OT: Deshaun Watson gives first paycheck to 3 cafeteria ladies affected by Hurricane Harvey.

I honestly don't care if it's not OT season - with everything going on right now, we need something that everyone can agree is positive.

Class act and hats off to Watson.

and very uplifting.  Agree with the sentime its nice to focus on something so positive that everybody can agree on.  Deshaun Wastson seems like an awesome young man.

Is this donation a gift that would not be subject to Uncle Sam and Florida state income tax?

It's a great gesture by the young man. It just sucks if most of that money ends up in the hands of bureaucrats in Tallahassee or Washington DC.

They're in TX not FL. Doesn't matter as neither state has an income tax. They each received roughly $9K, which is less than the $14K max allowed before being taxed. Even if it were taxed the person giving the gift files.

As a Texans fan I'm very happy we traded up to get Watson. Looks like we finally have a QB and he's a helluva guy too.

Tax questions this context. I love it, we can all learn from one another. The cafeteria workers my elementary school wouldn't deserve the gifts. Friday pizza dough was flattened on their bare chests. Tater tots and hot dogs - don't ask where those were thawed. Worst was the guy who made the Monday donuts, seriously, you don't want to know how he punched out the donut holes.

I don't think it's rare at all to find decent and generous people, I think the stories just don't get told as often anymore. If you post this story people read it and get happy and move along to something quicker, but the juicy stories (e.g. Pitino) cause people to hang on longer and find additional stories to do more research.

people give all the time.  What makes this stand out is the amount.  I'd gladly give what I could to help someone as would a bunch of people.  What I couldn't do is hand them 9k or an entire paycheck.  That makes it special. Plus, he came from nothing and had a charity help him.  He's giving back in the way he was helped which also makes it very cool.
