Michigan vs. Maryland baseball thread

Submitted by ThadMattasagoblin on

Michigan is playing Maryland today on BTN. I'm not sure why Michigan didn't play a doubleheader on friday given the conditions. Michigan is 7-0 and in first place in the big ten.

No they're not. It's still in a weather delay and I don't see that ending any time soon. Likely gonna be cancelled.

We just had bases loaded with one out & failed to score. :(

During the delay, BTN showed top 10 weather games in B1G history! Michigan was in 7 of the 10 games!

I attended two. The first game of the Hoke era vs WMU where the game was stopped and never restarted. And my first visit to East Lansing my sophomore year in 1973. We beat them 31-0 in a monsoon! I was 18, which was the drinking age then. Needless to say, we stayed the whole game & felt no pain!

Remember, koklaw?

1) your username---is it in honor of 10-year MLB player/former Detroit Tiger Harry Chiti, the first (and apparently only) major leaguer traded for himself?

http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2011/05/there-once-was-a-major-…

2) Did you formerly post on the WorldCrossing Detroit Tigers forum? I was a very active poster there myself until WorldCrossing (WX) shut down their free forums as they had become obsolete and constantly crashed.

Anyway, a custom on that forum community was established when Harry Chiti passed away in 2002, as few had ever heard of him---his career ended in the early 60s and he had only been a Detroit Tiger for barely over a year late in his career. From that point on, any time there was a death of a former Tigers player, no matter how unknown, it was noted that "(name of deceased) joins Harry Chiti".

Eventually, a single long-running permanent thread was created as the website's obituary page, where it grew to also include other MLB players, other athletes, and even celebrities from other walks of life.

(OOPS, double post. I guess that's 4 questions, not 2)

Twi-run double to the opposite field, now runner on 2nd with still just one down.

... BAD baserunning followed by a foul pop for the 3rd out ends our rally with a THUD.

after 5 bone-chilling innings.

Despite it being announcd around 2:45 today that it would be free admission for today's game, it looks like the crowd there might number under 100 fans.

Brrrrrr...

at baserunning.

For the 2nd time today, a Michigan baserunner overslid the bag after a stolen base. Both times the end result was being tagged out.

62. That's old enough! Class of 1976.

Best time ever to attend Michigan. Drinking age was 18 & $5 fine for pot during my whole 4 years! Tuition was $330 a semester my freshman year. Football & hoops were incredible! 38-0-2 in regular season against all teams except OSU . 0-3-1 vs Buckeyes. Hoops in national championship game my senior year. Many great concerts in AA for peanuts .Saw Allman Bros give 3 hours plus concert at Crisler for $4!!

Back in the 1970s, teams could make up games if they and their opponents could agree on a makeup date. It led to several shenanigans with teams scheduling and then cancelling makeup games depending on whether the games would potentially help them or hurt them in the standings. So to put a stop to that, the conference just made that standard rule.
