Wagner to NBA

I wouldn't have been able to enjoy his senior year easily. This is clearly the right decision and it seems like all he could have done was hurt his draft prospects by coming back.
I made a comment during the run that we are only a top 5 team when Wagner is carrying the team, but when he's not "on" I thought Teske was the better all around player. Wagner's last few games made that comment look dumb.
Last year he had a good game in the tourney and suddenly the mocks had him in the first round, then not. That was stupid. But I think his gritty play this run sealed the deal. After the top 10 picks I think every team needs to start thinking about him.

We did keep Burke and Wagner after they initially considered going pro. Burke especially was almost out the door after his freshman year and then decided to stay. Moe tested the waters last year and then came back.
McGary and GRIII also turned down the pros after their frosh year.

This can be said of a lot of teams. If your team is really good, you probably had NBA-level players, and once a star player has made the Final Four, what else is he going to do at the college level?
I do think Matthews will be back, and that we'll have a very good team anyway.
For me, the real "what-if" from the Beilein era is not over anyone going pro, but over Mitch staying healthy in 2013-14. Add him to that group, that won the B1G and nearly made the Final Four, and I think that's the national champion.

He hurt his back in the 2013 offseason and initially tried to play through the pain before finally having surgery in January. He was making rapid progress in his rehab and even dressed for the 2014 tournament games, though he wasn't quite ready. Because he dressed, he had to take the drug tests during the tourney (which he failed).

But think theres 10 teams that are and only 2 ever get to the game. Even if they were better next year it would still be unlikely they make again.
Im with ya though, I was really holding out hope he was going to say Fuck it lets have another go. Damn it Dirk you should have just retired!

His defense could be better, but his footwork?

Anyone have a thought on which way Matthews is leaning? I'd think he'd at least get an evaluation. With Matthews I think we're still a top3 Big Ten team next season.

One of a kind. True Michigan Man. Enthusiasm unknown to mankind. Wish him nothing but the best.

I was hoping he'd come back even though it is his time to go. The only thing I thought might keep him here is that I heard he really loves being a student at Michigan. Apparently he does. Beilein should keep his letter and show it to his recuits.

Happy we got to have him as long as we did. He helped us win a lot of games and gave us some great memories.
Good luck Moe!

Selfishly, i wanted him to stay, however, I am not surprised, as this was expected after testing the NBA waters last year.
However, it was truly a pleasure to see Mo on the courts - he brought so much energy and passion to the game it was infectioius...
Truly one of my favorite Michigan players...
Good Luck to Mo - he'll always have Michigan fans rooting for him in the NBA

Very impressive to go the extra mile writing that piece.
How close is he to getting his degree? Hope some day he comes back and gets his degree, assuming he doesn't finish it this semester.

I wish we could have you for one more year - forgive my selfish UM basketball team rooting priorities.
Thanks for contributing to two epic NCAA runs. And two B1G tourney titles.

I knew this was coming but still a little bittersweet. What a pleasure it was watching Moe the last few years and after his performance in the Chicago-Loyola game, this is the right call. Best of luck to Moe!

I have a feeling Mo Wagner might be fun to watch in the NBA too, so yet another reason to watch the NBA a little more than I typically do.
Good luck, Mo, and thank you for helping to make the last couple years of Michigan basketball a ton of fun.
