this mean that we just…

Does this mean that we just need to find a football team that's much more sincere?

Wait, are you telling me ohio st is "sincere" now...? Is being sincere even desirable, then...?

I'm experiencing an existential crisis here, people

But it probably has to start…

But it probably has to start with

- Admitting the virus is not a hoax

- Admitting that sometimes, all of us will have to do things to get past it (like wear a mask)

I'm not sure we can get consensus on these things, alas.

Not trying to pick nits here, but this may depend on what you mean by "consensus".

Taken to mean "unanimity", you're almost certainly right; but if you mean "general agreement by most" or something similar, I think we're mostly there.

I'm very conservative, and I know a good deal of conservatives. (Unfortunately we haven't stopped breeding, lulz!)

I don't know anyone who doesn't admit that the virus is real; and I literally don't know anyone who won't wear a mask when it's required (i.e., when entering a store), or when around anyone else who would prefer that we do wear masks. Everyone I go to church with, etc., does this!

We're all willing to do what we can to help stop the spread, and to help others feel safe; even if we personally think it's kind of an overblown threat. (Yes, admittedly, we do; but that's our opinion, and doesn't force our public behavior.)

I'm not attacking here; but I just mention this bc I see a LOT of rhetoric that there are all these people (35% or whatever) who won't agree. I'm sure that there are small pockets of these people who are among us (and who are not currently involved in trying to kidnap politicians :) ...)

But srsly, we DO have general consensus; and even if our personal views differ, I'd love us to come together and not demonize the "other side"...

@Swayze, just to clarify, I'm not trying to accuse you personally of "demonizing" anyone... but this and other messages throughout this thread (and many other MGoBlog threads) just compels me to share my own lived experience of where I and my conservative friends are at these days...

I played HS football at a…

I played HS football at a small upstate NY high school in 1989 - 1992. I guess I didn't realize how forward-looking my coaches were at the time, because they drilled into us that we should hit with the shoulder and wrap-up... never lead with the head.

I remember getting criticized/somewhat mocked by other kids in bigger programs for "tackling wrong"; and being a bit embarrassed about it at the time; but I always did what coaches said and never lead with head... so thanks to them!

Ironically, right now i view the airlines and the cruises as probably the best investments, as they are the only sectors undervalued based on when the economy opens again.  But the risk -can they stay aloft and afloat until everything opens?

FIFY :)

Co-sign all of the above!…

Co-sign all of the above! Unless you have the time, the knowledge, and enough need to justify the risk of market-timing; this is the best bet for most folks (including myself).

To be fair, I know a few people who have generated some overall very nice returns with smart day-trading; but you really have to know what you're doing, be well-informed, and well... fortunate.

Whatever you do, don't pay for a "manager-of-managers" fund... I used to work for a company that specialized in that; that's a horrible investment IMO.

I’m in my 30’s and feel bad for recent graduates trying to start their independent lives now as they have it harder than I did.

Meh... statistically…

Meh... statistically speaking, I only give this prognostication a 50% chance of holding true this year...

100% agree!

It's of course…

100% agree!

It's of course impossible to foresee every variable; but I would hope that we can learn from this, and implement more effective measures in some sort of bi-partisan way. (Yes, I know... I live in Utopiaville...)

Sure, but when one of the…

Sure, but when one of the branches purposely ignores the wishes of the voters for years (these districts were drawn in 2010 and people have been voting differently that what is represented in the legislature for 10 years), that shouldn't be waved aside with "they are the districts".

Serious question, aren't the districts only re-drawn every 10 years after the US Census?

Or; are you saying that the 2010 districts didn't actually inform voting in MI until recently? In any case, do they now? (I tried to look this up a bit; but as a PA resident I do confess my ignorance on this topic.)

I would as well! That said,…

I would as well! That said, I would still wear a mask in that case, even though I personally am not in any way concerned about contracting the virus...

I still want to be careful that I don't present a risk to others, particularly those with potential comorbidities... and even though I'd think that high-risk individuals (and their loved ones who interact closely with them) would probably eschew attending a game at the Big House; I'd still try to do my part to ally concern.

In Chester County,…

In Chester County, Pennsylvania, the mayors of various towns are making their own penalties (or not) for lack of mask-wearing. (Yes, there is a state-wide mask decree by Gov. Wolf; but even individual towns are varying enforcement.)

Yes, it certainly can be more confusing & have the possibility to catch folks off-guard; but ultimately I think I'm OK with this; with more power at the local levels... and most municipalities/counties that I've heard of are specifying with each change in the orders that offenders will be warned for first violation before being fined.

Even though I'm ultimately not as convinced that masks are as effective on a macro level as many are; I've been wearing one when in public places (like all stores, etc.) or even partially public places (like church services) where I'm not absolutely sure that everyone in my company is comfortable without one... same applies to private events, too.

It seems to have been a very workable approach even for someone like me who personally really doesn't like mask-wearing.

So sorry for your loss, rob…

So sorry for your loss, rob f; and for your aunt and family as well!

I hope & pray that you can spend quality time remembering him with your loved ones; and hopefully find some peace and love amid the sadness this weekend.

Thanks for taking the time…

Thanks for taking the time to give your rationale on this, Seth - I recognize that you don't have to; and it means a good deal that you have.

Full disclosure, I'm generally more aligned with those who do NOT think that WD should have been banned (while recognizing that his actions definitely contributed to the decision)... but that said, I obviously don't understand the extent of how much he was warned; what conversations looked like, etc.

I have to admit that I'm in favor extending a lot of grace, particularly toward folks like him who took a ton of what I would view as unnecessary abuse (and not of the "joking" sort) from many on the board (not you all, but others).

I genuinely feel bad for him; although he definitely didn't handle this well... and I know that you guys get a ton of abuse, too.

FWIW, (maybe not much considering my almost exclusive lurking-only history), I'd ask that you perhaps reconsider talking to him with an advocate to see the relationship can be repaired, and if so, consider reinstating him with his points.

Again, though, not minimizing your take on this either; and of course it's your blog... just thought I'd put my thoughts for food (since everyone was clamoring for me to opine, I know! :) )

And I genuinely hope you did have a blessed Yom Kippur!

We probably disagree on…

We probably disagree on quite a bit, NittanyFan, but I just wanted to say that I appreciate your patient, logical, measured, and above all transparent responses; both in this thread and over the last several months.

Thanks for your courage, honesty, and reasoned dialogue!

Seth thanks for the background on the server-side code issue, and redirecting our agnst from HUEL.

I wasn't commenting at the time; but IIRC probably felt like it...  so just in case, my apologies to HUEL!

I like all three of the…

I like all three of the above ideas; but the more I read this one, JHumich, the more I really like it!

There are a couple downsides, I suppose; like for example the Little Brown Jug game (or pick any other intra-division matchup) only happening once every...who knows...??? Could be a long time for some match-ups...

But in my mind that's a relatively benign issue, unless you really like the cross-divisional aspect. But keeping the Non-Conference games (needed for revenue) and expanding an actually meaningful "B1G Playoff" would I think create a lot more excitement (and relevance)... good call

Hi Mods,

I hope this is the right place for this question; I looked around for a while and haven't been able to find anything elsewhere on this:

Is the only way to DM people still to e-mail Brian and then have a Mod set it up? Or am I missing something - wanted to check b/c this is from over 8 years ago!

I'll try to check back here; or if there's a way for you to DM me, then please do that... and thanks in advance... Go Blue!

Amazing post, @XM, you've…

Amazing post, @XM, you've captured the essence of it all! Here's hoping for an amazing autumnal kick-off for XMJR tonight!

And congratulations, @Robf - you deserve a drink or three on us after the past couple months!

My "glass half-full"…

My "glass half-full" personality says that this seems right...

If it turns out that Milton's not as ready as we hoped... well... it's not too late for the B1G to change course on cancelling the season again, right...?

This is probably just…

This is probably just wishful thinking due to a slew of bad news... but srlsy, wouldn't 2020 be the year for Michigan to just start paying players and tell the NCAA to go pound sand?

We need to level the playing field... this year has a giant asterisk anyway... and so many people are occupied with so many more important things that this wouldn't really have an opportunity to become that much of a scandal and occupy news cycles (thank you COVID & politics!)

IMO time to just "rip off the band-aid" and deal with the consequences, if any!

FWIW, I think Don's idea is…

FWIW, I think Don's idea is great - I could really get on board with this... er, so to speak...
