I’d classify that uniform as ..... Terp-ish.
Disagree Rod Allen is the guy who thought a 39 year old Torii Hunter played like he was 29. He thought Peralta was a great shortstop. He recently thought Zimmerman, who had allowed 17 earned runs in just over 19 innings was pitching well. Add that to the contrived stuff like “I see you” and I just don’t view him as very good. At least Gibby has experience as a manager, a coach, and a successful player.
Love it Bring him in. Then run the three fullback, two tight end formation. Now THAT is man ball!
Gibson The Parkinson’s probably does play a role. I’m more concerned about content and Kirk is WAY better than Rod Allen.
So now... ...they need to add about three defensive tackles. None in the ‘18 class and none so far in ‘19. However if we go with a seven DB formation and no big guys we’re good...or so RichRod would say.
Smart guy We know for sure that if Anderson can handle academics at Rice he’d fit at a strong academic school like Michigan. They’ll probably wait to see if a certain prominent OT recruit comes to UM. For the right guy there is a starting job to be had. Cole did it as a true frosh.
Location location location Recruit in Florida and you’re home every night for dinner. Recruit in Missouri.... nuf said.
Mistake The QBs we need for the next three seasons are already on the team. This guy comes in and at least one if not both (Peters and McCaffrey) transfer out. Why spend two years waiting your turn if the program becomes known for bringing in transfers all the time?
Bad move The guy can’t play til ‘19. By then we have a RS Junior, a RS Soph, and one or two RS Frost. If this guy comes in we’ll lose someone transferring out and create doubt among future recruits that they’ll ever get a shot. Transfers at QB were needed when Harbaugh first arrived. Not anymore. Now a starting left tackle as a grad transfer for next fall might be a good idea.
Additions I think the staff may look at a grad transfer at both OT and DT. UM would have a possible starting spot on the OL and what top notch DT in his right mind wouldn’t salivate at the thought of lining up with Gary, Solomon, etc in a Don Brown coached defense?
Nope With the first pick the Cleveland Browns select John O’Korn, Quarterback, Michigan.
Could be that there is little interest in MLS because we don’t have a team to root for. Asking someone from Michigan to root for a team from Chicago much less a team from frickin’ Columbus, Ohio is asking too much.
There are never enough Tatas.
Donovan We’ll have to agree to disagree on Landon. He could have been world class had he not three times run away from Europe for the easy life in MLS. CP is already better. Pity he won’t be playing next summer. The question now is does the US use this failure as a springboard to real change. Arena is already on record as saying not much needs to be changed. I heard that and damn near puked.
US Soccer The problem is that the primary goal of US Soccer is to promote MLS rather than produce teams that actually have what it takes to win. Merely making the World Cup isn’t enough. Many didn’t like Juergen but he did understand what individuals need to do to play at the highest level. That means seeking out the toughest competition. Think about who the best player for the USMNT is and you’ll get the idea. Bradley, Dempsey, and Josie all came back to the nice comfy MLS and have accomplished very little since they did. This has the possibility of being the best thing ever for US Soccer. We’ll see if wiser heads prevail.
More importantly This could have been a life changing injury. Grateful he can move his arms and legs. Football is secondary. Beyond that, with so much emphasis on targeting why won’t the league do something about this hit? As to the current QB situation, any quality time Peters can get this year makes UM even better next year. I’ve always felt UM won’t achieve it’s full potential until the have an experienced QB that was recruited and developed by Harbaugh. As good as Michigan is now they’re still on the rise.
Who's happy? This basketball scandal takes the focus off SEC football. They've gotta be happy the spotlight is shining elsewhere. Let's hope their happiness is short lived.
Not consistent In routes or catching the ball? Not every recruit works out. If the UM staff isn't playing him it's because he hasn't earned it. With the freshman class of receivers Moe's window of opportunity is just about closed.
Thanks! I needed a good laugh.
Medical redshirt If it is going to be most of the season then take the redshirt. Time for Martin to make his debut and DPJ to get more touches.
Agree He'll only get better with more experience. Can't wait to see what Brown can do with the defense as they grow. Opposing OBs on the schedule in future seasons may want to consider transferring.
Probably not $650,000 I'd suspect a typo and it's really $65,000. Now Fornette may have gotten 650 grand from LSU.
Helmets While better helmets help, you can't avoid the fact that a brain is encased in the skull. Impact means the brain WILL bash against the inside of the skull. One cannot fault parents for erring on the side of caution.
One left to blame The only one Kelly hasn't blamed other than himself is Touchdown Jesus. I hope he keeps the job for the next 20 years. One of these times they've gonna get this hire right. My prediction for the next coach at ND is Bob Stoops. Take a year off and then one last job.
Old days Attending the game should be no worry. Most there think hockey siphons money away from the underfunded football program. If you get the chance stop by where they used to play hockey it is right next to St John arena and is creatively called the OSU Ice Rink. Honestly the first time I saw it I thought it was a side building where they stored track meet equipment. Held a few hundred and the rink had very little room between the blue lines. Locker rooms downstairs and so small the entire team wouldn't fit. Press box was about ten feet off the ice and your feet was basically over the top of the boards. Amazing.
Bradley's goal The Mexicans were careless which provided the chance. But Bradley's pitch awareness, both in intercepting the pass and recognizing the keeper was caught out, was superb. One touching the shot with just enough to clear the keeper while getting it under the bar was world class. Not sure he'll still be starting in Russia but he'll be a very useful sub.
To amplify your point The Broncos changed running backs like I change my socks (yearly) and it didn't matter. 1000 yard plus rusher every year.
OMG Hackett may hire Harbaugh to run Ford. Actually, Harbaugh would kick ass at that too.
Water or... Better yet beer. Drink several. Not only is it a lot of fluid the alcohol helps a bit with the pain.
Travel squads? It seems upping the number of players who can travel to an away game would dovetail nicely here. UMs game at Rutgers would have been a perfect time to play some froshies while calling off the dogs a bit.
Depth UM is getting back to where they'll be able to red shirt almost all recruits to the OL and DL. Having a year around the program with the level of coaching will produce a stream of great linemen. The OL will have a second string better than 75 percent of teams. It may cause Moo U to apply for membership in the MAC.
National Signing Day NSD may not mean as much if the early signing date in December actually happens. You'll see many players who want the big time schools caving and cementing their spot. Schools will love have three fewer months they have to spend guarding commits, silent or not.
New coach Probably UM has done some back channel work on this already. I hope they take the chance to see who is interested as opposed to just anointing Mel. He may be the best choice but do a thorough search. It's a prime job.
So what? C'mon, what's the one Olympic hockey moment remembered above all others? Amateurs vs pros in 1980. I'd rather the pros in all team sports stay out. We see them all the time anyway. Might encourage a few hockey stars to stay in college another year for the chance at gold.
Too soon The answer is we have to wait until a QB recruited by Harbaugh has the chance to start for a couple years. Peters will be the first to have that chance. Given Harbaugh's experience and track record, for us to assume anything but great success is foolish. Any football coach shouldn't be judged until five years in. Then it is their players and an established system. Wanna doubt? Go elsewhere.
Exactly The surge for MSU came when UM was in the midst of two bad coaching hires, Penn St was reeling from Sandusky, and OSU was just gearing up under Urban. Dantonio can no longer get more out of his players than some others. The "we don't get no respect" approach only goes so far.
Tough timing Although CMU didn't lose as many recruits they were put in a tough spot a couple years back when Enos bolted late to become OC at Arkansas. This will be a recruiting hole for the Broncos. Probably best if they name a current assistant as interim so there is some continuity. But maybe Les Miles wants to take the job. No one seems to seriously consider him. The MAC has occasionally become a landing spot for displaced coaches from big time programs.
Expectations After the unbeaten regular season Fleck just posted the expectations are far higher than ever before. When you factor in that Koke was once HC at the most storied football program in the universe the pressure to win big will be high. The better spot is not to follow Fleck but follow the guy who follows Fleck.
Turning it down Even if he turns them down he's hurt himself by the process. Every recruit should understand the coach who recruited them may not be around. But after doing the old "I love WMU, want to remain a Bronco" song and dance it can't help with any recruits that are on the fence. Might as well do a Steve Miller and Take The Money And Run.
Peters It is essential that Peters get loads of meaningful snaps next season. As I've said before I really want to see what this team can do with a QB totally recruited and developed by Harbaugh. ABout the time that happens the entire roster will be his and a national title will be in the cards.
Sparty's game vs UM True MSU played tough against the Wolverines but you always need to remember that for them it's the biggest game of the year. They were at home and desperate for something to salvage their season to some extent. Had that been a true indication of how good they were they'd have won at least eight games this year.
They'll need both Speight may start but you know OSU will be coming after that shoulder. UM needs to prep O'Korn as if he will start. UM needs to play their best and that's exactly what they'll do. In Harbaugh we trust.
No worries If he comes to UM that's great. If not, there still will be a very strong group of RBs in various classes. The run game will be consistently great.
O'Korn can do what needs to be done The key is that the defense doesn't let Indiana pile up points.
Rich Rod's defense His problem was that he seemed to feel that if his offensive players were small and quick that he defense had to be the same. No reason a team can't play a spread offense while having a more traditional defense.
That's why? He might want to verify that actually came from UM. But even if it did, if his feelings get hurt that easily he wouldn't survive practice number one with Harbaugh.
You want a long ass flight? Try LAX to Sydney, Australia.
Trust the staff A program needs players like this. He'll come in, redshirt, and work his way up. Oft time five star guys transfer out if they're not starting soon. Until it's proven incorrect we should assume the coaches know what they're doing in building a program for the long term.
They got it wrong If this improbable thing were to happen then the Big 12 would join Michigan.
Good stuff This was very well done. A couple comments. Of the various ratings I do like KRACH. Seems to be the most on the mark. College hockey is maybe the most objective of all college sports when it comes to picking teams for the tourney. As for Regional sites in the West, the state of Michigan really only has JLA and Van Andel in GR. At either, unless you have UM or Moo U you won't come close to filling them. State hasn't been going much recently. Hard to fill arenas without the big names. WCHA has been forced to abandon neutral site league playoffs because attendance was horrible. I'd say two issues to watch are whether the sport grows. The BIG could use more teams. Also, if the price of oil doesn't go back up the two teams from Alaska might cease to exist.
