is a "W" any way you look at it. Just like in golf...the scorecard has no place for description, just a number. Hail to brunettes and the victors. The beach is good but not worth hailing.
HUGE factor is the seletion method. Isn't a mathematical formula (like what the BCS used) better than 4 guys trying to pick the 4 best teams? Realistically, what human has absolutely no agenda? Or can be entirely unbiased?
Particularly Bulleit Rye, is great stuff. Have been drinking it for about a year. Best rye I have tried. Go crazy and try white whiskey. Unaged, no or very little barrel time. Current favorite is Pritchard's Tennessee White Lightning Corn Whiskey. 90 proof and very sippable.
Well said. I tingled when I read this as I feel the same way. And I was in the stands as a student for Bo's first game as a Wolverine in '68 (I think). And I was in the stands for the "Horror" while my daughter was in the student section shedding tears. I'm still tingling today. I'm also having a serious cocktail out of continuing joy as opposed to despair.
His possible hiring will be the end of Urban Meyer. He was fried mentally as well as physically when he left Florida (I have lived in Florida for the last 27 years and was able to follow it closely) and when he jumps into the Ohio State frying pan it will put him over the edge before too long. He also brings plenty of baggage with him regarding the number of arrests under his watch and his well known desire to lower admission standards for his recruits. He reportedly asked Notre Dame to allow him just one questionable recruit per year and when they refused he knew he couldn't take that job.
That was great stuff. After reading Three and Out, I agree that RR did get a raw deal from the administration but you're right that he "didn't get it". He couldn't put any of the ingredients together properly to cook up a defense even though the recipe is obvious to any coach...so he would not have achieved the success Brady Hoke has this year. But I was in his corner in spite of taking shit from most of my class of '71 mates so I wish him well.
I agree 100 %. Remember your own pre-season predictions even though it's difficult not to get caught up in all the early season winning hype. We did NOT think of ourselves realistically competing for a Big Ten Championship so let's get real. We are doing BETTER than expected.
Simple, let Denard be Denard. He was trying so hard to be Borges style while sitting back in the pocket that he gave up so many easy running lanes. The announcers kept repeating this. Just make a quick checkdown (maybe even just your first choice) and if not open...run like nobody else can. The most dangerous play for a defense to defend is the broken play with a great running quarterback.
consider this. We are not near ready to play Bama. Unfortunately we are scheduled to play them too soon as it is. We need two more years. But then Denard will be gone to be semi-replaced by Devin, Shane Morris? Stay positive my friends.
needs to be quarterback. Did you listen to Urban Meyer's commentary. The guy knows his football (maybe not his family and career) but he knows his football. He said repeatedly while questioning some of Borges's play calling, "why would you take one of the most talented football players in college football out of the game?" Or, something to that effect. I agree. He needs to be our quarterback until he is injured and cannot perform or the game has been put out of reach (with us winning handily).
played when I was a student. Incredible NT. Stood next to him while buying beer at Campus Corners and he was no more than 5'9' or 5'10 but his shoulders were so wide I thought I might be hallucinating (which could have been considering it was 1969 or 1970). No fat either.
Got to assume Hoke investigated thoroughly and found enough to justify getting rid of this piece of garbage. If you have a daughter or sister think about this.
Newt was a real dynamo. More energy then any of the team. I was on the gymnastics team in '67-'68 and enjoyed his coaching. He was really quite a character...in a good way.
that Denard made last summer foreshadows the progress he will make this summer. His dedication and talent will enable him to teach himself more of the new offense than we currently think and he will drag his roommate Devin along with him. This will be enough to get us to 8-4 minimum if the team just stays relatively healthy. Just the new attitude from the coaching change on defense will be worth some points.
because I really didn't know this is how it is done. That's one of the things I really enjoy about mgoblog...I learn some football. And this tells me it is NOT always rocket science but simply well directed athleticism.
over the summer as witnessed by Denard's progress last summer. There are 3 months before the real practice begins so 4 months in all. If they put their noses to the grindstone and get inspired by the upperclassmen (leaders and best) they can make our current speculation look like we are just jerking our chains...or not. Let's just forget about that "or not". We're done with that shit.
Well thought out. But I question the readiness of T-Wolf and Floyd after these major injuries. How much of their "stuff" will they lose? Avery is probably ready to step in and start but will Countess and Brown be ready if needed?
everyone because he is an extraordinary talent in every way. He has learned some of what he needs to learn in Spring practice and will practice his ass off this summer along with his roommate Devin. His leadership by inspiration and doing will bring everyone else up towards (but obviously not quite at) his level. How he progressed last summer is an indication of how he will progress this summer. I am not worried. I am fucking done worrying. Let our opponents start to worry.
how good Devin will be. I don't feel all that confident that he is a given for the two years following Denard. I sincerely hope I'm wrong and that he will be the man but we haven't seen nearly enough to know.
I sat behind Mandich in Spanish class either my freshman or sophomore year in Ann Arbor. Just a regular guy, no attitude. That picture of the '69 game gave me chills. If it was in The Big House, I was there. If in Columbus, I saw it on TV. Either way (loss of memory cells) I did see it and it was fucking huge...and Mandich was really something. I now live in South Florida and they think the world of him down here.
WTF? Who gives a shit about this guy? Does this have anything to do with Michigan athletics? Even silliness or beating the dead horse known as RR is better than this.
Enjoyable and informative. No rocket science statistics or advanced football teminology...just here's what it ought to look like and here's what it currently does look like.
in a wonderful diary some months ago by an easy to understand ....chart. It showed how the best teams had the highest percentage of upperclassmen on defense. The Wolverines averaged more than a FULL YEAR YOUNGER than the best teams.
there were the same doubts about Tresell when he was hired by Ohio State. He proved the doubters wrong by alot. Brady Hoke has the opportunity to do the same and nobody can doubt his desire.
way too much realism. How can you enjoy being a fan without the feeling that "maybe it's just around the corner." I was in The Big House as a student for Bo's first season and I was in The Big House with my daughter as a student for The Horror and I will always think that "maybe it's just around the corner." It's the hope and joy of being a true fan....Or someone that needs to be locked up for their own good.
that Bo had high end NFL talent when he first arrived. I remember a few: Jim Mandich, Dan Deirdorf, Reggie McKenzie, Glen Doughty. I'm sure there were more. Who did Rich Rod have when he arrived. Give him a little more time.
May NOT be the problem you think he is. I hear that the 3-3-5 (or whatever you want to call it) is RichRod's scheme and he has directed GERG to run it. GERG is doing the best he can with the limited amount of depth he has to work with.
Became important to me the first time I set foot in "The Big House" my freshman year 1967. It became EXTREMELY important to me during Bo's first year. It became INSANELY important to me the year my daughter enrolled at Michigan, 2005, and began drinking the same kool-aid as I did. Well, not exactly the same kool-aid, thank God (think the late 60's) But my passion for the Wolverines increased geometrically the moment my daughter set foot on campus. We both bleed Maize and Blue.
Great idea. I can't believe M Den doesn't have this going already. You probably will (or Tin Cup will) encounter some licensing issues regarding Michigan artwork but good luck and pass it on to M Den.
I listened to this game on radio while living in Chgo. Yes, fucking radio as unbelieveable as it seems. As I remember it now, the experience was actually intensified by not having any visual stimulation only auditory. I guess that's what it must have been like for past generations of sports fans sitting by the radio before TV was invented. I can only tell you that my central nervous system felt like it was jumping out of my skin and it felt "Great to be a Michigan Wolverine".
For many years Ann Arbor had a restaurant named the Pretzel Bell located on the site of what is now the Champion House. It had loads of great sports memorabilia covering the walls. It was a true tribute to Wolverine sports history. No professional sports or celebrity bullshit. Good food and drink. Can't believe it's gone.
It is 43 fucking years. Please allow me a brain spasm...I was there in the late 60's so you can imagine what may have happened to my brain then...along with witnessing the beginning of Bo's career... and since... I was at The Big House for the horror.
Is not a done deal yet. It ain't over till it's over. And if it's over we will live with it. I've lived with 33 years (freshman in '67) of heartbreaks and thrills and I promise you this is extremely minor on the heartbreak scale if it indeed does happen.
I live in South Florida and "The U" football is highly respected but it is an urban campus and the stadium is nowhere near campus. Being a Wolverine alum and Michigan Dad, there is no place that really rivals Michigan for a large college experience. Think....walking to The Big House from campus to a game. It's enough to get your testicles tingling.

Thank you for the definition.
What is BPA?

As we have learned from Hoke. Good competition only makes you better.
I don't see any hard evidence of this being the case. I'll believe all those well deserved sanctions when I they happen...and I'll be celebrating too.

there are 5 more games to go. More time to coach him up, get some more reps an learn. Never give up hope!

My sentiments exactly without the two "likes".
6-6 would suck. I'm with Brady Hoke 100% and believe he is doing and saying all the right things but don't tell me 6-6 would not be controversial.

Great last paragraph. This really says it all.
I'm just sitting here grinning like I can't remember when.

about... "we will never know if the system would have worked here..." is one of the best I have ever read on this blog.

Someone or sometwo or maybe even (come one walkons) somethree will just have to step up. It may be unlikely but not impossible.
Go Blue!
Okay. So how does one MGoPaint a golf ball? Or is my chain getting jerked?
Is 4 years.
What exactly is MGoPaint?
