I'm pretty sure the 2 alumni bars are McGreevy's and Tavern in the Square (the Porter Square location). I think McGreevy's is generally more popular

Yes, McGreevy's is the place. It gets pretty busy each Saturday, as I think it acts as a bar for a variety of different schools/teams.

I haven't been to either of those, Sweet Caroline's used to be a great bar for gameday but I don't think it's associated with Michigan anymore.

Sweet Carolines had planned renovations ocurring after the baseball season this year (October) and I would assume the switch was made to MacGreevy's before the season began so that there would be a consistent place to watch.

Right that makes sense. I honestly wish there were a few more Michigan bars up here. Even though I didn't go to Michigan there are a ton of alumni in the city.

That's where I'll be at.

I would not recommend that you head to Harvard Square tomorrow. It is Harvard-Yale weekend. The place will be completely overrun. Huge crowds for every restaurant and bar -- huge crowds just to walk on the sidewalk. And most of them will not care one bit about Michigan-Maryland.
However, ESPN Gameday will be there. If you want to be among gigantic crowds of people talking college football, then perhaps Cambridge is the place you should head.

While I agree with most of what you said, the game and Game day will in Allston across the river. I would imagine everything else will still be bad though. I think I took the T back from Boston to Harvard last time it was at the Stadium. I don't remember it being terrible, but it wasn't good either.

McGreevy's is the place to go this year. I have been going to Sweet Carolines and Tavern in the Square for the last four years (my two sons live in Boston and I live in NYC). McGreevy's is more quaint and pretty solid over all.

Not sure if you're staying in Harvard, but anyway, if you're trying to get to McGreevy's take the 1 bus from Harvard (it goes around the yard) and get off at Hynes. If you're going to Tavern, take the Redline towards Alewife for a stop to Porter. Harvard to Porter is walkable too.
