OT: College Football video games coming back

Submitted by BeatOSU52 on

I know there's always been some talk on here about people missing the days of college football games which they stopped making since NCAA College football 2014.    It became official just a bit ago regarding that apparently changing.

-It won't be EA making it this time, but rather Gridiron Champions .

-It's set to release not until some time in 2020.

-Football game by having 126 fictional teams. However, gamers will have the option of customizing their teams in the game, allowing for the option to recreate official teams right down to the player names.

Operation Sports will have modded rosters/conferences/stadiums/everything within weeks of this game releasing to make it authentic. I am so excited, cannot wait for this.

I agree. Especially since we will be coming off of back to back National Championships. Sad for the guys who never got to have themselves in the game because they weren’t at Michigan when the game was out.....meaning players from 2014-19.

Life is so short. You don't like UM that is fine. You had a good laugh trolling, well done and I can understand some pleasure derived ( though such efforts are misguided). But why do you continue? Are you having a good time? If you are, proceed. I'm not here to judge because the shit i say here is stupid as well. But if this is a group to talk UM sports and you don't like UM and their sports, why be here? The last thing I want to do is visit an Ohio state sport site or a Harvard "we are smarter than you" forrem. I hope you read these words and perform some self reflection.

If my post is terrible, I welcome your critics.

Uniforms and helmets would be easy to customize, but I doubt stadiums would be as easy.  If they could develop a way to export graduating classes to Madden, they would be heroes to a lot of Dynasty/Franchise players like myself.

Ehhh.  I'm skeptical as to whether or not this is going to be any good.  In my experience, these types of ventures from less reputable companies rarely turn out good, or even end up happening at all.

Plus, I imagine it will be really hard to create an authentic-feeling CFB experience with whatever customization tools are available.

creating my own team and placing it in a conference and then winning it all with them.  I would expect with 2-3 years of development they will be able to come up with a decent game to play.  I miss the old NCAA games, so will probably at least give this one a try when it comes out.

Excited about the prospect, but EA is a huge company, and had the added benefit of developing Madden alongside and they still had issues that were annoyances to players. I would like to see more games by this company and what they look like before buying this one. I don't care so much about the generic teams, because there are downloads for that, but the game play, graphics, will there be online play/dynasties, unique playbooks, coaches, recruiting (which I think was a lot of the fun in previous years). EA put out a good game every year, and they are talking about releasing a game in 2 years.  Not saying I'm against it, and if it's $40 or so, I'll probably buy it, but my expectations aren't super high.

My bigger issue is gameplay. I used to play Bill Walsh college football on the SNES and it didn't have a single license for teams, but it was fun. I fear this will be just be a crap game because getting stuff like realistic physics and AI is incredibly hard for monster developers like EA. This little rinky-dink company is going to have an even harder time.

The NCAA football games were my absolute favorite growing up, had every one from 2003 with Carson Palmer on the cover up 2014 with denard. I’ve been waiting years for a game like this to come out, even if the graphics and gameplay aren’t that great there’s no way I can convince myself not to buy it.

I've read up a little on this and it sounds like the only thing that makes it a college football game is that it will have recruiting gameplay.

Color me unimpressed.

not sure what else they can do.  At least they are giving it a run, there is obviously a market for it.  I think they could do it in a way so as to not make it too complicated for players to customize the rosters and teams to basically replicate Division One.  My guess is the game will come without designated conferences for the teams and that players will be able to create the conferences themselves as well in anticipation of further re-allignment.

I think this is a good idea, even if just one year of the game is made.  The biggest issue with EA Sports discontinuing it when they is the fact that it came one before the Playoff started and it not having that feature kind of ruins it for Dynasty Mode.  This would solve that problem.  If players are willing to do some up front work to customize the game just once they will be golden because after a couple "years" on the game all the players are newly recruited players anyway.

I think this will probably do well if the gameplay itself is solid.

Ea spent millions and a lot of time on here motion capture engine. And not to mention a the tweaking it took to get it to run smooth. And there where still lots of annoying glitches. But I’ve been wrong before, so there’s that !

For the record, I will still buy it.  Probably.  The dearth of college football video games means that anything someone puts out will be devoured.

I just don't have a lot of faith that it'll be any good.

I never understood why EA couldn't keep the series going in the first place. It seems like all they had to do was some minor changes to uniforms and stadiums etc.

That midnight release launch used to be almost better than Christmas.

Which was always kind of dumb to me, to be honest. The heart of NCAA Football was Dynasty mode. I wasn't buying the game to play as Denard Robinson for one or two years, I was buying it so I can play as Delonte Gamble, quarterback from South Haven, Michigan and 3 time Heisman Trophy winner from 2033 to 2035!

I don't want to disappoint anyone, but the fact they have no game footage and all of the images on the site look very pre-rendered makes this feel more like a Kickstarter ad than a viable game people will want to play.

I'd love to be wrong, but I'm not optimistic. It would be immensely better if the NCAA just got over it's hang ups regarding player likenesses and let them license the real players to EA.

Yeah, the games look decent, but I read a couple of reviews and the thru-line was "dodgy controls and poor gameplay", so I'm not optimistic.  Making a game look good is pretty easy with the right engine, but gameplay is so much harder, and that's my concern.
