well I finally had way too…

well I finally had way too much to drink and it may be time to go to bed, so my South Harmon Institute of Technology knowledge is all flowing out now.

But I still think the only way to win a lawsuit is to file for voiding Michigan's contract and GOR with the B1G, instead of arguing that the punishment is unfair and getting the punishment thrown out. With the way the Deflategate ruling went I just don't think that's a viable argument. Go scorched earth or go home. We'll see on Friday if the Regents were serious about willing to leave the conference. If not, I think the lawsuit is largely performative.

I think the fact that two…

I think the fact that two things of note were leaked about NCAA finding Harbaugh had no knowledge and Day has no known connection to the PI on the same day was the organization trying to send a message to the B1G and Michigan, respectively. In the former it's telling the B1G that they aren't going to do more than a slap on the wrist, and in the latter telling Michigan to stop airing any really bad dirty laundry.

I also think what was leaked was part of Michigan's legal strategy, and I think the only strategy that could come out with a court win, which is to have a judge declare Michigan's contract with the B1G to be in abyss. From what I read about caselaw, it's tricky to argue what authority an organization has to discipline if the agreement that was signed with them outlining what discipline can be levied is a bit nebulous; however, if contract fraud is to be argued, and the question of equal treatment on punished were to be brought forward as compounding arguments, I think both would have a standing, especially if there was collusion within the ranks of the other members and Michigan entered into the agreement under the assumption of fair play. In other words, can Michigan argue

  1.  that the B1G and its members represented that everything will be fair amongst the members
    • I think this is implied
  2. the above is false
    • if you have members colluding to cheat against Michigan prior to the contract being formed (which was just signed in the summer) so I think that's true
    • Harbaugh is the only one punished under the Sportsmanship clause
    • therefore things are not fair
  3. the liars knew it was false
    • if there was collusion then the liars knew it was false
    • Even if the presidents and ADs didn't know, if Harbaugh is a responsible party for his staff acting on their own accord, then University presidents and ADs must also have the same responsibility for coaches and staff
  4. the liars intended for Michigan to rely on fairness to join in on the conference contract
    • I think this goes without saying
  5. The liars relied on the lie
    • Yes
  6. Michigan sustained harm because it relied on the lie
    • if Harbaugh is the only one disciplined under the fairness doctrine this would be true

What about ESPN? If they determined that Michigan's only chance in court is to go down this road, they would have a huge incentive to keep lighting the shit on fire because a B1G without Michigan is to their benefit.

What about FOX, NBC, CBS? If Michigan prevails, they will immediately sue the B1G because the value of the conference games has declined in value relative to what was negotiated.

What about Tony the Tigger Petitti? If he backs down now his authority will forever be in question. If he proceeds down the road of punishment and Michigan prevails, Larry Scotting the Pac12 will be a meme, Tony Petitting the B1G will become a case study. If he proceeds down the road of punishment and Michigan loses, his authority will still hold, and even if after the current GOR deal expires Michigan leaves that may or may not even be his problem. His only chance to save his job is to hand out punishment and hope Michigan loses in court.

So I think for selfish reasons he will levy a suspension punishment and dare Michigan to have it play out in the courts.

Of course that is all just my opinion, IANAL, and I got all my degrees from South Harmon Institute of Technology, so as a Walmart Wolverine, it's probably better that I quit drinking and go to bed.

I'm just tired of bad…

I'm just tired of bad officiating. why bother watching if they're just going to predetermine the outcome.

Oh no, we suck again!

Oh no, we suck again!

Michigan needs to focus on…

Michigan needs to focus on ending the game with more points than PSU. If this team can do that, Michigan will win the game.

does that mean you'll hold…

does that mean you'll hold off on saying anything until after the 2nd week, or will you post whiny ass comments if the team goes 0-1 next week?

yeah, I know it's unlikely…

yeah, I know it's unlikely. But I think it would be more fair. Hell I'd even give a higher base during the first 4 years, then increase the overall by decreasing the base and increasing the incentives incrementally each year thereafter.

I'm actually wondering why…

I'm actually wondering why contracts aren't more incentive laden. Give a $3M base but if you win a conf championship +5M and if you make the CFP +5M and if you win it all +5M. If you win it all you'll be the highest paid coach, and if you don't you get paid accordingly.

yeah screw this coaching…

yeah screw this coaching staff. You know what else? Screw doing chores. And definitely screw the guy who hates doing chores then does it anyway and tells people he hates doing it. I mean it's like the guy just wants attention that mommy and daddy didn't give him when he was growing up. Definitely screw that guy.

please stop and check your…

please stop and check your blood pressure. the amount of sodium in this post is over the recommended daily allowance.

I think this is the crux of…

I think this is the crux of the problem. DMac is a better zone read QB based on the small amount of film I've seen in blowout games. But maybe Patterson is less careless with the ball during pass attempts? I guess  the coaches must be thinking better to punt with Patterson than have more INTs with DMac. Though guess they forgot about the sudden case of fumble-itis the team got.

23-21 at ISU Matt Campbell?…

23-21 at ISU Matt Campbell? If that's doing a ton, I know of a guy at SDSU. Coaches DLinemen. Has a better record in a P5 conference. Maybe we should give him a call. Heard he'd walk to Michigan.

was that the coaches telling…

was that the coaches telling him not to keep or he just is too timid to keep except when the game is on the line and he wants to be the hero? I mean I know the coaches want to minimize hits, but at some point those reads need to be worked out with some game time experience so he can actually experience reading a defense. You know like on 4-2 and the defender faked taking the outside then crashed the RB after the handoff.

When was the last time we…

When was the last time we actually won a Gameday away game? When Carr was HC? Can't remember Hoke or Harbaugh actually doing well on the road; and RR was never good enough to be on Gameday....

Actually, how is it that two coaches have struggled on the road? And Carr's teams didn't travel well to the west coast either. It better not be because the team cheaps out on the hotels.

Man why did you only give 38…

Man why did you only give 38 points to PSU? Have you seen this team play? They gonna give up at least 28 points on fumbles. You saying the PSU offense is only good for 10 straight up points at home at night in a white out? 68-3 easily. Harbaugh goes for a FG to save a shutout.

Yeah, it sucks that the team…

Yeah, it sucks that the team can't take the whole offseason to learn a whole new offense philosophy and build upon it week on week. It's not like Harbaugh ever fired his OC and brings in a fresh new voice. Hate that we've had Gattis for 5 years now and this spread shit isn't working. We should go and do what Iowa does and try some I formation wham plays or fullback traps. Spread offenses are so ubiquitous now, it's time that pro style is brought back to the college game because nobody will know how to defend it.

situational awareness. I…

situational awareness. I feel like this team threw way too much at the kids during the offseason. Can't expect college kids to process that much information, especially after one off season of installing a new offense. Simplify it to the basics and give them 1 key to work on until they master it. The OL has been getting slightly better each game, probably because they are understanding their roles better. QBs and RBs are asked to read the defense during the mesh point, wonder if this throws off their initial handle on the ball to what they are used to, and then thinking about proper handling technique while getting hit in the face by a 250+ lb linebacker.

As an aside, wonder if this is what's also ailing Patterson. You're asking him to know how to read the defense presnap for the RPO, how to read the dlinemen at the mesh point, and also how to read the defense when they're in coverage and figure out who's running what route and when they may get open. He may just not be fast at having to process that much information.

didn't they just get creamed…

didn't they just get creamed by Purdue today as well? Maybe Alabama OCs are just not good OC hires when they don't have the same horses to play with. But Locksley seems like a dickrod clone. Scores a metric shit ton of points against teams who are completely overmatched and can't get a first down against teams with a pulse.

they're thinking too much,…

they're thinking too much, from the broadcast Gattis had to simply what he wants from them. My guess is the system Gattis tried to install has too many keys to read, and he didn't finish installing the system before fall camp ended. Probably spent more time in practice teaching how the system is supposed to work and less time on fundamentals of holding on to the ball. This happened before, in 1998 Hoke pretty much admitted they didn't spend much time teaching dlinemen how to reach to option plays because they just won the championship and expect the returning starters to know how to react in those situations. McNabb running over the team on national TV was the result.

not that much bubble screens and slants probably because they don't trust them on the fundamentals, 2 plays where poor fundamentals leads to very bad results.

yeah. I hate it when…

yeah. I hate it when Harbaugh is calling the plays. Why can't he just let Gattis call the I formation wham plays that Gattis was brought in for. Screw this zone read from Shotgun crap Harbaugh brought with him from the 9ers.

yeah me too. At least Smart…

yeah me too. At least Smart is in the stronger division in his conference and wins it consistently and won the SEC by beating Alabama.

Yeah, if at first you don't…

Yeah, if at first you don't succeed, try try again. I mean Georgia won the SEC after firing their winning coach, and LSU has been in the playoffs every year after beating Alabama since firing their coach who had 10 win seasons but couldn't beat Saban. If these SEC schools can find a better coach after firing their winning coaches, why can't we? I mean Tennessee tried to do it and haven't sniffed a win in decades, but hell they're probably run by sister marrying rednecks, because even Texas is finally back.

Chris Creighton is just down…

Chris Creighton is just down the road. Someone get him on speed dial. Dude's only 66-64 in Div 1, but he's 161-88 if you add in Div3 and NAIA. Clearly the best option.

I agree. I heard Meyer is…

I agree. I heard Meyer is itching to even his record in the series to keep balance in the force.

Remember when Georgia was in…

Remember when Georgia won the SEC after beating Alabama? I heard couches burned in Atlanta for months.

Florida looked like the more…

Florida looked like the more talented but more undisciplined team. The Miami line had no answer for the Florida pass rush. The best play against the Florida secondary is the underthrown ball.

It's game 11 of year 3

why does the o-line play like a bunch of 1 star high school freshmen? I mean the simplest stunt, twist, or swim move and the opposing dlinemen is immediately in the QB's face. Remember when Harbaugh's classroom on grass was being pitched as a huge outside of the box thing? Where are the results of that with simple god damn pass blocking.

Maryland D

is going to be put some stats today. refs are basically the 12th defender. wtf is this shit.

must beat OSU.

and PSU must lose at least one more time. MSU must lose to OSU.

tiebreaker in a multi team tie is 1) overall record.

both OSU and MSU would have 1 lose OOC, so they would be eliminated. If PSU and Michigan are still tied, PSU would win with head to head.

So the only real path is to

1. Win out

2. PSU loses once more

3. MSU loses to OSU

4. OSU wins non Michigan games

We must go into a tie scenario where we can win the first mutli-team tie rule outright, which means tied with MSU and OSU in conference but PSU falls out already.

Hidgon

i believe was a composite 3 star? But 4.5 40 speed. At 4.74 Haskins is slower than Rashan Gary....  hopefully he has some good change of direction and shiftiness

O'Korn is not good

Those who were clamoring for him over Speight should be ashamed of themselves. Man up and own up to that travesty of a mistake. And yet those same people will learn nothing and clamor for the next backup. Maybe all the QBs are Threets and Sheridans this year.

USC

USC is making this a game now; whatever turnover malaise afflicted them in the 1st half have disappeared.

upshot: more shots of those smoking hot SC cheerleaders. damn.

Don Brown

wasn't that year 1 of Don Brown's defense for Michigan as well though?

I didn't mind Brock as much;

I didn't mind Brock as much; his play diagnosis on some of the offensive busts was spot on.

the playcalling as been all over the place

it's like they're doing everything and have the players be everywhere at once.

to be fair, so have the opponents' front 7.

whoa, this literally just

whoa, this literally just happened. literally refreshed through a series of sites; I'm not sure how this type of ad behavior is acceptable. Either trying to do a drive by or increase click rates, both sorta pretty unethical....

it's the page change that bothers me

I'm ok with whatever ad is showing as banners, but changing the entire URL of the page seems a  bit... shady. almost like it set the page refresh to go to an ad website and leave mgoblog. Like sort of a drive by attack....

The WRs are young and lack experience

did they do the offense any favors? no, that drop by McDoom couldn't have come at a worse time.

But I think of it this way. They are trying to run a pro scheme, so the receivers not understanding their jobs and how to adjust routes on the fly is excusable.

The QB is the backup, so being on the same page as the receivers when running a pro scheme is going to be off.

We can discuss the relative merits of how the staff approached either of those aspects, but for the sake of argument I'll give that a pass.

But the OLine is atrocious; they were out physicalled and out schemed all night. Let that sink in for a moment. A Jim Harbaugh coached team got out physicalled and out schemed at the piont of attack. There are many things one should be able to forgive. That should not be one of them.

OL issues

ignoring all the usual excuses of being young at the OLine, how do you fix it?

This game brought up (or at least shines a bright light on) the major issues at the point of attack. The right side gets easily confused by stunts and twists; the left side is only marginally better. It would be easy to point to an experience thing, but when was the last time anyone remembers Michigan fielding an elite oline? Not since 2006 at least; 2007 if you want to be generous.

It's always fun to see your own front 7 in the opponents backfield; it is painful to watch opponents front seven made up of supposedly lower ranked players feeding in your  backfield.

Is CoFoPo a mgoblog

Is CoFoPo a mgoblog thing?

Otherwise anyone who uses that term deserves a swift kick to the 'nads. It sounds like tai chi, chai tea drinking, dipshit millennial.

how come you're not willing

how come you're not willing to chalk up his defense to personnel then? just because of history? all I know is, that dline is a POS, and the LBs get themselves so out of position oregon would be better off playing 4-0-7.

I don't get the people who

I don't get the people who says Hoke is a bad DC but a good DLine coach.

You can't point to Oregon's defense and say Hoke sucks as a DC but could be Mattison's replacement on the dline; maybe you don't like the scheme he is running at Oregon, but that dline is god awful.

Watching the Ore Cal

Watching the Ore Cal game

I'll leave the opinion of Hoke to others on the board, and the scheme is a head scratcher at times (4th & 4 with a 10 yard cushion....?!!?)

But the d-line is awful; I've never seen a 4 man front get moved around so badly. and the LBs are frequently caught out of position, but even when they are in position there's someone in their face because the dline can't force the oline to engage long enough. I don't think it's the athleticism of the defense personnel per se, but the position coaches and Hoke don't seem to be on the same page here and it's causing the players to look less skilled than I would otherwise have believed.

John Saunders was the only

John Saunders was the only reason I'd even watch the halftime announcements during CFB season. He is truly one of the best announcers I've seen on TV, I will miss him dearly during halftimes of the upcoming CFB season.

I just can't picture the

I just can't picture the stereotypical tree hugger in Kentucky.

Hoke calling plays

I read from this forum some while ago that Hoke called plays at Ball State because he fired one of his coordinators midway through the season; but I can't find any references to it on the Internet. My Google-Fu is weak.

Anyway, if it is true that he has called plays at the college level before before, maybe it's not so bad that he gets a shot to coordinate a defensive scheme. Besides, there have been cases where assistant coaches slowly rise up the ranks to be coordinators.

I get that Hoke's last team left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Not defending him at all; wonder how much meddling Brandon did on the football team; reading between the lines in Bacon's book seemd to imply that he torpedoed coach/player relations in some of the Olympic sports....

Slighty OTgiga with a soft

I watched some of the BC vs ND game, and couldn't help but think if BC had an average offense that game would have been much different. Brown did a lot with nothing; but I'm still cautiously optimistic. A lot of times putting together a staff requires chemistry as well, hopefully the defensive staff can mesh in the offseason.

well as they say, any given

well as they say, any given Saturday.... PSU's OL needs to give Hackenberg enough time to throw downfield. If that happens, PSU has a great chance. If Hackenberg is on his back all game, it'll be up to the PSU RBs to make things happen against a stout MSU dline, and well I don't like their chances at that point.

I mean if you really wanted

I mean if you really wanted to make it an accurate analogy it would be like the girl of your dreams telling you she'd date you if you stopped sneaking around after having the crabs once and then being caught with the crabs again, and she tells you she just wants to be friends.

says nobody who's ever

says nobody who's ever watched the 2012 ND game.
