Kobe examples were different…

Kobe examples were different.  He was an asshole that brought others on his team down.  And don’t forget he’s also a rapist no matter how much he had to pay to claim otherwise.

True, but its relative. …

True, but its relative.  German cars are expensive to maintain. Still like the Audi for AWD.

Sure Porsche, Subaru, and…

Sure Porsche, is first and Lamborghini was the first supercar and GM made the first EV.  Your Porsche is a huge money pit and Subaru, a great car, has unfortunately gone the way of the fiat in the 80s/90s.  Not sure you want either in the UP.

So glad I avoided the Cayenne.  Super fun to drive but what a waste of money (upfront, gas, and maintenance).

I noticed you’re all in on…

I noticed you’re all in on diesel, so you’ll probably stick with it.  There are good reasons to switch though.

I would recommend you consider a Q series instead of the A. Stepping down from a truck to a car is a big jump down in room.  Consider one of the crossovers instead.

I have an audi.  They have…

He is not going to act…

He is not going to act impulsively, unlike some of the fans, and shoot first, ask questions later. He will act rationally.  That’s the only reason he was able to keep Harbaugh around the last three years.

Wow that’s a great story victor2000.  Hadn’t heard that.  Where did you find that?

Edit: found it from last year’s final four.  It’s a great story.  https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/dusty-may-wanted-to-quit-hours-after-signing-fau-contract-now-hes-coached-owls-to-improbable-final-four-run/

Perfect answer to my…

Perfect answer to my original question.  Thanks Bronxblue. And thanks for actually reading my question.  You deserve multiple upvotes.

I am not criticizing him. It…

I am not criticizing him. It’s a question.  Coaches can win at small programs by only getting some better players to switch.  Especially now with the portal.

Beilein was known as a master tactician. Basketball people on here might have watched Dusty’s games and could see how much might be coaching.  Some of the other coaches were known for their offensive or defensive tactics and philosophies.  I didn’t find anything on May.  Just asking.

He may be a great coach. But…

He may be a great coach. But with this small sample size, how much was coaching and how much was the players he had last year and this year (same team) compared to all his other years?

Edit: I am just asking the question.  He has winning seasons yes.  But I was looking for coaching ability insights which Bronxblue answered below.

I won my first office pool…

I won my first office pool bracket ever back when Danny Manning and Kansas beat Oklahoma in an unpredictable fashion. I had an early lead, but only won in the tiebreaker, when Kansas upset a team known for high scoring games by running up the score

I was immediately an expert bracket picker.

Every bracket since then, has been a dismal failure.

No brackets this year

And iff you look at the full…

And if you look at the full body of work, failure doesn’t apply either.  He was the BIG & national coach of the year. He got to the elite 8 & sweet 16.  He was let go after a terrible year and a bad couple of years with little hope for a turn around.

The Daily headline is sensationalist and classless. Failure doesn’t apply and it’s an insult to the Fab Five.  I would downvote the headline but I am not going to downvote the user who created this post.

He is following a successful…

He is trying to follow what surprisingly has become a successful strategy, and now much more popular as established over the last 7 years, that if you repeat something over and over again it eventually becomes true.

You are clearly a judgmental…

You are clearly a judgmental person. Your anecdotal situation is not universal.

What I described is common and well known psychologically.  Not just for relationships but politically and more.

If two people in a relationship are self aware enough to be able to be above this then that is great.  That takes introspection and vulnerability.  If you have that great.

But people make decisions and then look for evidence to support their decisions and ignore the evidence that refutes their decisions.  This happens in love, politics, and more.  Just because you don’t fall into that category doesn’t make your situation universal.  This has nothing to do with me personally. Don’t be a judgmental…

The love hate thing is true…

The love hate thing is true.  Your GF or wife loves every little thing you do and vice versa. But then something triggers the cognitive dissonance in the opposite direction and the mind (the GF or BF) looks at every little thing (those same exact things) as support for why their partner is annoying.  Same with politics.

Never heard of “Ask a Manager”

It was more likely the…

It was more likely the culture which, from reports, had favoritism and anger issues. The evidence is there.  If you are in that culture, and it’s coming from leadership, you’re going to be looking around silently shaking your head.

Culture issues have more of an impact the longer they exist.  Year one was zero impact and his sons weren’t there yet.  Year two would have only been a minor impact.  It’s hard to coach your kids. But that wasn’t the only problem.  These reoccurring anger issues were likely to pop up a heck of a lot more inside the program than we can see.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a team or business.  Bring in new leadership with issues like this to a successful business and it takes three years for the thing to start tanking.

Football had the opposite culture.  “No man is more important than the team.  No coach is more important than the team.”

Michigan Man never meant…

Michigan Man never meant Michigan connection. It did mean character and integrity, which is one place where Rich Rod certainly was lacking based on what came out later in his career.

Warde should have assembled…

Warde should have assembled his top three weeks, if not months, ago. You don’t wait until after the firing.  Succession plans should always be in place for when coaches leave and you didn’t anticipate it. That should be a basic function of the AD.  If not then shame on Warde.

Edit: I would assume he has as well.  I was responding to the OP which suggests he would start now making a list

Firing Howard two days after…

Firing Howard two days after the season should be expected.

Up until now, the fire Warde vs Warde is doing a good job behind the scenes points of view are all speculation.

The next step, though, is all within the AD’s scope of responsibility and this is where Warde’s legacy will be made.  If he is a great AD then they would have made a list of their top 3 possible candidates long ago and have a plan to execute a replacement hire in 2-3 weeks.  On the other hand, if the plan is to start a committee and hire a search firm and spend a month shooting blanks then I will join the Fire Warde chorus.

Michigan Man only ever meant…

Michigan Man only ever meant to Bo and people in the building as someone with character and integrity and who is all in on Michigan.  The idea it meant someone with Michigan ties is fan fiction.  I think you are saying the same thing

Frieder left Michigan for…

Frieder left Michigan for more money. That’s it.  He followed his mentor Johnny Orr’s example.  He was offered the ASU job after Gene Keady turned it down and was given 20 min to make a decision.  This was not years of frustration.

Sure, Michigan as a program, including Canham, Chrysler, and Bo as ADs, didn’t feel it had to pay competitive compensation and has since changed.  But Bo, Frieder, Orr, and others were offered more to leave and only Bo didn’t take it.

Frieder only started blaming Bo after Bo died and couldn’t defend himself. And that alone is a week assholish thing to do just because he wanted to change the one blemish on his legacy.

He said at the time in 1989 that he did it for his family (more money and better weather) and that “his reputation will probably suffer for it”.  That’s not a guy who left because of Bo. He left for the money and once Bo was dead he started trying to fix his reputation by throwing the other guy under the bus.

Why do you have a need to…

Why do you have a need to label people as one or the other? That’s one of the problems being discussed here.  Just the suggestion that if someone is labeled a conservative, or liberal, they would be disliked IS the problem. In my experience, when you can get past the labels and the bs and talk about real issues, people find a lot of common ground.  When solutions to those issues are turned into misleading fear-triggering soundbites thats also a problem.

As most have said he is…

As most have said he is mostly a human rights based liberal.  But even his religious based opposition to abortion doesn’t include banning it. There are plenty of people who are against abortion but believe in a woman’s right to choose.  I believe Harbaugh may be in that camp.  And there are plenty of people who attend church every Sunday who are left politically and who are more religious than people who claim to be religious on the right.  So it is always surprising when people want to pigeon hole someone like Harbaugh as a conservative just because he wears his belief in god on his sleeve.

I remember living a block…

I remember living a block away from Detroit street while in school.  It wasn’t so expensive back then and it was just a small little deli.  It sounds like they are everywhere now and the price has quadrupled.  That’s too bad.  The food is still amazing.

I lived in NYC and ordered a reuben at one of the famous delis.  It was garbage compared to Zingermans.

I’ll skip the donuts.  At my age, you eat those things and you turn into a doughnut.

I can see that given his heart attack, being an alum, and as a member of the Fab five, he will get one more year.  I don’t agree but pitchforks aren’t going to change anything

And given the uncertainty, the portal, nil, and more, I don’t see how he can turn things around.

So let’s discuss who can we get a year from now?
