OT - Reddit CFB Risk Update 5/26 - Columbus Rebound

Submitted by ReegsShannon on

Another solid night. We maintained our ground and expanded out a little bit, taking some territories that OSU values highly (OSU and Cincy). We are slowly pushing OSU out of Ohio and soon we should be able to consolidate to take both of Michigan and Ohio.

Unfortunately our allies aren't doing as well, so we're gonna have to be patient until they work themselves into a better position.

Announcements:

The "Blue Alliance" has been re-dubbed the "Allied Forces" and now consists of Michigan, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida, and Texas.  If you aren't using the website to get orders, then please refrain from attacking any territories controlled by our allies.

If you are a relatively new reddit user, please check the game page to ensure that you are not being flagged as a bot. If you are flagged you will see a text box like the one below. If you are flagged as a bot, your turns will not assist our chances to win (although you can still accumulate turns so you can level up stars). If you see this box, then follow the hyperlink to fill out the survey, but ALSO message /u/bakonydraco directly on reddit to get the issue sorted out.

Instructions to Join:

To join all you need to do is go to reddit.com/r/cfb and create an account if you don't already have one. Next, set your flair to Michigan. You can do this by clicking "Select Flair" on the right side of the cfb subreddit. Finally, you can join and play the game at https://vote.redditcfb.com/cfbrisk.php

If you want to discuss the game in deeper detail and strategize with us, you can join our discord server found here: https://discord.gg/TcZBTcj. We usually announce plans of what we want to attack/defend in the evenings, but we discuss strategy all day. Be warned though, there will be a vetting process to join the discord as we have had some mole issues from OSU. Even if you don’t pass the vetting process, we can still provide less-secret instructions in the general chat so that you can still help us towards our goals until we can fully 100% trust you.

Go Blue!

Instructions as to how to play:

At the beginning of the game. Every team was assigned one single territory, and so every territory is now named after that team. When you go to select an action in the game, you'll see option such as:

"Defend Buffalo", "Attack Penn State", "Attack Kent State".

This means that we border the location that was originally assigned to Penn State and Kent State. If you choose to attack Penn State, you will attempt to take that piece of land next round. Defend Buffalo, means that we currently own Buffalo's original homeland, and defending Buffalo means putting your stars towards keeping Buffalo from being taken.

After you submit what you're doing for the day, just sit back at wait! At Midnight EST all of the picks from all of the teams go in, and a random number generator selects a winner for each territory. Then it all happens again tomorrow.

I think you are right. My opinion is that red is focusing their forces south in an attempt to knock out Florida. From there it is easier pickings to take out our other allies. Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing some of our team start pushing out west to get the red alliance to start to have to spread their forces out.

Great to see we're making progress!

How is South Carolina still alive? They've had 1-3 territories for how many days now? Can only imagine how hard it is going to be to take out a larger fanbase.

Yeah that’s the hard part about this game. I like regular Risk, the armies/players on a losing battle aren’t destroyed. Which means that the fewer territories a team has, the more likely they are to be fiercely defended. The only cure for that is hoping that a team has a major drop in morale/interest to the point that the members stop playing the rounds.

Our allies are really getting pushed around the last few turns. The red alliance seems to be in a strong position at the moment. It seems like chaos is causing Florida more problems than anyone else. Is Virginia Tech aligned with anyone? Are they biding time until they get close to some red team people?

Can you post the scoreboard along with the maps?

Also, what are the other alliances? Who is in the red alliance?

Nebraska got filleted.

Instead of building into a crescendo of fierce battles. There have been 15 teams alive for the past two weeks with nothing more than an exchange of territories. I’d like to see a change in dynamics to the game to add some real progression. Then again at least the game will still be going by the time I get to 500 karma and a 3rd star.

but it seems to me you need to build a doomsday machine.  or better yet, do the kobiashi-maru manuver of star trek lore.

just win, baby.  and sometime before the lions win the super bowl.

I have been following along and I do love risk.  I just haven't had the time.  I finally succumbed and signed up.  I followed my assignment.  Hopefully I can help.
