The Snowflake Thread: Defense

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

Due to the nature of things, this will go up a little early - this is your thread to discuss and evaluate Michigan's performance on defense and the defensive playcalling.

2 passes that should have been a INT and these announcers are talking like he is the next Tom Brady

The defense stinks.  The gameplan, if there was one, stinks.  Keep fluffing Mattison, everyone.  A true freshman just diced and sliced out Michigan D.  Giving up 34 points to a "not very good" PSU.

This is why the B1G is laughed at accross the country.  Hey I've got an idea....lets play action when we have not run the ball effectively all game.  Sweet.

Borges needs to go for his suck job all game and ESPECIALLY the OT from him going VERY conservative

OT play calling was fine (well, not any worse than normal). The 2 OTs we played defense first, all we needed was a field goal. Run, run, run, kick is the high percentage call there. On the OTs where we were on offense, we mixed it up decently with some nice throws to Gallon on the sidelines. We just didn't execute. The calling to end regulation on the other hand was disgustingly cowardly.

3 and 1 and you cant get a 1st down ...If Hoke was any kind of coaqch the O line coach would be gone tonight

I for one will simply take a step back from Michigan football for a while and lower my expectations.  This team is simply not good enough or well coached enough to do what we think they are capable of.  They are the 3rd best team in their Division and will do well to win 9 games this year.  Brighter days ahead.....just not right now.

don't have any balls...we would have won the game in regulation easily.  Instead we try to jam the ball up the middle sixteen times in a row...playing RIGHT into PSU's hands.  Then the delay penalty cost us the winning FG.  Our coaches failed.

To be fair, they lost one game.  It happens.  This team isn't a BCS-caliber team, but this isn't a lost season because PSU played well and got some crazy breaks.

I think we needed to lose this game, as a reality check. We can't play like shit - as we have been - with a few good series here and there and expect to win conference championships. I get it - what else are you going to say, when you know your team is fourth or fifth best? But I would love to see Hoke show some fire now. He's the face of the program, and he needs to figure out how to inspire his players. I don't know about you, but I don't see much fire out there. Others have said we didn't play to win tonight, and that's exactly it. Hoke sets the tone. Borges sets the tone. I always thought Mattison set the right tone, but I don't know now. I'm beginning to feel like the tone is, let's play like it's the 1980's and 1990's, with a power RB, and smothering defense. We have neither, and, maybe more importantly, the game has changed since then. And it certainly doesn't seem like Borges or Hoke can adapt to 2013. If you don't have the players for manball, you have to figure something else out.
