He only visited Michigan and Notre Dame during his senior season. He visited Michigan for the Ohio State game and was hosted by Grant Newsome, who he has drawn comparisons to (he is the higher rated prospect, but both are very cerebral kids).

I don't want a "second place trophy" either, but I think anyone that is just saying that we flat out have no chance with the kid is talking out of their ass. He's never even hinted at a favorite and nobody knows who he's going to pick.

Yes he took an official here (Frey was the lead recruiter at the time and Tampa is his specialty), yes he showed some interest, yes the staff is making him a priority. At no point has anybody outside of sam webb ever expressed that it was ever remotely close to likely that he would committ to Michigan. ND was considered the favorite until they lost their oline coach, now it is between florida, bama, and nd.  If there are 3 hats on the table I'd bet money we are less likely to be one of the hats than the team picked. If Michigan had a shot Webb would be talking about him, there's a reason he isn't, and its because we don't.

I'm happy to be wrong and will post on his hello page admitting I was wrong if he commits  but yeah its been the pessimistic voice on recruiting thats been wrong this year.  The national experts are right over 90% of the time, to just sit there and ignore that no national experts think Michigan is a top choice is to stick your head in the sand.

LOL, a few things...

1. Sam Webb isn't talking about anything right now...if you listen to his show you know that his grandmother had a heart attack this week and he's been with her in the hospital. None of his recruiting updates lately have been on anything specific, just general comments on future recruits and offers. He's not working very much.

2. Him not choosing Michigan won't prove that Michigan has no chance as of today. It will be convenient for you to claim that it does, but that would be wrong. The "national experts" all agree that nobody knows what he's going to do. I said myself that Alabama or Florida would be my bet, but the idea that "we don't" have a shot is ridiculous. He would not have hosted Jim in home this week if Michigan's chances were literally 0%. Michigan has a non-zero chance at the kid. Is it 1% or 5% or 20%? I'm not sure, but saying that we have no shot is dumber than saying we have a 90% shot given the information available. Michigan will be a hat on the table (I believe there will be 5). The truth is that nobody, not even Sam, has expressed any confidence in him going to any specific school. It's one of the quietest recruitments for a 5 star player ever.

3. His recruiter was walked over to Drevno well before Frey left and Jim has had a large role in his recruitment throughout. Garrett Rivas is a coach on his team and his head coach is a diehard Bears fan (from Jim's playing days) and has always loved Jim. Frey has not recruit NPF hard at FSU. You are implying a much bigger role for Frey in this recruitment than is reality.

Good point DrMantis. This is the one high level recruit that no insider has been able to get a good read on all year. Yeah there are a lot of cb's guessing elsewhere, but even those insiders are being honest that they really aren't sure on this one. I'm not saying Michigan for sure but I will not be entirely surprised if next Wednesday is a great day to be a Wolverine.

I volunteer to talk out of my arse.  He ain't coming here.  Why you may ask?  Because he is a kid with an excellent offer sheet.  After January, we only get kids that were really good at volleyball or quiditch and all of a sudden figured they could catch a ball and tackle.  Furthermore, they cannot have any offers outside of playing at Hope or Calvin.

If we get him it will be a huge surprise. Can surprises happen? Sure. But considering we have lost pretty much every competitive recruiting battle we have been in this year, not sure where the enthusiasm is coming from.

There is a reason why the MGoBlog staff hasn't had a recruitinng update since before the industrial revolution. There isn't anything to report.

That couldn’t be more wrong. No insiders have any idea where he will go, because he’s been incredibly quiet. He hardly does any interviews and when he does, it isn’t very telling.

Fact is, nobody has a clue which of his finalists this kid is picking. Most people are predicting Florida for no reason other than they’re the local school and were one of his first offers. There’s no telling what he’ll do.

Nobody is optimistic about their own chances. Nobody has a clue. Nobody is considered a serious contender over anyone else at this point. In fact, there have been slight rumors pointed out that he’s down to UM, ND, and OSU.

Well I guess that seals it. Wednesday we find out whether Harbaugh is a genius who will lead us to the national championship for ten consecutive seasons, or the most overrated coach in America.

Don't you have to build something for it to collapse? We have built a third place Big Ten team under Harbaugh. We were fourth place this year. And we have one of the biggest and highest paid staffs and we are going to end up with a recruiting class ranked somewhere around 20th. If people think Michigan should be better than that, that by no means is a hot take.

So sick of the "third place" bullshit.  We beat the "first place" team last year 49-10 and gave this year's first place team everything they could handle in spite of a season completely off the rails.

Yes, our recruiting class this year is oddly underwhelming from a starz standpoint.  But the previous two were both top ten.  Last year's was top five and the best Michigan class in the Scout/Rivals/247 era by a long shot.

We all were bummed out by this past season.  But to extrapolate doom is stupid and defeatist.

a Sparty troll or someone who spends too much self-worth on Sparty jabs.

Third place? Who cares. If we do not truly challenge for the top spots in CFB by winning the B1G, a distant second or narrow third is irrelevant. 8-5 this year was disappointing primarily because the team had no legitimate shot to play for championships.

Now the question is whether JH can consistently deliver 2016 seasons that enable championships with a little good luck or lack of bad luck.

On the decision of a couple 17 year old kids. I want this kid to want to play for M too...but shit. we had a season of REALLY bad QB play. The OL coach, the head coach, all the coaches want better than this year even more than you and I do. I really believe that. People can discuss, that's what this whole forum is for; but for grown ups to be so "boo hoo" about such micro stuff seems a bit crazy.
