W Soccer upsets #9 Wisconsin despite missing 5 starters

Late to post this but wanted to make sure this huge result didn't go unnoticed.

Earlier this afternoon, Michigan took on #9 Wisconsin out in Madison in a road game.

Michigan fought Minnesota to a 2-2 OT tie on Thursday night in heroic fashion. Minnesota won the B1G last season and Michigan was without FIVE starters for this road trip. All due to injuries. Freshman Sarah Stratigakis scored on a slow-roller with 11 seconds left in regulation to tie it.

Those injuries include team captain Ani Sarkisian and Canadian U20 national teamer Sura Yekka. Coach Greg Ryan cannot catch a break when it comes to injuries as they have devastated this program for the last 3 years.

Interesting storylines today, too.

Sophomore standout defender, Jada Dayne, returned to her home state today for the first time as a Wolverine. She is the daughter of Wisconsin Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne.

And naturally, Jada put Michigan on the board first with her 3rd goal of the season in the 36th minute.

A foul inside the box in the 54th minute allowed Wisconsin to take advantage and convert a penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1.

Another OT game loomed, which lately has meant tie games. Michigan was 2-0-11(!!) in their last 13 OT games that included a frustrating 8 game tie streak. Not today. 5 minutes into OT, Reilly Martin buried it for the game-winner.

Michigan pulls off the massive upset, without 5 key starters. 2-1 in OT over #9 Wisconsin.

Michigan is now 5-2-4 on the season. Next up is Iowa at U-M Soccer Stadium on Friday night.
