Softball shuts out UIC in elimination game, stays alive in NCAA Regionals

This is the team that I recognize.

I said, in a previous thread, that the regional must be complete by midnight Tuesday.

I was wrong about that, looking at the NCAA manual:  they can not start a game after 11 pm on Monday, unless it is the "if necessary" game immediately following game 6.  The amount of rain forecast for Lexington makes me wonder how close we are going to come to that deadline.

(Midnight Tuesday is the baseball rule; 11 pm Monday is the softball rule).

2-out bunt towards 3rd had 3rd baseman crashing in, pitcher got to it first, and runner on 1st got all the way to 3rd, as no one covered. But then 2 runners stranded with line drive to RF.

Schaefer in to pitch.

Natalie Peters has gone two-for-two with a double and three runs scored leading off for the Wolverines.  Tera Blanco's 2-run homer gave her 11 homers and 44 RBI on the season.

Griman flies to left to start the inning for UIC.

Schaefer strikes out final two batters. Combined no-hitter spoiled with a single to deep short with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

Meghan Beaubien pitched five innings of no-hit ball and struck out nine.

You mean to tell me you recognize the team that is obviously superior compare to the opponent and we beat them soundly? C’mon. I’m a season ticket holder. I’ve seen you in the stand every now and again. You know this team is essentially average. We have shown flashes, but on the national scale we are average. Need to get better across the board. Not saying we can’t do it, just saying how it is this year. Just be honest with yourself. It’s a tough life living in fantasy in all UM sports

AND Schaefer has not shown to be a good pitcher this year. Without considerable improvement I don’t think she plays a meaningful inning of ball next season

Alex Storako was named to the MaxPreps Underclass All-America Softball Team after posting a 22-3 record with a 0.82 earned run average and 289 strikeouts as well as a .418 batting average and 35 RBI during her junior year. Not sure how she did as a senior, but she's one of the 5 incoming recruits. Sounds like she could be the next Tera Blanco.
