— Will Lockett!!!! (@willdoesit__) January 20, 2015

Harbaugh to Jim Mora and UCLA

Lockett is a 5-11/185 CB from Manvel, Texas.

Holds other offers from Oklahoma, Louisville and the sparties.

In other recruiting news, here is what 4-star 2016 LB Dontavius Jackson said about Michigan.

Michigan Finna be live with Harbaugh I can tell already !!

Also, Harbaugh and several other assistants are following 4 star QB Zach Gentry on twitter. Gentry is a 2015 QB and is currently committed to Texas.

We need an entire secondary to be rebuilt.  Check the link in my signature.

If Peppers leaves 1 year early for the pros your veteran returning DB players in 2 years are Reon Dawson and Brandon Watson.  That is all.

This class and the 2016 class needs to be loaded with DBs.  And DL.  Our entire DT group graduates after 2016 as well outside of Hurst and Mone. (and Pallante)

Anyone who does not make it into the 2015 class is going to be a RS FR or true SO at best on the D line or DBs in 2017.  The defense is going to be very very young.

I "debunked" this yesterday when you posted the same thing. We are scheduled to have 11 seniors (both true and fifth-year) just on defense in 2017. It is not going to be a young defense unless a bunch of those guys transfer and/or leave early for the NFL.

Link please. Would like to read it. (p.s. I am talking 2 deep, not just starters)

Here is the best case I could see for seniors (RS or otherwise) for the defense in experience in 2017

  • DE - Poggi
  • DT - Mone
  • DT - Hurst
  • DE - ?
  • LB - McCray
  • LB - ?
  • LB - ?
  • CB - Reon Dawson
  • CB - (I assume Peppers goes so no other)
  • S - none
  • S - none

We've seen little to nothing from McCray and Dawson on the actual D (special team for McCray I believe) so can we count on them - who knows.

Guys behind that group as upperclassmen would be Marshall as a DE, Pallante as a DT, 3 LBs,  Brandon Watson as CB and no safeties.

I didnt list LBs as an issue, listed the DL and entire secondary.  So would be curious what players I am missing that you have found.

At this moment Kinnel is the only safety who will be on the roster and he is a class of 2015 so an underclassmen in 2017 unless he plays this year.

I think we also have to realize this is a best case scenario I put out above - that says every single senior or RS senior is going to pan out for Michigan. They won't.  You have to account for 1 out of every 4/5 players (20-25%) either won't be Michigan quality as a starter, or 2 deep player.... and/or will be injured.  i.e. you need 4 safeties on the roster to get 3 playing time..  If you play nickelback with 3 corners you need 6 on the roster (3 starters, 2 subs as we did last year).  You need 4 DEs, you need 4 DTs on your roster.

Don't know if we will get any of these players, but feel just a twinge guilty since Mora had nothing but nice things to say about Harbaugh to UM when all the NFL types were doing their thing.

Glad to see the coaches are going after the best players they can.  Everyone recruits until NSD, and Harbaugh is the type of guy who is absolutely going to go after guys he wants regardless of their commitment status.

Also, this is how Harbaugh seems to be treating UCLA right now.

I wonder if the message here is something like "Hey, you can come play college football for a good NFL coach or play college football for a mediocre NFL coach". No complaints here though.

Ucla and Michigan have a lot of academic similarities as well. Maybe kids who choose ucla are more likely to be drawn to school aspects regarding Michigan too. Off the Cali schools, where I feel harbaugh has rubbed off the most, ucla seems easier to poach too than USC - in part due to rumors regarding mora and the nfl perhaps.
