Quick football note
On the injury front, Kareem Walker has joined a few that are dinged up. He appears to have an ankle injury. The severity is unknown. However, that has opened up RB3 competition. Ambry Thomas has shown off his talent in the early going in the secondary.
McElwain and Warriner have made their presence known. McElwain is very intense as he was getting after the WR group (mostly positive) and Warriner has been chewing up the OL. JKP has stood out along with a few others like Milton. Joe doesn't look or act like a true Freshman.
There were 4 guys that ran with 1's consistently so far on defense (Gary, Chase, K. Hudson, and Hill). On the offensive side of the ball there were just too many players getting reps to really get a feel other than Bredeson, Ruiz, Onwenu, and DPJ.
So you're saying this team will also be in the final four? Perfect
means that two national champs will equal national champs in football. As is the rule.

Got a lot of emotional eggs in that basket.

Technically the football championship will be in 2019 so hockey and basketball are going to both repeat next year. All your championships are belong to UM.

I couldn't fit "in the span of" in the subject line. Fail.
And a hockey school.
And a pretty good school school.
Go Blue!
with some great sports programs.

Wrestling, swimming, baseball, softball and now...Lacrosse.
And if this was not a sports blog I would also mention medicine, law, business, physics, education, engineering, architecture, dentistry, life sciences, social work. The list is endless.
O’Maury’s chance to make a push. Martin repoing with the ones in the slot?
Looking forward to seeing Thomas, Martin, and Singleton this year.
I am looking forward to seeing what a healthy Oliver Martin can do.
"not" healthy last year?
Correct, back injury. Plus then the coaches decided to redshirt.
about this injury. Thanks!
Very interesting. Thanks for the updates.
Wow, did you say Ambry Thomas at running back?! Now, you have got my hopes way up. That kid is such a great athlete. I did not know playing him at running back was even in consideration at any point.
Lol I think the comment on him was separate from the comments on the RBs
Yes, it reads as related but Samuels is the next RB up. They're not going to give Thomas that pounding.
If they put him in the Jabrill/wildcat package, I hope they revise it a bit because that worked about as well as a screen door on a battleship.
It's "screen door on a submarine" Biff.
Why don't you make like a tree and get outta here!
I thought the new saying was "make a like a tree and fiddy?"

Get the hell outta my car, old man!
Or are you Biff Tannen?
What are you talking about, butt head? Say "hi" to your mom for me.

I know what we saw of him in game time was very limited but he just didn't look like he had it.
Did he do well in practice?
March 27th, 2018 at 11:08 AM ^
We barely saw any action from him but great RBs tend to show out early and I'd be surprised if O'Maury ever became a dude.

So the current roster is holding up your argument.
:-p
Don’t give up on anybody.
Go Blue!!
I think it’s fair to say if a kid is gonna be a game breaking Heisman type player then they usually show up freshman year right away. But there’s plenty of solid/serviceable All Big Ten 1st or 2nd team starter types that really don’t pop up on the radar until year 2 or 3.
Higdon is pretty good but far from elite and I don't see him getting much better, save for pass pro. We haven't had a RB get drafted since Mike Hart in 2008! I don't know if Higdon breaks that streak but if he does I'd be shocked if its before the 6th round. He is an UDFA at this point.
I'm not giving up on anybody but maybe 30% or less of RB recruits pan out? There is only 1 starter per position. Many of our guys will never make a significant impact on the field. Trying to predict how depth shakes out isn't giving up on anyone anymore than Harbaugh making a guy 3rd or 4th string.
And it is true out of all positions RB is one of the most likely where you can show out as a freshmen if you're really good.
It doesn't read as related if you have a shred of common sense and aren't deliberately obtuse. Thomas is a 170 lb high potential CB and we're stacked at RB. You're being too charitable DMT.
I was getting pumped up, and was completely shocked at the same time. The first paragraph was confusing because it talked about an injury update for walker and the running back position. Ambry Thomas was thrown in as showing off his talent at the end of a paragraph entirely about running backs, and I misunderstood. Anyways, thank you for the updates.
Can you update us on Nordin and his success rate? Asking for a friend...
You want to know if he hooked up last week?

I'm way more interested in the punter. The punting game last year was bad.
March 27th, 2018 at 10:38 AM ^
this team will be so good, we won't have to punt all season
Thanks, I did not see anything impressive about Kareem last year I thought he was maybe the 4th best on the roster. Hope he gets better.
Didn’t see anything out of Kareem?! When he got in the game, he ran hard and made decisive cuts. He looked like a very serviceable back. I believe it was his lack of blocking ability that was holding him back from more playing time.
He barely got carries 20 but I saw very straight up and down when he did get on the field I believe he averaged just over 3 yards a carry. I’m just going off my eye test, he needs more carries if he can earn them but no I was not impressed with his 20 carries for 68 yards but more importantly did not see these decisive cuts you are talking about. He did not allow the play to develop on a few plays and actually but trying to bounce it went backwards. I want him to be awesome just stating what I observed.
1 - He needs to find a way to stay healthy. Can't get on the field from the trainers room.
2 - Because of his lack of experience the game still move pretty fast for him and he looks to try to the 10 run home run every time he touches the ball. Getting him enough experience to slow the game down would be a step in the right direction for him, IMO.
What do you mean straight up and down? If you mean his running style, that's just what some guys do. Adrian Peterson was like that and he was OK. And if you mean a north and south runner, I'm not sure why you'd think that's bad. He looked fast and physical and decisive.
Not sure what you were watching, but I saw some tough, decisive running. He didn't get a ton of carries, but his limited carries showed immense growth compared to his first year.
He can keep defenders off balance and set them up to be punished. I see really nice potential.
You must be Stevie Wonder!
