Lane Kiffin is worth a follow on Twitter.

As UT keeps burning, ASU is closing in on hiring Herm Edwards (?), Oregon State hires Jonathan Smith (UW's OC) and Purdue keeps Brohm with a contract extension and pledge to upgrade football facilities. Jimbo Fisher seems to be done with FSU and is going to TAMU. Recruits have been decommitting and apparently FSU's kicker is a suspect in an investigation regarding the murder of a frat's pet turtle (?). Willie Taggart and Justin Fuente are on FSU's list to replace him.

If Taggart leaves, hello Talanoa Hufanga?

Oh and forgot about Arkansas, which apparently is conducting 2 coaching searches; 1 by the boosters and 1 by the interim AD. Can't tell me that won't end up being dysfunctional somehow. Luckily for them, UT is taking all the headlines lol.

Dave Doeren, NCSU's HC, is next on the list for UT.

What picture I could photo shop to highlight the crazy idea that Herm Edwards, of all people, is prepared to coach major college football. Oh...wait...Lovie Smith! Who wouldn't want to emulate that fine idea?

Seriously folks...can anyone name a single instance where a guy without any college football experience in the last...oh...25 years actually...you know...succeeds??

but that he seems like a better hire than Edwards in every possible way.

20 years removed from coaching CFB (OSU) vs 30 Years (SDSU)

much more experience in CFB including 9 years at Power 5 level vs zero

an active coach vs retired for 8 years

57 years old vs 63

coached the local NFL franchise rather than teams across the country

much better NFL record

Illinois was in much worse shape than ASU

Yeah, let's put this in perspective... Lovie Smith took the Chicago Bears to a Super Bowl and was bizarrely fired after going 10-6. He has coached at programs like Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Tennessee.

Herm Edwards is an NFL flameout who was 19 games under .500 for his career. The closest he has ever come to a major college program is playing his freshman year at Cal in 1974.

I like Herm Edwards quite a bit. As a consequence, I really hate this move, because I think it will be awful for him. Between this and keeping Graham's staff together and apparently ASU fans kinda wishing they hadn't fired Graham, it's one of the most inexplicable coaching hires I can remember.

Wasn't ASU rumored to be in on Sumlin? That's a guy who could be a great hire for them, and instead they're getting a guy who's been talking on tv for ten years.

I grew up in Phoenix after leaving Michigan as a kid, I don't live there currently, but all my family does. Everything I am hearing is the natives, they be restless. My old high school DB coach ran the recruiting department there the last few year. Not sure it this would mean doom for him.

While it's funny as hell, the idea of Lane Kiffin dumping on a program that he left in the lurch is disgusting.  Kiffin is a self-serving douche who deserved any amount of bad Karma he has received.  I'm not sure that Brohm leaving Purdue after a year is any better than what Kiffin did to Tennessee when he left for SC.  At least Brohm has gotten a promise to improve the visitor's lockerroom facilities - that was part of the deal, right?

...not a nice guy, failed as a HC at Raiders, failed as a HC at Tenneesse (which is partially why they are still in this coaching mess), and failed as a HC at USC. He is that guy that applies for jobs that he is not qualified for, but charms people during the interview and convinces then he is the man. By the time people realize what a colossal mistake they have made...he is on tonthe next one. Guy is a really good Coordinator, but he is a terrible HC.

UTenn is getting roasted!  I really don't see how the AD (John Currie) is going to survive this, so no coach in his right mind is going to take that job.

Poor damn Brady Hoke - always in the wrong spot!

Yea, agreed. I find it very hard to believe their AD survives this, but at least their fan base is rational with realistic expectations. I happen to think they're just slow playing Gruden. I know your poor Brady Hoke was a joke, but think of the confluence of events that had to line up perfectly for him to get hired. He was in the exact right place at the exact right time, there is almost no other set of circumstances that concludes with him being the head coach at UofM.

From what I'm reading, UT basically had Gruden locked up, terms agreed, booster money in place. But their biggest donor, Jimmy Haslam, has a hard-on for Schiano and convinced Currie to bring in Schiano through the back door, unbeknownst to the other boosters. That started the shitshow, and we all know the rest. Maybe Gruden is still out there, or maybe he's turned off by it all and won't sign now. The fans seem to want Tee Martin, but apparently Peyton Manning is pushing back against it. Their only realistic choice might end up being ol' pizzafarts himself, Brady Hoke.

I know what you mean, I don't think Gruden would coach again unless it's a much better situation, but my friend is pretty plugged in down there and that's the word. Rumors ain't worth shit and we'll probably never know the truth, but it's fun to talk about, especially when it's happening to a fan base as neurotic as that one.

On the contrary maybe we should quit acting like the game of football needs to be such a serious endeavor.  It's supposed to be fun.  Not rapey, pedo-ey, criminaly, etc. nor "harumphh, only serious questions and answers please" (read: bullshit and really having no substance).  He's a coach over a bunch of college kids.  He has fun.  Saban bickers and bitches in his own way, so does Harbaugh, so does Urban but we have our perception of being professional and it's actually quite silly...Kiffin does it differently, so what.

I basically agree here. I mean, his stuff is funny, but in a sophomore-in-high school way. That's not someone I would trust in a job that requires balance and maturity, and certainly not someone I would entrust to lead college students for four years. It's not just the jokes, it's the way he handles himself, the way he deals with responsibilities, all of it. At any rate no top 20 job is going to consider him as a HC, because he is showing them right now that he'll embarrass them and cause serious problems if they were to hire them. He's radioactive.

Based off his tweets, it sounds like he's cool with that. Obviously not a mind reader but I think he feels he's at the perfect spot. He's been through the pressure cooker of the NFL, (Al Davis and the Raiders no less), Tennessee post Fulmer and USC post Carroll. He's at a place where he can be a bit loose, make a brand, and win (conference) championships. And he gets to do it in Boca Raton.
