Schembechler Hall practice field ripped out (photos)

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

After leaving Alumni Field following Michigan's 6-0 shutout win over Maryland, I stopped to look at the practice field as I always do on the walkway out to the Crisler lots where I was park and saw this.

The Schembechler Hall practice fields that were installed in 2008 or 2009 have been removed.

Michigan Stadium will get a new turf field this summer, replacing the Duraspine surface installed in 2010.

I would like to ask this question myself, but I will mean it in a lot less of a condescending way, because I'm legitimately interested what job allows WD to do all this and make money. Whatever it is, sign me up!

I want to have that much free time and get that much gear and go to that many games!

Anyone know what surface they are installing?

The color maize will be really interesting. The 2003 install was way too orange; the last install matched the brighter Adidas color well and I liked it, but the new maize on the unis once again clashed.

Last weekend they put up fencing for a construction staging area betweem Schem. and Yost. So we assumed something in the football HQ for the 3rd time in 5 years (it seems). What's up WD...inquiring minds need to know? (Before anyone says "It's for the new turf install, duh" it's on the the other end of the building, with no easy access to the outdoor fields).

Artificial turf has a lifespan of 8-10 years so it makes sense it's getting replaced now. I'd imagine Glick is going to get a new field as well once spring practice concludes.
