Question on the Tennessee shit show and the early signing period

Submitted by jbrandimore on
I want to state upfront that I am not drunk, but does there come a time that if Tennessee can’t find a coach and AD in this compressed time frame that they are better off taking a page from the Ohio State playbook and let Brady Hoke have an entire year as an interim coach? Their recruiting class must be collapsing and at some point soon I would think that would be of critical concern.

Insomnia is a bitch. Nothing has made me laugh more in the past week or so than the shit show in Tennessee, and the comments about it on this board, seriously can’t get enough of it. If I’m Brady Hoke, I would get the fuck out of there, stat. At this point they would be lucky to have him. I posted in the other thread, they have to be getting close to kicking the tires on Bert, John L. Smith, one of the Bowden boys, hell, nothing is off the table at this point. What a colossal disaster.

Tennessee fans better hope their former coach new AD Phillip Fulmer has some great connections in coaching. His coaching tree consists of David Cutcliffe (Duke) and Doug Marrone (Syracuse). I know Cutcliffe is a little long in the tooth but I wonder if he would be interested in the job to provide some stability for his remaining years. With Fulmer there, I hope the situation gets worse for Tennessee. That feller hates Michigan so I can't help but feel the same about him and UT.

Fulmer is the one who turned it into a shit show right along with his accomplice Manning. Can't believe Hoke would coach at that school and under the a.d. who fucked us out of the other half of the NC. Hoke you were a coach then and know your shaking hands with the devil. Come on Brady!!! Your a good dude, get away from the evil that is know back at Tennesee. Fulmer is flat out a piece of SHIT. Fuck you Fulmer, choke on it you fuckin puke.

There are still a few coaches out there with SEC experience who haven't said no yet:

  1. Bret Bielema
  2. Hugh Freeze (he may have a 'show cause' but if this isn't 'cause' I don't know what is)
  3. Jim McElwain
  4. Butch Jones
  5. Phil Fulmer

Although somewhat "self-appointed" I feel, he just signed a 2 year contract. As far as the HC vacancy, I have an old broom in my storage closet. If they don't find someone soon, he would still be a slight upgrade over Butch Jones. I'll throw in the dust pan and mop bucket as offensive and defensive coordinators.

If I were Hoke, I wouldn't be saying a damn thing to any players or recruits, other than 'hold tight, and lets see how this plays out'.  There is so much backstabbing, lieing, infighting going on, he needs to get the hell out and let those asshats figure it out themselves.  He's in a no-win position - he's there, so is part of it; the players & croots are looking to him for advice and stability; the fans expect croots to stay (and keep commiiting); and he has zero power to say or do anything to affect the outcome.  If he stays, he'll be seen as dead man walking there only to bridge the new staff.

Leave now, Brady.  You may have botched the hell out of the Michigan job, but you're still a better person than that UTenn shitshow deserves...  (And a better DL coach than they deserve, too!)

I feel bad for the players at UTenn, they are just plain screwed...

If people don't like the spelling police, then they need to learn how to fucking spell. I don't know how many times daily on here I see people not know the difference between lead and led. If you want to tout the prestige of the institution when talking about why recruits should pick Michigan (as many on here do), then it's not a stretch to ask for some basic elementary-level spelling ability.

more commits during this period. Hoke's job is to keep in touch with commits and recruits. Keep selling the school and facilities. Answer their questions the best he can.

Tennessee's coaching search has an uncommon amount of drama, but so did our last one with lots of crazy rumors. Mike DeBord had to hold our recruiting class together until the end of the year. Tennessee will name a new coach much sooner than that. They had better.

I think Tee Martin would take job if all else fails.  He is without head coaching experience, but he has been the OC at USC and bleeds orange.  He may even turn out to be a good coach if given the shot.

I have not yet heard the update on Mike Leach other than that the several hour meeting went "very well".  Did he say No yesterday as well?

it coming down yesterday was his attempt to sign Leach. I just can't see that happening now.

Maybe Fulmer takes another run at candidates that turned Currie down. The situation is more stable, which was undoubtably an issue for some. On the other hand, that's relative. It's still a mess compared to the schools they would be leaving.

Clemson football team has a peculiar Tee Martin connection. WR Tee Higgins is from Tennessee and named Tee after Martin for his play at UT as a QB. WR Amari Rodgers is Martin's biological child but obviously doesn't have his name. Imagine that introduction. Amari: Why are you named Tee? Tee: Born in Tennessee and named after Tee Martin because he was a great player then. Why? Amari: Because he is my dad. Tee: Why are you not named Tee or Martin?

If you don't have the right candidate, you don't make a hire. Wait a year and get it right, because another losing season is better than paying the wrong guy millions and starting over again in a few years. With that said, it would be way more likely that Fulmer appoints himself than Hoke. In fact, that's about the only thing that would make sense at this point.
