Spring football practice

Submitted by umbig11 on

Quiet day for the most part. The focus was on technique and repetition at the skill positions. The OL had too many moving parts to get a feel for 1's or 2's etc. The backs and recievers had a lot of one-on-one coaching moments. This seemed to be more like a day of conditioning, coaching, and learning. Walker returned, but seemed to be limited a bit. Newsome was still out, but more than one individual said he will give it a shot in the fall. No other ijuries were reported. The only real highlight appears to be Patterson and his ability to escape and make big plays. I think every UM fan either expected that or wants to hear it. You can't put too much stock in that when you are only 3-4 practices into spring. There is so much talent roaming the LB corps. They are going to be fun to watch. There isn't a lot of new information here, but it was just one of those slow days that will get them ready for the next mini scrimmage.

Which is another way of saying you're speculating that a kid will transfer based on nothing at all?  Why would you do that?  Doesn't that seem like a stupid thing to do?

I don't buy it unless there's some intelligence about this. Makes almost no sense, though--the coaches were really high on him last year, and he can pass Peters with a good spring and fall. If Patterson is enough of a hit, he's the guy ready to lead a talented team in 2019 (and if Patterson isn't a hit, Caf can pass him).

If it's a QB that transfers I think it's Peters. But we'll see what, if anything, happens.

Lets play a game..Everyone picks a player, nobody can name a player that has already been picked..until every player has been picked.

Then when it happens, whoever picked the right player gets negged to Bolivia

Defense does not concern me one bit. I have full confidence in Don Brown. No reason to even talk about the defense. The offense is where the focus should lie from now until kickoff. If the oline does not improve it won’t matter who the q.v. is we’re fucked it’s as simple as that. Same goes for the rbs who I expect to have great season again as long as the oline can block

Yes, UMBig11 is our hero. Most of us barely get by on life support until he injects a fresh batch of practice notes into our veins!

May be the pessimist in me - or OL PTSD - but the fact that Shea has had to display his "ability to escape" makes me all sorts of ARGGGGGH.

Yes I know it's early and D is ahead of O and even the best offensive lines give up pressure in enough snaps and blah blah blah DID YOU SEE 2017 I THINK I'M JUSTIFIED OK?

Well, think about it this way.  One way to nuetralize a pass rush is to force a defense to play solid sound containment defense in their lanes.  In other words a mobile quarterback can go a long way to making your offensive line look better than it is.
