Pete Nance To NW
From the sounds of it, this is a pretty big upset. All the insider types were saying Nance to Michigan was pretty much a done deal. I wonder what swayed him to the purple side.
would suggest he didn't want to deal with a Johns-Livers-Matthews log jam at the wing/PF spot.
He was on a NW visit so that was the timing
that tied us to the Mo Bamba/Greer Love booster/impermissible benefits possible situation that were all started when Harbaugh came here that indicated that Beilein is dirty, and it scared him off because the RCMB posters tied it up all so clearly and concisely.
Can someone please upvote this guy like 6 times for me.....I'm mobile.
With his 6 accounts
see Donlon, Billy.
Edit. Wmugoblue beat me by a great margin.
that too.
we need to recruit a kid named Long so we can have the Long-Johns-Livers lineup. throw in a little Currie in 2019 and we've got a championship recipe.
might just be the most underrated comedic actor. I have never seen him play a non-serious role that didn't make me laugh.
Perhaps a certain assistant coach that went to Northwestern.
Yep. Forgot about Donlon. C'est la vie. On to the next one!
Everyone is smiling but Donlon, who looks rather unhappy.
Don't ask me to try and embed it,
embed the photo?
Maybe the recent commit of Johns? That's the only significant development recently; unless the Donlon move to NW influenced his decision?

At it again...
For all you Sparty lurkers, this is called sarcasm. Not every recruit we miss on is due to $$$.
C'mon mang... It ruins the joke when you turn right around and explain it.
Darren Rovell slyly dropping some of that Twitter money.
This is the only acceptable response
that and the fact Beilein gave him a non-commitable offer.
I should have qualified further: This is the only acceptable laughter-inducing response.
We all know the possible reasons why Nance committed to NW:
1. Johns signing + mutual interest in other forwards
2. Donlon hiring
3. Perhaps non-committable UM offer
4. Collins buzz
5. NW infrastructure upgrades*
The thought of a NW bagman doling out cash to 3 star recruits is hilarious, especially since the bagman bogeyman is the knee jerk response of so many posters around here whenever we lose a recruit.
*Perhaps sarcastic
Non-commitable offer...are we really going full M-Live on this one? That's what we're doing? M-Live?
Fine, I didn't want him...he was overrated and a backup plan.
Not sad. Good luck to the kid.
I'm with you. When I saw this post, I was actually relieved. If he had his Dad's and brother's athleticism, I would feel differently...but he doesn't.
UMbig11's first miss! I honestly never thought I'd see the day...
Isaiah Wilson. We were all wrong about him. Even "expert" analysts.
Oh well, on to the next.
this was absolutely a done deal. Circumstances changed with the visit and Donlon.
But I don't think an assistant coach leaving should sway your plans, especially if they are that solid.
It is about the program, the campus, the opportunity, the overall experience at Michigan. Not Billy Donlon.
Which leads me to believe that the whole idea that he was an M lock was far from true.
Says you may be right.
"Which leads me to believe that the whole idea that he was an M lock was far from true."
If they are a lock and they commit, they were a lock. If they are a lock and they don't commit, they only seemed to be a lock. If they were a lock, commit, then decommit for their own reasons, it's a broken lock. If another team steals them, it's a picked lock. If more than one of these happens, it's a combination lock.
Somebody get this man a "post of the day" award!

Forgot one-If they commit to the Spartans, they are red locked
To upvote. Post of the month, If not more. Well done, sir!
You sir win the internets this day.
So Donlon was sort of the WD-40?
If they're an English philosopher advocating individual rights and liberties, they're a John Locke.
Well, in this case it wasnt just an assistant coach leaving, but an AC leaving and going to the other school in his top-2. If he really liked Donlon, and it was close between the two, its not hard to think that Donlon switching allegiances could have a little sway for the kid.
MIght have been much simpler than that. Could be N'W pressed him and told him they had another forward they liked that they were going to offer in the near future and that kid was a likely commit once offered. Or maybe he didn't want to compete with Johns + one of Iggy or Jerome Hunter or Tyson. Saw a clearer path to playing time sooner at N'W, which is also true.
coach and head coach. Donlon was obviously the primary recruiter and he liked Donlon.
Recruiting is mainly about relationship.
If he and his dad were introduced to DD and it was a done deal at Team Camp, the Donlon news shouldn't have affected him much (he was already at least rumored to be gone by that point). I'm surprised a NW visit could change so much for Nance. I'm assuming Hunter Tyson is a take now?
but he may take his recruitment out to late Summer. I do think he's a commit watch type prospect if offered though.
Gotcha. Thanks, Matt. How likely is it that Beilein and Co. are able to land Hunter, Iggy, or Locke? Getting two of those three plus Tyson or another wing would be one heck of a 5 man class.
Isaiah Wilson. We were all wrong about him. Even "expert" analysts.
Oh well, on to the next.
So does this mean that FauxMo was right, and UMBig11 is a farce?
Absolutely!
Surprised, but not shocked. He even cancelled his visit this weekend. It happens. I'll own it.
