OSU beats Purdue

So much for OSU being a product of their schedule this year... Hopefully Beilein lights a fire under the team's ass for Sunday for some sweet revenge.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:51 PM ^
We play Wisconsin.
Next Saturday though!
February 7th, 2018 at 10:52 PM ^
Good catch. Make that two weeks. Hopefully the team fixes its shit by then. OSU might be in the top 5 coming into Crisler.
February 7th, 2018 at 11:00 PM ^
I mean, revenge against Ohio State hoops would help. After we've digested all of today's news, clearly we've all picked the wrong week - month, even - to quit smoking, drinking, amphetamines....sniffing glue. A win against the Buckeyes would help to reverse that trend, to allow us to do all those things but because we're ecstatic about something.

It’s great how you interact with members of this blog while doing an awesome job of modding. Brian is lucky to have you.
Do you know why Brian, Seth and Ace rarely interact in the message board? Always been curious on how they never interact with die hard fans.
February 7th, 2018 at 11:32 PM ^
Seth used to
February 7th, 2018 at 11:57 PM ^
It is because Brian, Seth and Ace are all the same person?
February 8th, 2018 at 12:02 AM ^
but not the correct week.
It is on Sunday February 18.
February 8th, 2018 at 2:58 AM ^
Oh shit...thought we went Tuesday - Sunday this week, Wednesday - Saturday nest. Sunday makes much more sense

How long does a contract with the devil last? Seems like they've been going on a solid 15 years on theirs. Tonight it's a banked-in three, bizarre Purdue mishandling of a rebound, and a ridiculous tipped-in layup that got them the win.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:52 PM ^
Must be longer than Charlie Weis’s contract at ND.
February 8th, 2018 at 9:01 AM ^
You can't diminish what they've done. I figured OSU would be competing with Rutgers for the cellar. They hung around to take every punch PU gave them. Holtmann is legit. But it gives UM a chance for a real quality win in 2 weeks. We may need it
February 7th, 2018 at 10:49 PM ^
They’ll probably win the BIG with the 11th hardest schedule.
February 8th, 2018 at 12:36 AM ^
and MSU has the 14th most difficult conference schedule so it's not like OSU has an easier path than those two teams (although it'll be close after MSU and Purdue finally play each other this weekend). I can't believe OSU could be atop the conference after that game.
The best teams will usually have schedules on the easier side because they don't have to play themselves.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:38 AM ^
Thanks, I didn’t dig that far into it. Top 3 teams are all near the bottom of strength of schedule rankings.
February 8th, 2018 at 3:19 PM ^
if you're the top team you don't play yourself.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:51 PM ^
Good. Will be a nice RPI boost next weekend when we take them at home!
February 8th, 2018 at 12:39 AM ^
since we play both of those teams twice. The "bump" from OSU having a better record was exactly offset by Purdue now having a worse record.
February 8th, 2018 at 3:04 AM ^
Another good point. Stop calling me out!
...maybe subconsciously I meant Kenpom boost?! But yea, RPI IS record based so that makes sense so I wonder if I had more of an algorithm type ranking in my head that would be affected by tonight and have bearing on next weekend's outcome.
February 8th, 2018 at 2:52 PM ^
won't be a kenpom boost. There's an opponent adjustment there too such that it cancels out (makes our purdue outcomes look worse by exactly the same as it makes our OSU outcomes better).
The better our margin in the actual game against OSU, the better for our kenpom rank. But a game between two teams that we play the same number of times doesn't help or hurt us no matter what the outcome.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:51 PM ^
They got a really good one in Holtmann! They will be relevant as long as he is there.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:53 PM ^
This isn’t about Michigan..?
February 7th, 2018 at 10:53 PM ^
Dakich with an offensive rebound before masterbates-diop tips in the game winner. Haas missed a jumper after a full court inbound pass with 3 secs left.
Probably good for getting excited when we play The university of Ohio state.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:53 PM ^
Purdue doesn't miss against us, meanwhile the only guy who could make a shot tonight for them was C. Edwards. Not sure what we did to piss off the sports gods but we're really paying for it.
February 8th, 2018 at 12:32 AM ^
we haven't shot remotely as well as we did against Purdue against virtually anyone else--certainly not since then. So it goes both ways.
February 8th, 2018 at 12:40 AM ^
I would argue we were the luckier team in West Lafayette. In Ann Arbor....not so much.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:53 PM ^
Is it is unreal how much success they're having right now...football, basketball, wrestling, hockey all in the top ten. Christ.
February 7th, 2018 at 11:06 PM ^
why are people negging you? You guys sure like to run away from the truth..
February 8th, 2018 at 12:36 AM ^
"you guys" ? Who are these non-truth-tellers? Oh, I think I know--people who disagree with you.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:43 AM ^
but please point to anything in UMxWolverines post that isn't true.
February 8th, 2018 at 2:56 PM ^
maybe people are negging for breaking the no religion rules!
February 9th, 2018 at 10:52 PM ^
but i wasn't commenting on UMxWolverine's post whatsoever
February 7th, 2018 at 10:55 PM ^
they were motivated by today's recruiting coups
February 7th, 2018 at 10:55 PM ^
Stitt happens.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:57 PM ^
Things are finally looking up for that school. Lose their head coach?! No worry! They’ll just get a better one and probably win the Big Ten. Sounds about right.
February 8th, 2018 at 8:43 AM ^
Just amazing how they strike gold with their coaching hires.
February 8th, 2018 at 12:10 PM ^
They didn't have Dave Brandon to fuck things up
February 7th, 2018 at 10:57 PM ^
The most amazing part about this OSU team is the fact that Andrew freaking Dakich is getting key minutes and they're still winning. Looking like three straight years a Michigan grad transfer ends up on the Big Ten Champions.
February 8th, 2018 at 2:58 PM ^
our starting PG can't make FTs and we can't find a backup.
Raise your hand if you thought we'd be wishing we could trade Simmons back for Dakich in a heartbeat at this point in the year. Certainly not me. Ugh.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:57 PM ^
Weird, Purdue usually chokes much later in the season...
February 8th, 2018 at 7:40 AM ^
They’re practicing for the tournament.
February 7th, 2018 at 11:01 PM ^
Sucks
February 7th, 2018 at 11:03 PM ^
Hate to say it but I think we would have won at least 2 more games with Dakish on this team.
February 7th, 2018 at 11:07 PM ^
We should've won alot things
February 8th, 2018 at 3:09 AM ^
Dear God no. Dakich is asked to get (or help) the ball up the court, make a pass to start the offense and go hide in a corner because they have playmakers to facilitate their offense. Our pGs are asked to do much more than Andrew is capable of, for 40 minutes.
February 8th, 2018 at 3:12 PM ^
but he'd almost certainly be the backup if he had stayed.
I don't think he'd have won us any games that we've lost, but if he were shooting anywhere near the 48 percent from three that he's currently shooting, we would love to stick in in a corner and either occupy a defender or hit open threes for 5 min a game. He'd also be an upgrade over Brooks (who also can't make FTs) or Simmons (can't not turn it over) as a late game FT shooting option.
There is value to a guy that you can stick in the corner and occupy a defender because your play makers can then go 4 on 4. Fewer guys to help out. That combined with with his efficient 119 Ortg when he does use possessions, means he's probably helping their offense and almost certainly not hurting it.
