It's true.

Every fall, Lions fans revive the same false hopes and unrealizable fantasies as we have for generations.

And every so often, a couple of times in a generation or so, the Lions even get to the playoffs where they inevitably lose in the first round.

The Lions have never pounded the rock. It is Lions fans who, like Sisyphus, push the rock endlessly up the mountain, only to see it roll back down, day after day, year after year.

Got to love that the first thing he did as HC is to tell the rest of the coaches he's worked with to hit the road.  (Except for Rathman, who he was probably told he couldn't fire)

Sounds like someone who will be able to build relationships, gain trust and have you ready to go to battle with him.

Then there is this interview.  Tommy Chong in his Ultimate Chong mode is still 100% clearer than him.  Good to see he's excited.

Hahahahaha... Santa Clara 49ers got their man!

So I went through his background on this guy and the results are embarrassingly weak.

He spent the last 8 seasons as the 9ers DL coach with a game as their interim coach in 2007. Before that he spent In 2006 as the head coach for the Rhein Fire. In 2004-05 he was the DC for the Berlin Thunder. From 1999-2003 he was the DL coach for the Scottish Claymores. In 1998 he was the DL coach for the England Monarchs.

If I was a 9ers fan I would be pissed. This hire is worth a boycott. If the 9ers win 5 games next season it will be a miracle. Jed York must have gone to the Dave Brandon School of Sports Management.

I'd say the 49er fans are taking this well.

Looks like York found the best guy to do his bidding.  Kinda like that guy Brandon and his handpicked coach.  And we know how well that went.

At first I thought Pitt had to be working from a script, but then it became clear during the Ross and Rachel bit that he was completely caught off guard. He was so uncomfortable and that was an absolutely epic troll for the ages by ZG.

is that players LOVE the guy. There was an entire NFL segment done a couple years ago about him and his road to being in the NFL. The entire segment was about how he slept in cars, ate nothing, etc just to take shit jobs he'd coach his ass off at. Once he "made it", the players that played for him both then and before talked about him like he was a deity. Now, we all know that's not always good (!) and it was more to his personality than style but I do recall him having success with whatever unit he's been around, IIRC. I always confuse him & Fangio in my head. Would have expected the hire to go the other way around. Best to him but he's not a bright guy outside of football and in football he's a big cheerleader "yelling at you with a fist of chew in his mouth to get ya pumped" guy. Better than clapping? We'll see. Couldn't care less about the 49ers.

Tomsula is exactly what the 49ers brass wants:  A yes man who will not say a thing to the media.  His management will dictate assistants, players, and strategy to him, and he will coach his butt off to reach 6-10.

Niners prioritize profit over wins.  They want the cheapest coaches and players to offset the debacle of a stadium they built.

Just happy that Jimbo is home where he belongs.  GO BLUE.

I still do not know why we are attacking the man who "pushed Harbaugh out of San Fran"? We probably would be talking about our third or fourth option as Michigan Head Coach if Harbaugh was not " pushed out".

less that we are attacking him and more that we are celebrating our unbelievable luck (and shaking our heads in disbelief) that the 49ers actually wanted to go with him over Harbaugh.

It's also further proof that owning an NFL team does not actually make you qualified to own an NFL team.

If the 49ers win one game next year, I will be shocked and consider the season a success. This can't be real life. Jim Harbaugh to this guy? W.T.F!

a stud, sure to be HOF coach like Harbaugh?

As I was watching that video, I had tears coming down my eyes from the uncontrollable laughter. This guy comes off like a complete moron and you could tell the guy interviewing him was annoyed with Tomsula and seemed pretty unimpressed by the hire, he probably wanted to smack him upside the head.

49ers will be hard pressed to be a .500 team next year despite the talent they have, York and Baalke must be 2 of the biggest idiots in sports management, trully pathetic and I feel badly for one of my best bros, he's a huge Niners fan.

But I'm so damn happy for us :))))))))

... this guy makes Marc Trestman look like Vince Lombardi.

I can't believe that they swapped out Harbaugh for him. One can only speculate what really went down between Harbaugh and the Baalke/York axis of evil.  I see the 49ers regressing.  Fast.

First rule of HC selection: you don't get rid of a good coach unless you have a better one locked down first.

The 49er nation has to be apoplectic over this.

Who's got it better than the 49ers?

EVERYBODY!!

I'm a Niner fan and I like Tomsula, it's even possible he's a good HC, but how do we know that? I'm a much bigger Michigan fan and I was glad Niners pushed Harbaugh out so Michigan could hire him, but I was confident we'd get a big name hire! Instead we push out a great coach, pass over Fangio who is a great DC to promote our DL coach? wtf?

And I was just getting used to winning again. See if they can beat the Raiders this year. At least Del Rio has coached. The Raiders, as a black hole of failed coaches , could not expect a home run and they did much better than the 9rs, who are only a good coach away from a great team. Haven't been to Levis stadium yet, but looks like there will be lots of good tickets available soon.
