Scout.com chairman fired, entire engineering team quits
Just saw this one come across on the Twitter feed. Awful Announcing has a good write-up on the craziness happening over at Scout. Sunday night, the chairman (and former CEO as of June) Jim Heckman was fired after trying to negotiate on behalf of the engineering team over late paychecks and unrealized equity. The board didn't like that, so they fired him and changed the locks on the engineering office in Seattle, which prompted the whole engineering team to quit.
Whole thing sounds like a giant clusterfuck.
Was this an episode of Silicon Valley?

Considering there are Russian investors involved and allegations of improper expense account usage, it would certainly make a good story arc.
Sounds like something Gavin Belson would get into.
What I'm seeing is the human equivalent of a flaccid penis.

This guy fucks
But is he any good at it? Asking for a friend...
Why you gotta be so HARD ON him?
One of you, and I won't say who, is the ugliest person I have ever seen.

So these fired engineers now create their own company and within only 6-months are bought out by their original company to do the same work they were fired to do originally?

Well that's some shady business dealings. Fuck. That.
This shit is getting old.
call in the bagmen and get these people paid so we don't have to resort to Rivals.
Sam Webb?
Hopefully he doesn't get gutted.
Hopefully he goes to 247
Sam and Steve together would be unbeatable.
247 is the only one that feels like they're really trying to be better. I hope they back a truck of money up to Sam's house and take him
It could be indigestion.
It's not like this stuff is ever fun, but I have to imagine Sam will be fine. He's way too plugged in and respected not to find another gig with U-M recruiting. 247 could pick him up and it would be game over for the rest of the recruiting sites.
Load of hooey
Sam must be really rakin it in to stay at that dump. Although maybe if they hire new engineers their layout will become mildly useable. Those guys should've been fired ages ago.
Is this really a bad thing if their site engineering is terrible?

Careful . . .
You mess with the bull and you get the horns.
a company based on selling the thoughts and activities of children for profit without cutting them in can be shady? Nooooo!
Moreover, with no CEO and no tech team (although a source indicates investors believe they may be able to coerce the tech team to return), Scout’s future doesn’t look bright, and there’s speculation the company may be snapped up by either Yahoo’s Rivals or CBS’ 247. It looks like we’re set for yet another roller-coaster ride in the world of recruiting sites.
Well, it would definitely be hard to stay in business with neither leadership nor a team to support the product, but yikes, what a clusterfuck.
I was kind of interested in seeing the letter concerning the tech team quite frankly, but the link didn't seem to work on my browser.
Looks like I'm getting rid of my subscription...

Hoping to read something similar about ESPN someday!
Thanks for cheering for hundreds and/or thousands of people to have their livelihood's taken away. You're a real blessing on society.
Because clearly they will never be able to find another job....
TV is a small shrinking world. Jobs aren't easy to find and that's before you flood the marketplace with people.
And either way, throwing out a "find another job" is still a shitty thing to say. Gonna guess that you probably wouldn't like it if people openly cheered for your industry to collapse so you and your family had to move states to find new employment in likely an entirely different field (because if ESPN goes down, the entire cable TV industry has likely collapsed).
You may not like ESPN, but there are thousands of people that work there that have nothing to do with the opinions of some on TV. Plenty of us don't like them just as much as you.
If there is a market, then someone will fill that market slot, and they will need to hire experienced people to do so, thus ending the job search for the former ESPN people.
If there is no market, then ESPN is doomed anyway.
So, really, your post is full of shit.
Cool thanks for the feedback. I was unaware how economies and job marketplaces worked. And thanks for letting me know my post was full of shit. I really value your opinion.

Don't think your post was that shitty, but it does come across as, 'what about the children!' Lots of industries come and go and lives are inevitably effected. If you're expecting utopia, I have some bad news...
Yeah, overall, just sounds like your mad bro.

Not mad, just saying openly cheering for random people to lose their jobs is a shitty thing to do.

From the strength of your reaction I'm guessing you (or maybe someone in your family) works for ESPN.
Speaking as a long-time employee of a company known for inspiring equally passionate critics and defenders (and I'm talking about religious-level zealotry here) my advice to you is to ignore comments from people attacking your company. Just roll your eyes and move on.
Like private military contractors.
Sometimes you must sacrifice a few for the betterment of the whole.
Cool. I'll let some of the people I know that were laid off know it was for a good cause. That'll help pay their mortgage.
I mean...y'all realize there's a handful of people that work at ESPN that read this blog and are part of the community, right? And you're still dicks anyways? Its a sports network. Maybe you being a little miffed that people say things on air that you don't agree with or in a manner you don't like isn't quite worth wishing ill will on the people that work there.
First of all, I'm assuming you were here in the comment section crying about people losing their livelihoods when Dave Brandon was fired too? If not, all you are is a hypocrite.
Secondly, you think people don't like ESPN because sometimes we disagree with what they say? Hahahaha ok, whatever you say.
(Hint: It could also be due to shit like this)
No I wasn't cheering for people to lose their jobs. I did want Dave Brandon to lose his, but k wasn't cheering for random people to lose theirs in collateral damage.
But fuck you anyways and thanks for your opinions. I hope you lose your job too, asshole.
