I do not think it is…

I do not think it is melodramatic to claim we will never see a team like this again, maybe in all of college football. The way they play for eachother is inspiring. They had so many guys come back, so many guys stay, a player lead championship team. The expansion of the conference and the playoff, prolific NIL money, and transfer portal all push the game (rightfully) toward a professional league.

I am so happy my kids (10/8) got to watch this team go out and do it. Never gave up and beat everyone. Feels like so many things came together at once and they truly were a team of destiny.

Go blue!

I could hear the big plays…

I could hear the big plays from my house up on the NW side of A2 off Sunset. I’m sure part of that was the leaves being down, but I’ve never heard cheering up here before. It was awesome when I was outside and heard the stadium.

I’ll own that I was on the …

I’ll own that I was on the “burn it all down” train after MSU. They roped me back in against PSU and I vowed to remain optimistic today until they gave me a reason not to be. They never really did. This was a total win on one of the biggest stages UM and The Game have ever been on. The o line this year has just been fucking nuts. I underestimated how good they were. They carried the day (with Haskins).

I read through the stat line and didn’t see any, but did Haskins (or UM for that matter) have any runs for a loss today (aside from victory formation)? I don’t remember any beyond one or two stops at LoS, but no losses. That’s insane.

Whatever Michigan and HARBAUGH did this year is it, man. My 6 and 7 y.o. were jumping around screaming with me and it’s a moment I’ll remember forever.

I don’t buy into that ifs…

I don’t buy into the ifs and buts game. The whole game would be different (no 2 point conversions for one, no sitting on the ball at the end, etc.). Michigan lost this football game as much as State won it. The bad calls were egregious but they still 100% had this game in hand. The *is* of this game was another massive Michigan collapse against a rival on the big stage.

I’m not gonna argue because I’m apathetic and going to watch a neighborhood Halloween movie with my kids. This was a classic Michigan collapse under Harbaugh. It was unique in nearly no way.

They were up 30-14 and had…

They were up 30-14 and had state 4th and 4 more than halfway through the third and promptly collapsed into what can only be considered a singularity of ineptitude. They had gotten past some blown calls and then they did literally what they always do: Lose a big game.

Michigan, making (opponents’…

Michigan, making (opponents’) dreams come true for the last 20 odd years.

“Simply put, Rutgers'…

Simply put, Rutgers' coaching staff thoroughly outcoached Michigan's in the second half.”

Harbaugh’s tenure couldn’t be summarized in a more concise and accurate fashion.

How exactly is 3-3 vs State…

How exactly is 3-3 vs State including one of the worst L’s in recent memory to first year Mel Tucker with a HS team getting “the state back”?

Moving forward, I guess we can all optimistically look forward to maybe having an up year where we have a close game with OSU and a coin flip on the MSU game. ?? Leaders and best.

(No subject)

I’m checked out. Watched a couple minutes in the 2Q. Won’t watch again this season. Oh well.

I’m actually impressed at how little coaching appears to be occurring (preseason, in season, in game). Doesn’t matter if you have a new name in mind when no one on this team looks like they wanna be here. Sometimes you just have to cut bait.

I am back to levels of…

I am back to levels of apathy and excitement I had at the end of the RichRod era. I probably won’t watch a game until the OSU game - and I honestly may wait until after the first quarter and completely wave off on that one as well.

the worst part is it doesn’t really seem like any players or coaches really care that they’re getting their teeth kicked. Disappointing, but the last week also put football in general in perspective. Just not that important.

Hope that’s what Ward wants to hear from fans.

That was my takeaway: they…

That was my takeaway: they had no clear game plan for either side of the ball, except run it up the middle I guess?

They repeatedly went AWAY from what was giving them success on offense. And our corner play ... wtf. The game watched like a 2 TD win by State. It never felt that close after the wildcat fiasco.

I stand by my comment to my buddies that Harbaugh’s stasis is 8 win season mode these days. I don’t see the passion from him or the players he coaches. I don’t have expectations for this season but they didn’t look like they wanted to play football today.

Correction: I have one expectation for this season: getting nuked from orbit by OSU. We’re tracking that goal well by the looks of it.

I choose to leave the holier…

I choose to leave the holier than thou excuses. Michigan hires recruits' parents, over signs, pushes the NCAA on satellite camps, the academic "integrity" for athletes is not a solid hill to die on. Michigan may do it better, but we're not squeaky clean. It's a null argument anyway. Even an immaculate program with the brand recognition and facilities available that Michigan has should be able to piece together enough student athletes to keep it competitive with OSU and pick off a couple wins out of ten.

The last two years were out-of-this-world bad losses and there nothing excusable about it. It's not just the score, it how they've looked, the tone of the game, the petty crap, the mistakes. The Michigan FOOTBALL program (all of it) has been a tier below OSU the last two seasons.

I mean, Fields’ RPO…

I mean, Fields’ option decisions were happening past the LOS a lot of the time. That’s how bad they blew up our depleted interior DL. With that kind of freedom (5 ypc nearly guaranteed), a win wasn’t feasible.

That doesn’t excuse an ass beating at home though. I’m not sure what the direction is from here. There are no good choices or bright horizons.

Well that was rather nice…

Well that was rather nice. They are answering some soul searching questions right now - and impressively. I could never have predicted this bludgeoning.

Onward and upward. Go Blue.

Last week had me panic brake…

Last week had me panic brake on the team, this has me off the brakes, but in neutral. Iowa will give us some answers, and I think it’s a must win to salvage this season. I never know what to expect with Iowa other than them playing to the level of their competition.

Michigan earned a watch from me next week.

I more meant during the game…

I more meant getting popped during the game and not responding well (2015 OSU, 2017 State, 2017 PSU, 2017 Wisky, 2017 OSU (meh), then the streak starting with 2018 OSU to now).

They don't win close games with good teams.

That's an ok response to the…

That's an ok response to the Army game, but the Wisconsin loss was historically bad. Being over-hyped doesn't counterbalance that ass-beating. Being over-hyped doesn't negate repeatedly failing the eye test either (fumbles, QB play, fumbles, defense out of position, fumbles, etc., fumbles).

I mean, I've come to find…

I mean, I've come to find more and more often that Occam's Razor holds true for this program.

Maybe we're just not that good. No other assumptions needed. The implications of that are farther reaching, but this isn't a team with a wheel off the road, they're upside down in the ditch.

I could argue 7-5 as the ceiling (losses to OSU, PSU, Iowa, ND), but I could see a bad game or two putting this into 'oh shit' territory like 6-6 or worse. There are 4 wins left on the schedule, that's all I can say with confidence.

I'm sure I have recency bias, but I just don't remember a Harbaugh team taking a punch to the face and responding. Those games usually do not go well.

Urban Meyer Bane’d UofM and…

Urban Meyer Bane’d UofM and I bet that’s his favorite feather he’s ever added to his hat. Hopefully this staff gets its shit together in the off-season and figures out how they lost this team.

This offense needs a rebake. Defense I’ll attribute to one bad game and attrition in this game.

Wow, the trolls really came…

Wow, the trolls really came out for this one. What did anyone expect with so many players out of the game. It played out exactly as I expected (and I blame coaching):

Shallow defense broke down in the second half since depth and key starters were out.

Offense was predictable and easily sniffed out. Patterson had to be elite to keep us in the game. He was not.

Poor game management has become a staple of JH’s tenure thus far.

I said it earlier, but I don’t have any issue with players sitting out, life changing money awaits them. However, as a fan, it made me not care, and honest to God, forgot the game was even on until around kick off.

I personally don’t take…

I personally don’t take issue with players sitting out ball games, for them, it makes all the sense in the world and I do not hold it against them at all. They worked their entire lives for a shot at the NFL.

For me, as a fan, it makes me indifferent to the game and the team. That’s worse than anger, cause it means I don’t care.

I didn’t even know the game was on yesterday until an hour before kickoff. Apparently I wasn’t the only one.

WTF, hell yes!

Was it the…

WTF, hell yes!

Was it the DBrown interview at Temple that shook him?

At least we have basketball …

At least we have basketball ... (limp high five)

Ugh, Wagner? You know, last…

Ugh, Wagner? You know, last year?

I mean, Wagner somehow not quite as refined, but he brought unmatched energy to this team.

Oh my God, I need this team…

Oh my God, I need this team. I don't even remember the last time we've had a team that is playing together this well this early. I'm tempering my excitement FOR OBVIOUS REASONS, but dear lord, these guys look great and have fun.

"Roy Williams said afterward that he was as frustrated as he has ever been in his 31 years as a head coach."

JB, I think I love you.

Go Blue.

Not to pile on

But how tone deaf is MSU and the administration? The entire situation and their response has been almost 180 degrees off from the correct one.

They still don't. get. it.

Her resignation statement mentioned herself in the first sentence. No one is taking any accountability at all. I'm on the fence on whether the Athletic Department should be detonated, but they need to buckle up and get ready to start sending a lot of people packing.

It's surreal to read Nassar's letter to the judge and Simon's resignation letter. He's a psychopath, so I'm not shocked, but man, someone at MSU needs to take the lead and start saying and doing the right things.

Switching gears, I love what Beilein has done here at U of M. He has a program that is vastly overshadowed by the football team, faces uphill recruiting battles, and has come to routinely build teams that punch above their weight class. He also builds genuinely likeable teams, and from all I can see, does it the right way.

This is a fun team to watch, and I think they have a high ceiling in the tourney. I hope they get hot again in the B1G tourney.

Where are your goalposts? 3rd

Where are your goalposts? 3rd place in the B1G East? People are deservedly upset with this team and Harbaugh's (lack of) success thus far. I don't condone being vicious about it and any personal attacks, but fans have a right to question where the program is headed.

People can still support a program and criticize what amounted to a down year and brutal bowl game. There were significant coaching mistakes made yesterday (TE fumble, overly aggressive defense 2nd half, odd TO usage, end of game, etc).

Is middling the B1G great? If

Is middling the B1G great? If so, then yes. If our measure of our success is finishing 3rd in our respective division, then we've been great 2/3 years.

I don't think there's

I don't think there's anything to be rabid about. The team went out and did pretty much what the majority of sane fans expected, 8-5. Florida ended up being bad, and MSU bounced back this year. The rest of the chips fell as they should.

I'll give you the loss to SC, but in reality, it was the same problems we saw all year (besides FG kicking) that accumulated in one game. Combined with a RS Freshman starting in his 5th game, you're gonna have a bad time.

We scored 9 TD passes in a 13

We scored 9 TD passes in a 13 game season. The problems are not Earth shattering and confidence shaking.

We need better QB play. I know the line wasn't great, but they held it together later in the season, Peters lacks field vision and locks into his first target all day yesterday.

You get decent QB play, it changes the entire season. We're bringing in a kid with some talent, receivers will be a year older, and Black comes back.

The sky is not falling (yet).

After having kids, my

After having kids, my attention to sports in general waned significantly. I don't find myself getting upset anymore. In college, I would have been throwing stuff at the TV and it would have ruined my week. I have buddies still like that.

At the end of the day, it's a game. There's still a lot of good things you can take away from this team. The defense was pretty darn good given their youth. This is a clean program from all accounts (on/off the field). It's probably my blue lenses, but I always see the other teams getting chippier on the field (SC was dirty as hell yesterday).

I truly feel that Michigan is a solid QB (who is most importantly a good leader) away from being a contender. Go Blue, basketball team looks solid this year too.

I don't see the fire in this

I don't see the fire in this team anymore. No one gets upset when they make disastrous mistakes (even from the top). Defense may be ok on the leadership end, but this offense is a trainwreck.

It reminds me of the 3-9 MSU team that had widespread rumors of fracturing among the team and no leader to circle the wagons. It's very often the QB, but sometimes you have a guy that throws the team on his shoulders. I don't see that player in this offense. I hope Black or Patterson, or even Gary/Bush brings some passion with them to get this team to play up.

Less/no more melancholy hung heads out there. Perform. Be accountable. Win football games.

That did not look like a team That did not look like a team that wanted to play a football game today. That was a sad and disappointing end to a mediocre season. Seems like they got severely out coached today as well. Hopefully they have a motivated offseason. Lots of talent here next year.
Disappointing end befitting Disappointing end befitting of the season. That was a hard watch and they need to pull everyone together over the offseason. Just too many mistakes to beat a team they were clearly more talented than. The turnovers and defensive collapse were a little disconcerting. On to next year!
I don't have your resume, but

I don't have your resume, but he high points the ball really well and looks like he can make great cuts. With polishing, he should be able to run some sharp routes (which was a bit lacking this year). We need the guys that can get some space in the 5-10 yd range, not these 5 step drops every time.

I don't know, he put some

I don't know, he put some space between himself and the CBs and FSs he was running from. Plus he looks like he can make some great cuts (which will translate into precise routes with the right coaching).

Solid looking kid

Great hands, good ups. Catches the ball at it's highest point. Lays out at the right time. I see a lot to like.

Glad to see the team respond Glad to see the team respond after losing that lead to OSU. Great win from down 15.
I'm not up or down on

I'm not up or down on anything other than that State game this year was a bad loss. Anyone who argues otherwise is wrong, State sat on the ball with the lead. I won't entertain excuses personally for other games, but I understand the sentiment.

As far as next year, I'm optimistic, but in the end, win football games.

Dantonio won 11+ at STATE 5/6 years from 2010-2015. That was a slightly different time, but they still won those games. My expectation is 10+ moving forward, 9 is a rebuild year.

Find a way to win, it doesn't have to be pretty every week.

Agreed. A loss to a rival in

Agreed. A loss to a rival in the division is effectively 2 losses when you're all competing for a championship.

Yea, everyone conveniently

Yea, everyone conveniently leaves out the woodchipper behind the cabin we have in 2018.

@ ND

@ NW (not a snoozer)

@ MSU

@ OSU

Oh, and don't sleep cause we're bringing in PSU and Wisky.

Guys, this will be a top 10 schedule next year.

We're losing our two best OL.

We're losing our two best OL. That's at least enough to raise some concern for next year. I think most of the offensive deflation has been OL play. Peters has looked average+ in his play this year, could see him being good with a decent line. Same with the platoon of RBs.

Competitive?

By what specific measures has this offense been "competitive?" Running some yards against 3 bottom of the conference teams? This offense melts against average to good defenses.

Our defense has done enough to win 8 games, I'd give the offense like 15% credit if that.

Expensive. We are all but average there.
Everyone is praising those Everyone is praising those needle threads. In a decent secondary the corner turns his head on the one handed grab and the safety turns his on the post TD and PICKS IT OFF.
That hit on Peters was pretty That hit on Peters was pretty skanky. The initial contact was ok around the waist, but the lift and drive down followed by repeatedly driving him into the turf was shitty. A normal wrap and tackle leaves him likely fine. We lost this game for than Wisky won it. Dropped balls and bad calls, but you always get home cooking. We may be looking at a buzz saw next week if Peters is out.
Of course, first start Of course, first start against a rival with known weather incoming. Followed by tough Indiana team (always) on the road and an almost guaranteed beat down by PSU. Yea, that'd have been neat-o for the first 3 games of a RS freshman. Real confidence builder for a kid. Don't anoint Peters savior yet either. He'll need to advance and develop over the coming weeks to avoid stompings at the hands of Wisky or OSU.
I get Peters will have growing pains

But it's hard to argue that he shouldn't be playing moving forward. I reserve judgement until after Minnie. I'm assuming he'll start until then.

You guys ought to dig in on

You guys ought to dig in on this piece for more details. This sounds wreckless and incompetent at best.

Apparently Speight had HORRIFIC medical care at Purdue.

Off topic

Did anyone catch that Deadspin piece on how terrible Wilton Speight's medical attention was at Purdue? It's almost hard to read by anyone with vague knowledge of medical care and standards.

It's shameful the entirety. Read it if you want a reason to hate Purdue.
