Softball beats Northwestern, 10-0; Betsa gets her 1,000th K

#20 Michigan took on Northwestern tonight at chilly Alumni Field.

The Wolverines continued the signature trend of getting on their opponent early, as Michigan took a 3-0 lead. This thanks to an RBI single by Tera Blanco that fluttered away from the Northwestern 1B mid-air, scoring Faith Canfield. Kelly Christner would then put up 2 runs on a single.

After a scoreless 2nd inning, Michigan got going again in the 3rd. Abby Ramirez got an RBI double on a single to LF when the Northwestern LF moved up, making it 4-0 Michigan.

Ramirez would score shortly after when an attempted pick off on a double steal went over the head of the 2B to make it 5-0 Michigan. Monte would again use the LF side, as her single down the line scored another Michigan run in the 3rd inning to give Michigan a 6-0 lead.

One inning later in the 4th, Faith Canfield would score Natalie Peters on a single over the 3B's head, to make it 7-0 Michigan. Ramirez would again pick on the 3B of Northwestern as she sent a single over her head, to score another run to push it to 8-0 Michigan.

Kelly Christner would slash a 2-RBI double to the wall, to make it 10-0 Michigan. All of this took place in the 4th inning with no outs and bases continually loaded.

Megan Betsa would strike out 10 in this one, her 9th K being the 1,000th of her career. She's only the 3rd Wolverine in history to get 1,000 Ks.

Michigan wins 10-0 in 5 innings.

Michigan is now 24-7-1 and 4-0 in the B1G.

Michigan will face Northwestern again at Alumni Field tomorrow at 2pm.

It was so cold. I was glad it was a fast game. Three of the runs in the fourth came with two outs following a double play with bases loaded and no outs. The double play was the fly ball pick off second base type so no runs scored on that play - I think Terra blanco hit the fly ball. Some of the line up moved seem to help. Ramirez at the 6 spot and christner in the 7 spot had good games at the plate. Betsa was solid in the circle.
