MVP: The Michigan Fans

Submitted by M-Dog on

Hat's off to the Michigan fans in attendance.  They were awesome.

This did not turn out to be the "away game" that was anticipated.

When the team got a little min-run, they turned it on and drowned out the Kansas fans and the adopted Loloya fans.  Michigan really fed off of that in the last 7:00.

Not just a NY / DC / LA thing.  We're everywhere.

Monday night will not be an away game.

When one is down another steps up. Wagner did put the team, the university, the town, and fans around the world on his back tonight. Without Poole being stone cold and dropping that 3 he's back in his dorm tonight.

You are a living example of Hanlon's Razor tonight.

But there were also more Loyola fans than I expected. I really thought the designated Loyola seating section would be 40% Michigan, but it’s a solid maroon and yellow. A lot of them are still here, which is a little surprising. Still, I think there will be more tickets available for Monday than originally estimated. Also: Villanova showed up solidly too. So no matter who wins, interested Michigan fans can probably get a decent deal on Monday.

I mean, anyone other than a Michigan fan would be pulling for Loyola and yet the Michigan contingent, at least on TV, was much much louder. Was it the same in arena? Or was it just microphone staging for the tv audience?

A lot of the KU and Villanova fans didn’t show up until around halftime of the Michigan game. Some of them got pretty loud when Loyola went up 10, but mostly they seemed oddly disinterested. KU just came onto the court and they got a very loud cheer. Their fans definitely showed up in force. I still want KU Monday over Villanova though. Nova is scary good.

Right above Loyola section. When Michigan mounted its 27-8 closing. The stadium got loud. KU and Nova fans seemed more disinterested than anything else. The electricity was mounting from the 8 minute mark to the end. FYI (if my memory is correct we were down 49-42). Throat is sore but I’ll rest it up tomorrow for the big game on Monday..... ONE MORE GAME BOYS!

Who cares?  All of the Loyola fans are belong to us, and if Kansas wins, we'll have the Nova fans.  Hell if Nova wins, we'll take all the Kansas fans.  It will be a MIchigan crowd Monday night!!

And It was pretty great tonight, too!  I really thought the Loyola bandwagon would rule the day, but it wasn't even close!

It's wild that Loyola wasn't an overwhelming crowd given Cinderella and its seedy underbelly (rooting out of preference to play the lower seed).

I've been to a decent amount of neutral games around the country-- mostly basketball. Michigan fans are ALWAYS there in numbers. But, I have to agree that ever since the BTT (I was at the semi and final and it was bonkers), Staples on TV seemed to be crazy.... and the fans really did a great job supporting the maize and blue tonight, especially in the second half. Beilein has given us teams full of guys that are very easy to root for (and they win a lot).

Down 3, and Duncan with 6, we started screaming game over. The Jayhawks around us started cheering go blue. Crazy finish, will try to get my voice back by Monday. go Blue.

If you truly ever thought this would be an away game you don’t have a great understanding of fan base size and economics
