OT: Iowa Wave recreated in the snow

No football games?  No problem.

One of the pediatric nurses at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Marcia Knepp, RN, had a great idea to help our patients and families enjoy the snow, even though they may not be able to go outside.

Marcia is as assistant nurse manager on Level 9, the first level in the children’s hospital that overlooks Kinnick stadium. After several days of winter weather, the stadium had filled with snow.

“I thought it would be neat if someone could write a message in the snow to the kids,” she says. She shared the idea with Child Life manager Gwen Senio—whose son Tony happens to be the Kinnick field manager for UI Athletics. Tony loved the idea and gathered his crew, as well as the crew from the UI golf courses, and even lined up a survey company to help design the message.

On Feb. 15, it all came together. “We thought this was a great idea,” Tony says. “We loved being able to do this.”

when trying to figure out what FTK meant, "for the korn" popped in my head before "for the kids" did. I guess my brain doesnt work well on Fridays

Edit: I should't lie to myself, its an every day thing.

to be able to participate in the wave when my college team practiced at Kinnick the day before one of our overnight trips in Iowa. It was just us, but we could see the kids waving back and it was an incredibly cool moment.
