Unprecedented College Football Weekend?

Submitted by UNCWolverine on

I don’t recall a college football weekend quite like this.

On top of this, #12 MSU @ #13 OSU as well as #15 Oklahoma State @ #21 Iowa State. So that makes 20 of the top 25 teams squaring off this weekend. Has this ever happened before?

Also what should we call this weekend? Since we are not part of any of these matchups I think I’ll go with Meteor Week. What say you?

Go Blue.

Agree, I'm thrilled that I didn't decide to go to a game today. Already been to games this fall at LSU, Mississippi State, and Oklahoma State. Picked a great weekend to surf my couch.

over the decades is that it's often the unheralded weekends that turn out to be the best and the ones with the biggest matchups can quite easily disappoint. Not to say that today can't be fun but I also wouldn't be shocked if it's not even the best CFB weekend of the year.

This graphic should be shown to any talking head who is suggesting the playoff be expanded beyond six teams. This is why college football remains awesome while the NFL is losing attendance and viewership.

This Saturday is called I work the afternoon/evening shift and will miss all but the noon games. Hooray. And I definitely don't care enough about the non-Michigan games to DVR them all. Highlights it is.

But hey, at least I am home to watch most of MSU-OSU? Of all the games to be able to watch...

Laurier vs Western for the Ontario title (second year in a row after an amazing comeback win for laurier last year) and Laval (Canada's Alabama) vs Montreal (their biggest rival)

guess it's a pretty good lineup but nothing great. Ga/Auburn, ND/Miami and TCU/Ok are listed twice each which makes th graphic look better than it is. Funny thing is I think the only 2 unranked teams on there are both going to win their games.

In case nobody realized, all these matchups are fabricated by the CFP committee to make people tune in. Auburn, Iowa, MSU (both of them) are all horrendously overrated in order to give the appeal of a "top 25 matchup". They'll do it again if Michigan and Wisconsin win this week, we'll shoot up to top 20 in order to make our game more attractive

I don't know about "Top 20" but I would say definitely Top 25. We aren't ranked in the CFP and I can't see us taking that big of jump for beating Maryland. Who knows though, obviously a lot of teams in front of us lost/will lose because of the matchups this week. I still say maybe #22 or so, but I'm no "expert"!

On my way to round up the last few items for the Cuban sliders from mgobbq this week, gonna get some beers and enjoy the hell out of a great slate of entertaining and low stress (for a Michigan fan, hopefully) games!
